JEE ADVANCED 2018(20-May-2018) QUESTION PAPER DIFFICULTY LEVEL ANALYSIS OF PAPER 1&2 Kota H.O.: Career Point Ltd., CP Tower, IPIA, Road No.1, Kota (Raj.) Ph: 0744-3040000, www.careerpoint.ac.in The most prestigious entrance exam of engineering in India, JEE Advanced (Previously known as IIT- JEE) has been conducted on 20th May 2018 with paper 1 from 9am to 12pm and paper 2 from 2pm to 5pm across the nation. Each paper was carrying 18 questions with weightage of 60 marks from each subject i.e. physics, chemistry and Mathematics. Both the papers were compulsory. The exam was held in fully computer-based test mode. The performance of a candidate in this examination will form the base for admission to the Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programs (entry at the 10+2 level) in all the IITs.The exam was conducted by IIT Kanpur in online mode for the first time. Paper-1 It was having total 54 questions; 18 in each subject as follows 6 questions were of Multiple Correct Option type each having 4 marks for correct answer, partial marks +3 for four options are correct but only three options are chosen.+2 if three or more options are correct but only two options are chosen,+1 if two or more options are correct but only one option is chosen and it is a correct option,0 marks if none of the options was chosen, -2 for negative marking. 8 questions were of Numerical Response Type each having 3 marks for correct answer and no negative marking for wrong answer. 2 questions of paragraph type with 2 single choice question in each paragraph, each question have 3marks for correct answer and -1 for any wrong answer. It was clearly visible that, this paper had 33% multiple option correct type questions and because of this, it would be difficult to score marks in this paper. Some questions had -2 negative marking making it difficult to score .Although the difficulty level of the paper was average Paper-2 It was having total 54 questions; 18 in each subject as follows 6 questions were of Multiple Correct Option type each having 4 marks for correct answer, partial marks +3 for four options are correct but only three options are chosen.+2 if three or more options are correct but only two options are chosen,+1 if two or more options are correct but only one option is chosen and it is a correct option,0 marks if none of the options was chosen, -2 for negative marking. 8 questions were of Numerical Response Type each having 3 marks for correct answer and no negative marking for wrong answer. 4 questions were of match the column type with two columns with single correct option corresponding to correct matching, each question having 3 marks for correct answer and -1 for any wrong answer. This was definitely a lengthy and difficult paper with having 33% multiple choice multiple correct type questions.

OVER ALL SUBJECT WISE ANALYSIS Physics

Paper-1&2

Question Pattern was similar to last year question paper.

Some numeric responses are lengthy and calculation was little bit tough.

22 question from class XI and 12 question from class XII ,So weightage of class XI was quiet large in comparison to last year papers.

Weightage of mechanics was almost 33% Chemistry

Paper-1

Overall difficult and marking scheme also made it more difficult. Numeral Response Question have lengthy calculation.

Paper-2

It was Simpler comparative to 1st paper but difficult than previous years papers.

Overall chemistry paper was Difficult than last year. Physical and organic was difficult and Inorganic was average.

Paper contain multidisciplinary concept. Inorganic was mixed with physical Chemistry. In case of organic reaction are well known reactions but many reactions are mixed together. This year chemistry score will be less.

Mathematics

Paper-1

Paper 1 was comparatively easy paper from last few years. It covers 11th and 12th class topics equally. Very less calculation were involved.

Paper-2

Paper 2 was a difficult paper, as expected from JEE advanced paper setters.MCQ type questions were difficult compare to numerical value type questions. Majority of questions were asked from calculus and algebra. Paper 2 was mainly on 12th class Syllabus.

Overall Conclusions

This Year paper was difficult than the last year’s paper.

Chemistry was most difficult among three subjects. Maths was moderate and Physics was easier.

No. of above average and difficult questions were more as compared to last year.

In last year’s paper some mistakes were observed and because of that 14 marks were awarded to all the students. But this year the paper was free from any kind of error and there were no ambiguity in the paper.

Considering all these facts, Career Point team finds that, students would be facing difficulty in getting high score. The paper will be low scoring and hence students will get better rank at the same percentage score as compared to that of last year.
