MEDIA INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 4, 2011 Career Center Visual Communications Student Awarded JCEA Scholarship JACKSON, Mich. – “My career goal is to become a print manager and oversee all aspects of production and design,” said Lynette DeGeorge, a Grass Lake senior in the Career Center’s Visual Communications program. DeGeorge is the 2011 recipient of the $500 JCEA Scholarship. DeGeorge will apply her scholarship award to the cost of attending Ferris State University, in the fall, where she will major in Print Technology and Digital Imaging. She has been enrolled at the Career Center for one school year and has enjoyed the hands-on learning setting. “The Career Center is really great; I am not one for traditional learning,” said DeGeorge. “I am actively learning real-world skills and doing something that I like!” After a Visual Communication class field trip to Ferris State University, the comfortable university atmosphere convinced DeGeorge that it was the place for her. She went home and applied online that night. A few weeks later she received a letter of acceptance. DeGeorge is currently enrolled in an introductory writing class at Jackson Community College (JCC). She will graduate from high school with four community college credits and an opportunity to receive nine free college credits, through an articulation agreement between the Career Center and Ferris instructors. Jackson Area Career Center has a variety of scholarships available for students who attend their classes.
