ComponentsJDLink™ system comprises the following hardwarecomponents:

• MTG Controller

- SIM Plug• Wiring Harness• Cellular Antenna• Satellite Module (optional) (select regions only)• Satellite Antenna (optional) (select regions only)

JDLink is a trademark of Deere & Company

Modular Telematics Gateway Theory ofOperationModular Telematics Gateway (MTG) is one of the maincomponents that enable John Deere Telematics solutions, including JDLink and ZXLink. MTG is a module thatcontains firmware, a cellular modem, and SIM device.MTG transfers data to and from the JDLink host serverover a cellular network.

JDLink and ZXLink require purchase of appropriatehardware and a JDLink activation. A JDLink subscriptionis required for cellular service. When MTG is powered onby machine for first the time, it registers with JDLink hostserver and receives the capability to report data such asUltimate.

MTG Communication

MTG sends and receives data and messages over cellularnetworks. MTG supports other Telematics solutions, such as Service ADVISOR™ Remote and John DeereRemote Display Access. Telematics solution applicationssuch as John Deere Remote Display Access require anuninterrupted cellular connection to function. JDLink andZXLink do not require an uninterrupted cellular connectionbecause the MTG can store data for up to 1000 hr. WhenMTG returns to an area of cellular coverage, the mostrecent 1000 hr. of data are forwarded to the host serverat its next scheduled time.

When powering down machine, MTG remains poweredfor the time needed for functions to complete. The MTGenters a sleep state for up to 7 days. During sleep state,

the MTG calls in during its scheduled times. When JDLinkand ZXLink curfews and geofence alerts are set, the MTGchecks for any changes in its environment. After the sleepstate, the MTG enters a hibernation state and is not ableto send or receive data. The only way to wake the MTGfrom the hibernation state is to "key on" ignition or powerthe machine.

Remote Service Capabilities

MTG supports remote service capabilities. JohnDeere Service ADVISOR Remote is a tool for a dealertechnician to service other machine controllers using theMTG. Operator accepts the download and installationprocedures. MTG controller receives firmware versionupdates remotely from John Deere that do not requireoperator or dealer intervention.

Website

MTG supports JDLink and ZXLink website. Data sent bythe MTG is made available to registered users using thepassword-secured JDLink and ZXLink website, throughe-mail or SMS text messaging. The dealer must log in totransfer machine to the new customer account.

View current and historical status of equipment on theJDLink and ZXLink website. JDLink and ZXLink collectinformation, such as location, machine hours, idle time, maintenance intervals, and other machine settings. Usethe website to send a request to MTG to view real-timestatus of a machine.

Satellite Module Theory of OperationIn select regions, an optional Satellite Module is offeredthat is a companion to the MTG. JDLink Satellite Modulehardware looks like the MTG hardware. The SatelliteModule contains a satellite modem. The satellite modemallows the MTG to transfer data to and from the JDLinkhost server over a satellite connection when a validcellular network is unavailable or unreliable.

Satellite service must be activated before Satellite Moduleis allowed to communicate over satellite network. AfterSatellite Module is installed with MTG and appropriatesatellite access purchased, machine can communicateover a satellite connection outside of cellular coverage.

Satellite Communication

The scheduled call frequency defaults to one call per dayover satellite. This frequency can be changed to one timeper week on the website.

As long as MTG has cellular coverage, the SatelliteModule is not used. If MTG moves into an area of weakor no cellular coverage, MTG cannot complete a callbecause MTG attempts a call using the last successfulmethod (cellular or satellite signal). JDLink and ZXLinkshow the machine missed a call. After 1 hr. of the failedcall, the MTG escalates the call over satellite usingSatellite Module. This 1 hr. delay for the Satellite Modulehappens when it moves out of cellular coverage after acall is made using cellular signal.

If MTG is set for a daily call in, completes a call, and movesout of cellular coverage with no red alerts or immediate

calls required, the next call attempt is in 24 hr. It can take25 hr. before message is received or sent to the machine.

Calls over the satellite signal are marked with a satelliteicon on the JDLink and ZXLink website. Machine musthave a clear view of the sky to connect to satellite network.

Alert Messages with Satellite

All Telematics messages have a routing class and prioritythat determine if they are sent immediately or with the nextcall attempt. There is special logic to determine whethermessages are sent using the MTG antenna or satelliteantenna if the initial cellular call failed.

• Red alerts are sent immediately.• Yellow and Informational alerts are at least 2 hr. oldbefore being sent with the next scheduled call or with awebsite initiated call or request to the machine.• Security alerts, such as geofence and curfew, dependon user-defined website settings.• Requests sent from website to machine are retrievedimmediately within about 5 minutes. If the request wasthe first communication with a machine after leaving anarea of cellular coverage, requests can take up to 1 hr.

