Mission and Philosophy
JCHS provides the opportunity for athletes of all levels to build a strong set of values including cooperation, commitment, sportsmanship, self-confidence, dedication, and discipline.

Education-Based Athletics Athletics are an extension of the classroom. Student athletes learn essential citizenship skills, how to commit to and help execute group goals as well as develop self-respect, bouncing back from mistakes and independent thinking skills. All athletic programs provide .5 credit to students who fulfill the requirements.
Our program expects our student athletes to: ● Be on time and equipped for practices and games● Develop strong time management skills for a healthy
high school experience ● Give full effort and take positive risks to improve
Athletic Participation FormsEvery year, student athletes must submit the following forms:
● Physical Evaluation Form● Concussion Awareness Form● Steroid Policy Form
Students will not be allowed to participate in practices or games until forms are submitted.
Practice InformationTeams practice Monday through Thursdayfrom 3:30pm until 5:30pm. Transportation between JCHS and practice locations is provided.
Start dates: Fall Sports: August 17, 2015 Winter Sports: November 2, 2015 Spring Sports: February 1, 2016
Varsity Girls Volleyball and Varsity Boys Basketball practice Sunday - Thursday from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Sunday times to be announced by coach.
Game Information Games are played after school twice weekly and on occasional Sundays.
JCHS Website Athletics Game Information
Transportation is provided to and from game sites. Families should expect student athletes to return to JCHS between 6:30-8:30pm.
Early Dismissal for ContestsDue to location of games, early dismissal from classes is necessary.
Student athletes are instructed as follows:● Email/speak to your teacher BEFORE missing class, make up any
missed work, and pick up any missed materials or arrange to take assessments at a different time mutually agreed upon by teacher and student athlete.
Early Release Policy JCHS reserves the right to revoke early release for academic reasons.
AttendanceAttendance is mandatory for all practices and games.
Missing practices or games without approved medical reasons or prior arrangements with the coach is prohibited.
Developing good time management skills is necessary for the success and well-being of athletes.
JCHS Extracurricular Attendance Policies
Academic Standards
All Student Athletes must meet all of CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) requirements:
● Student athletes must have a minimum 2.0 GPA in prior grading period
● Student athlete must be fully enrolled at JCHS
Uniforms● JCHS issues uniforms for all
student athletes● Student athletes will return
issued items clean and in good repair
● Uniforms will be due 1 week after the completion of the season
● Lost or stolen uniforms: families will be billed for the individual cost of replacing the item(s)
Transfer Students All transfer students who want to participate in athletics must complete all necessary paperwork.
Please contact the Director of Athletics to receive CCS Transfer paperwork. This process can take up to two months to complete.
Transfer students are: ● All 10th -12th grade students newly enrolled● All 9th grade students enrolled after the school year begins● All international students
Jewish Holidays and Athletics JCHS schedules games, practices, and other team events to ensure that athletic commitments will not conflict with Shabbat, or any other Jewish holidays that prohibit such activities.
Although practice schedules are set at the discretion of head coaches, practices will not be held on Fridays, Saturdays, or Jewish holidays during which athletic activities are prohibited.
If student athletes have any concerns with regard to their ability to balance athletic commitments with their religious observance, or if students must miss games or practices for religious reasons, those students should talk to their head coach at the beginning of the season to avoid any potential conflicts.
Families: Teaming with Your Child’s Coach Athlete, Parent, Coach Communication: Open communication is the foundation of the relationship between coaches, athletes and parents.
Most issues can be resolved when the athlete communicates directly with the coach.
Athlete-Parent-Coach Communication Guidelines
Concussion Awareness Warning Signs:● Loss of consciousness, feeling dazed ● Memory loss● Nausea or vomiting● Headaches● Blurred vision● Difficulty concentrating● Difficulty with coordination or balance● Feeling anxious or irritable ● Feeling overly tired
JCHS Concussion Procedures:
If the coach has any concerns regarding a potential head injury:
1. Athlete will stop participating in game or practice
2. Families will be contacted
3. Athlete will need to be evaluated by a physician to be cleared to participate.
SportsmanshipPursuing Victory with Honor: For student athletes, coaches, fans and families to take a defeat without complaint or a victory without gloating and treating opponents with fairness, courtesy and respect. JCHS encourages all of its players and fans to act accordingly.
