Do you have ISDN Services? Australian ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is drawing to a close. By June 30th 2018, Telstra will cease all sales of ISDN2, ISDN2 Enhanced, ISDN10/20/30, DDS Fastway, Megalink and Frame Relay products, as supporting technologies and platforms are nearing the end of life.

This change will affect all Australian wholesale and retail customers with an ISDN line.

The replacement for ISDN is Telstra SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). SIP is a Telstra managed IP telephony service with guaranteed call quality and the option of included local, STD and calls to Australian mobiles. In most instances, ISDN phone numbers can be migrated to SIP.

By 2022, Telstra will have exited all these products and services as they will no longer be able to provision and maintain the services to satisfactory levels.

So what does this mean? As of the 30th of June 2018, existing ISDN2, ISDN2 Enhanced, ISDN10/20/30, DDS Fastway, Megalink and Frame Relay Telstra customers will no longer be able to order additional ISDN channels, downgrade the number of channels, nor relocate existing ISDN services.

How will this affect you? If you are an existing or prospective customer, your service has not changed. You can continue to receive your service on your current terms and can continue to order new services up until the relevant “stop sell” date that applies to you. Telstra will communicate further information about the various milestones, including the Final Exit Date.

What is the replacement? The replacement for ISDN is Telstra SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). SIP is a Telstra managed IP telephony service with guaranteed call quality and the option of included local, STD and calls to Australian mobiles. In most instances, ISDN phone numbers can be migrated to SIP. The SIP service is cheaper and more efficient than ISDN, saving you and your business time and money.
