Kope10usos Secretary of Florida Department of Transportation Tallahassee, FL 32399 Dear Secretary Kopelousos, I am writing you to express our grave concern with the proposed design of a section of the Cape Haze Pioneer Trail that runs along one of the holes of our golf course in Charlotte County and more specifically Placida, Florida. As we understand it, your department is overseeing the design, fmancing and construction of this "Trail" expansion. Although we recognize that the Trail expansion had been in planning since the golf course was developed, we never expected it would be designed directly along the golf course side of the easement. As a matter of the fact, the County had discussion and preferred to relocate the proposed trail expansion out to Route 771 /Gasparilla Road before getting to the golf course to avoid any safety issues. We are concerned for the safety of people who will utilize the section of the proposed path that runs along the 5 th hole of Coral Creek Club. In the current plans, the proposed path is designed to run in a rather straight configuration directly adjacent to the golf course side of Charlotte County's easement which is 50 feet wide. Additionally, we are concerned for the safety of people utilizing this section of the path as there is not fencing or protective landscaping included in the design along this golfhole. In discussions with the engineers from Faller, Davis & Associates who was hired by your department we were told that the "safety" of those utilizing the path was not a design criteria. Additionally, we were told that an alternative location of the path on the other side of the easement away from the golf course was not evaluated. In discussions with Chris Piazza, who is the project manager for your department, he told me that relocating the path to the other side of the easement would require wetland mitigation. It is my understanding there was not specific design work done to evaluate the extent of the wetland encroachment or alternative designs. We are asking you and your department to alter the design of the proposed path along the 500 to 600 yard stretch that is adjacent to this golf hole and see if the path can be designed on the other side of the easement or if not feasible, meander back and forth from one side of the easement to the other away from the areas of potential golf ball intrusion. We further ask you to add fencing and protective landscaping within the easement along the path to protect those who will utilize this path. Thank you for your consideration and I can be reached by email at or on my cell phone at . Dear Secretary Kopelousos,

I am writing you to express our grave concern with the proposed design of a section of the Cape Haze Pioneer Trail that runs along one of the holes of our golf course in Charlotte County and more specifically Placida, Florida.

We are concerned for the safety of people who will utilize the section of the proposed path that runs along the 5th hole of Coral Creek Club. In the current plans, the proposed path is designed to run in a rather straight configuration directly adjacent to the golf course side of Charlotte County's easement which is 50 feet wide.
