The first horse, was no more than twelve inches tall. It had four toes in the front, and three in the back. This horse was called a Hyracoherium. The first one toed horse was called a Plihppus. The first grazing horse was called a Merychippus.

The scientific name for a wild horse is Eqqus.

PHYSICAL FEATURES A horses field of vision is very large. For this reason, a

horse can see in front of it and behind it at the same time!!

HOOVES

Horse’s hooves, are called the “toenail”. This is because the horse’s foot has to be protected when it runs.

The toenail, is made out of the same thing as your nails, Keratin.

Horses use there sharp hooves to dig up water.

Horses’ thigh muscles are bunched near the top of the thigh. For this reason, a little movement, will be a lot of energy.

In the Winter, wild horses, have adapted to growing long manes to keep from freezing. When a storm comes, they turn their backs to it and tuck their tails in between their back legs to keep warm.

DIET

Since horses eat mainly grass, they have two sets of teeth. One front set, and one back set of teeth. They use the front set of teeth to rip off the grass, and the back set to chew. They also eat: fruit, leaves, buds, and if they have to, bark.

Appearance and Size – FAST FACTS!

Mongolian Horses weigh about 440-750 pounds! They stand about 48-56 inches tall. They have stocky bodies, large heads, and thick necks.They have upright manes and a dark line down the back with short slender legs.They have pale white markings on their muzzles and a white underbelly. They have long tales and are smaller than most domestic horses.

HABITAT-ROAMING THE PLANES

Wild horses live in the plains of Mongolia. A long time ago, Mongolian wild horses had to adapt to there life today from forest life. Single male wild horses, either live alone or with other single males.

HEALTH-GETTING CLEAN

In the wild, Przewalski’s wild horses roll in dirt and bite bugs out of each others coat.

CONSERVATION

Przewalski’s wild horses are extinct in the wild. The only

way to see one is in zoos. It’s because a lot of them were

hunted down.