Some limitations exist when using the Satellite Module.Applications that require an uninterrupted cellularconnection data stream are not supported. For example,Service ADVISOR Remote and John Deere RemoteDisplay Access are not supported due to the satelliteconnection limited capacity and latency.

Data CollectionThe JDLink / ZXLink product enables John Deere andJohn Deere dealers to access any data generated bythe use of, collected by, or stored in the JDLink / ZXLinkproduct or any device interfacing with the JDLink / ZXLinkproduct (“Machine Data”). Purchase of the JDLink /ZXLink product, either separately or as part of a machine, signifies the purchaser’s agreement that John Deereand John Deere dealers may collect, use and disclosethe Machine Data as outlined in John Deere’s Machine

Data Policy (www.JohnDeere.com/MachineDataPolicy).Purchasers may remove dealers’ or John Deere’s accessto Machine Data via the Deere Telematics website(JDLink.Deere.com). However, removal of John Deere’saccess to Machine Data will prevent the purchaserfrom viewing Machine Data and from using the ServiceADVISOR Remote service. Machine Data may betransferred out of the country where it is generated, including to the U.S.A.

Levels of ServiceThere are two different levels of service for JDLink /ZXLink: JDLink / ZXLink Select and JDLink / ZXLinkUltimate.

JDLink / ZXLink Select

JDLink / ZXLink Select is an all-makes, all-modelstelematics solution compatible with any 12- or 24-V powersource. JDLink / ZXLink Select is a basic package and iscapable of managing the following information:

• Road Map/Satellite Map Location/Driving Directions• Machine hours• Geofence and curfew alerts• Maintenance Management• Utilization Profile• Export/Scheduled E-mail report• Enables Service ADVISOR™ Remote

NOTE: Requires JDLink / ZXLink Ultimatecapable vehicle

JDLink / ZXLink Select allows a manager to track themachine hours and machine location through one simplelocation. Machine hours allow users to determine whentractors and vehicles are on or off. Users can select thedates they want to view when looking at machine hours.JDLink / ZXLink also offers the ability to view machinelocation using the Google Maps™ mapping service. Theuser receives updated vehicle location information inminutes by simply pressing a ping button.

The maintenance profile allows users to view whentheir machines are approaching, due, or overdue formaintenance. Users may elect to allow third-party accessto their local John Deere dealer, so maintenance can bescheduled right away.

Because it is not practical to drive a machine awayfrom the field every night, JDLink / ZXLink Select offersgeofence and curfew alerts. The geofence feature allowsthe user to set up a defined area. An alert can be set up tonotify the owner if a machine enters or exits that specificgeofence. The curfew-alerts feature allows users to setup a curfew alert for each machine. For example, if usersonly want a machine to operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.and that machine is started at 6:05 p.m., JDLink / ZXLinksends the owner an alert to let them know the machinehas been started. These alerts can be sent through e-mailor SMS text message, per the operator's preference.

JDLink / ZXLink Ultimate

JDLink / ZXLink Ultimate is an advanced fleetmanagement solution offering the user a wider range ofmanagement tools to benefit their operation. JDLink /ZXLink Ultimate contains all of the features of JDLink/ ZXLink Select. Much like JDLink / ZXLink Select, allinformation can be accessed on any Internet-connectedcomputer. Information from the machine's CAN bussystem is then accessed to provide these additional tools:

• Machine states• Advanced machine utilization• Fuel Utilization• Export/Scheduled E-mail report• Remote diagnostics via diagnostic trouble codes• System usage information (percent of AutoTrac™utilization)• Machine comparisonWith JDLink / ZXLink Ultimate, users can view themachine's utilization and readings, view machine settings, and generate customized reports right from their computerthrough the JDLink / ZXLink Web site. Managers caneasily see the productivity for all of their machines.Machine reports allow the user to set up an alerts report,on a time period set by the user. The user can choosewhether they want to see the report daily, weekly, monthly,or yearly. An example of machine utilization informationwould be a table with the amount of fuel consumed ofeach machine. Other examples would be average fuelrate, average ground speed, average engine speed, andaverage coolant temp.

JDLink / ZXLink Ultimate also allows users to be alertedwhen one of their machines issues a diagnostic troublecode. The code can be viewed through the Web site, soa manager can contact the dealership, letting them knowexactly which code has been thrown on the machine.Users can give a dealership access to their JDLink / ZXLinkaccount to view the maintenance profile of their machines. Also, users can set up their JDLink / ZXLink account tosend alerts to a dealership through E-mail or SMS text.

Vehicle Compatibility

While JDLink / ZXLink Select is compatible with anyvehicle that has a 12V or 24V power source, JDLink /ZXLink Ultimate is limited to certain machine models. Fora complete list, please contact your John Deere Dealer orvisit www.StellarSupport.com
