JUNIOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAM: STUDENT OVERVIEW The Office of Career Services (OCS) Junior Experiential Learning (JEL) program aims to help students improve their skills and secure an internship or other experiential learning opportunity during their junior year. The mission of this program is to increase the number of students who graduate with practical work experience, complete internships and receive employment upon graduation. Students will receive exclusive benefits to: Connect with an industry leader Develop knowledge and skills within their field Receive personalized career-relevant feedback Members of the JEL Program will be assigned to an Alumni Career Mentor (ACM) who shares similar career interests. Members will have the opportunity to develop a relationship with their assigned mentor. Through the student- mentor relationship, students will have the opportunity to work with an industry professional, to build their skills and to be on track to secure an internship. Each student’s assigned ACM will assist him or her with the following: Resume Reviews-review submitted resumes and provide constructive criticism Mock Interviews-review submitted video uploads and provide feedback Professional Etiquette- offer real-world examples of industry specific workplace etiquette Career Advice-provide advice, coaching and/or feedback on career goals Networking- offer tips to enhance networking skills and provide referrals where possible Students will attend a member orientation upon acceptance to this program. Orientation will allow students to meet their mentor and participate in career development activities. ELIGIBILITY 1. Current Sophomores who will be enrolled as Juniors in Fall 2016 2. Minimum current 2.5 GPA 3. Declared major and/or minor. REQUIREMENTS 1. Complete BisonCareerLink account profile. 2. Submitted Application 3. Attend two (2) scheduled career workshops each semester 4. Maintain communication with assigned mentor via phone, video chat or email at least three (3) times each semester.
