MAYA MODELING

We Wanted tu build the volumes of the concept very quickly in order to have an idea of the 3D look of the car and to create new visuals.Polygonal modeling was the solution for this kind of demand.

MINI BUSINESSMAN.Development Phase

EXTERIOR MODELINGI decided to continue the modeling on maya for the development of the car. My goal was to obtain the same quality of modeling than in alias or other surface modeling software. This choice allowed us to have exibility in the research of the volumes and proportions. I worked with the designer in parallel to get a feedback and give real answers with the modeling.

MINI BUSINESSMAN.Development Phase

In the same time, Maxence Texier, the digital designer whom i had to manage was working on the interior design. To easily merge our two models, i early created a bathub and characters in order to get a perfect t during the merge.

To give more value to the digital work, I decided to make a realtime presentation of the car which allow people to evaluate the car in every angles like door opening animation for example. This is a good solution for discussing the design and to focus on specic parts of the concept.

TOYOTA KAMEO.SKETCH MODELING PHASE

BRIEF

TINO Segui's SKETCHES

TETCHI's SKETCHESINSPIRATION BOARD I made for the designers.

During my internship at Toyota ED2, i had the opportunity to produce a personal project to show the process i used on the condential projects i worked on.I wanted to create a New URBAN toyota for the near future. I have been helped by the Design Team to create the rsts sketches. Then, i wanted to progress as much as possible to put myself in the shoes of a designer.

SketchesTo start the creativity phase, i asked two designers from toyota (Tino Segui and Tetsuya Nakagawa) to help me by making doodles around the theme i gave them with the moodboard.

MINI MODEL MAKING

STL FILE

As i did on condential projects, I was able to produce my own mini model for a concept with the 3D printer. I had to prepare a closed STL le on Maya.

YAMADA SKETCHES

THE POLY FLEXIBILITY

QUICK RESCALE

With the help and feedback from Yamada, one of the exterior designers, i made a radical modication of the concept to t on a real package. Maya is a tool allowing to move the proportions very quickly to make a completly new vision of the concept.

TOYOTA KAMEO.ALIAS SURFACING PHASE

ALIAS MODELINGI MODELED the FINAL VERSION of the car on alias with the maya mesh as sublayer ting on a yaris Package. My goal was to have the best Curvature quality to bring more realism.

In this step, I learnt the keys to respect to make a good car design.

This project was also for me the rst experience with Vred for real time visualisation and rendering.

Volumes analysis

This is an exercise done for the Alias Surfacing Course. We had to model a japanese car post 90's. I chose the Nissan Juke for its original and complex surfaces. It has also a funny shape that i wanted to explore. Having already made car models, this vehicle seemed like a good challenge for learning.

BRIEF

Page 29: Jean-Baptiste Epinat // Portfolio 2015

Surface ConstructionThe Modeling was done entirely on Alias from blueprints and photos. A detailed analysis of the vehicle was needed to recreate a true and fair light scattering on surfaces.

Page 30: Jean-Baptiste Epinat // Portfolio 2015

Throughout the project, I created the materials in Alias corresponding to those of the Nissan Juke to help visualizing volumes.

REndersThe Renders were made on Vred. Elements were quickly modeled in Maya to add an interior in order to give more realism to the nal image.

BRIEF

Design : Transportation Designers Of ISD And Serge Rusak

The goal of this funny exercise was to model a vehicule in 24 hours non-stop. Every student of my class was in competition to show how far we can go with the sketches we received. Previously, the team of the 4th year degree made some research around kinetic shapes. The result is a melt between designers and modelers skills.

Modeling StrategyBecause the modeling time was very short, The strategy was to create rst the main surfaces keeping the construction history. In this way, i was able to modify the shape in order to have a good result.

Maya Modeling

CREATION OF A ZEBRA SHADER TO ADJUST THE LIGHT DIFFUSION OF THE SURFACES.WIREFRAME CREATION BASED ON PHOTOS.

The objective for this personal project was to learn the use of The maya tool That I had to use In placement. I initially chose this car for its aesthetics, also because it perfectly BLENDs curved surfaces and technical details.

DETAILS

Technical parts like brakes were also modeled on maya.

I had to Think about some tips to make the high detailed REAR GRID trying to keep a good surface curvature.
