right people so that your child’s talent will not only be appriciated but also be groomed and sharpened for a brighter future

JAY-HO is an Organisation For the Youth - By The Youth. A step towards achieveing unity amongst all the

fellow Kutchi Jain irrespective of them being from any “GHAAM “any “BHAR” or any “FARIYO”. For us all

anyone who is Kutchi and who is Jain is our member.

Today’s kutchi jain youth is somehow not aware of what is happening around him in Kutchi Jain

Community the main reason not reading our KUTCHI KHABHR PATRIKA (KKP)

The reasosn for the same are

1.) Language : Since KKP is published in gujarati most English reading youth dont read it

2.) Content: Most of the youth feel the content in KKP is just too Samajok or Samstha related or Death

news which youth feel aloof from

3.) Appearence : the appearance of our KKP Is too dull and boring which does not create interest in youth

readers

Keeping all these points in our mind we have designed JAY-HO a youth magazine specially for Kutchi Jain

Youth with a lot of Information about Kutchi Jains along with different flavours for youth

Inside the Samsung Galaxy S III: Quad-core drives galaxial screen

The Samsung's Galaxy S III's vast 4.8-inch screen sits

atop a quad-core processor and Sony camera, among

other goodies exposed in detail via a chipworks

teardown.

Before we dive into the specs, let's be clear. For a

phone, it's big. Big enough to be brushing up against 5-

inch mini tablets.

"I'd say it does verge on being unnecessarily large, but

thankfully it isn't as ludicrously big as theSamsung

Galaxy Note with its 5.3-inch screen," said CNET"s

Jessica Dolcourt in her review of the phone.

And note this is the global version of the phone, not the LTE version that has yet to arrive in the U.S. The LTE-

based U.S. version could opt for a dual-core Qualcomm chip that integrates the LTE function. We'll have to wait

and see, though.

Nitty-gritty specs:

• Processor: Samsung Exynos 4412 quad-core A9 processor with 1GB DDR2 memory. The quad-core

Samsung chip was only announced in April. So, this is the first chance for Samsung to strut its quad-core

stuff. Owing to its 32-nanometer tech, the Exynos 4 Quad has "two times the processing capability over the

45-[nanometer] process based Exynos...Dual while consuming 20 percent less power," Samsung said in

April.

• Camera: the 8MP camera sensor is a Sony back-illuminated sensor (BSI) unit. Essentially the same camera

found in the iPhone 4S. "Folks can finally compare Apples to Androids when it comes to picture quality,"

said iFixit, which provided commentary to the chipworks teardown. And the other camera? At 1.9MP, it

"should vastly outperform the VGA unit on the iPhone 4S," according to iFixit.

• Battery: The 2100 mAh battery is big when compared with the iPhone 4S' 1420 mAh and Galaxy Nexus'

1750 mAh units. The battery incorporates the Near Field Communications (NFC) module used in "S Beam."

• Glass: One of the first phones to tap Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Corning says it is up to 20 percent thinner,

enabling slimmer devices and better touch responsiveness and brighter images but with the same "damage

resistance" as before.

• Display: iFixit makes a good point. At a resolution of 1280x720 the display packs almost as many pixels into

a 4.8-inch screen as some laptops have in a 13-inch screen.

• Other silicon highlights: Samsung NAND flash; Intel Wireless PMB9811X Gold Baseband processor;

Murata WiFi Module; Broadcom BCM47511 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver.

The five handiest smartphone apps ever

Technology advances so rapidly these days, it's easy to become jaded, to take for

granted the minor miracles we can now accomplish using our phones.

For example, yesterday I met my wife for lunch in an unfamiliar area of town. We

were both in the mood for Thai, so I pulled out my iPhone, fired up a certain app,

and in seconds found several nearby Thai joints. Ah, but which ones were good

and not so good? An abundance of user ratings answered that question.

How amazing is that? And it's just one example of how select apps can make life

not just easier, but also better. Below I've rounded up five that I consider both

essential and indispensable. Check my picks, then add your own to the list (in the

comments, of course). 1.Bump (Android | iOS) –Because I'm not a mover and shaker in the business world (or

even the outside

Page 6: Jay-Ho Sample Magazine

world), I rarely had the need to use Bump's cool contact information-swapping capabilities.

But last month, the app got an upgrade that makes it crazy-handy: you can now use Bump to quickly and

easily transfer photos to your PC.

How easily? Nothing-to-install-on-your-PC easily. You just fire up the app, choose the photos you want to

transfer, open up the Bu.mp Web site in your browser, and then "bump" your phone

on the space bar. Presto: done! What an insanely cool and useful time-saver.

2.Cozi (Android | iOS)

About a year ago I named Cozi one of the best apps you've never tried, and today I

consider it one of the best apps, period. Honestly, I don't know how my family ever

got along without it.

The app provides a shared calendar that's color-coded for each member of your

family. Thus, you can quickly see who's going where, and when. (This is especially

helpful for parents who need to know, say, what time soccer practice is being held

and who's supposed to pick up the kids.)

There's also a shared shopping list, to-do list, and journal. Put them all together and

you've got the ultimate family organizer -- one that works across

iDevices, Android devices, and PCs. It even supports outside calendars. Amazingly, Cozi is still free.

3.eWallet (Android | iOS)

It's no longer possible to go through life without a password manager. There's so much private data to

manage: bank accounts, e-mail passwords, frequent-flyer numbers, shopping site info, serial numbers - the

list goes on & on.

The wrong thing to do is stick all this data in a note or memo, where it's difficult to organize and easy for an

phone thief to find. The right thing: install a password manager, one that syncs with your PC so you can

access your passwords just as easily there as you can on the go.

eWallet may not be the absolute best password manager, but I've used it for years (dating back to when it

was a PalmPilot app!), and it has served me well. It's a bit pricey at $9.99 (not including $19.99 for the

Windows desktop companion), but the latest version includes built-in iCloud support, meaning it can

automatically back up your password database and share it with any other iDevices you own.

Even if you don't choose eWallet, start using a password manager immediately. You'll be at amazed at how

handy it is.

4.Pocket (Android | iOS)

Formerly known as Read It Later, Pocket clips Web content so you can, well, read it later. Though it's useful

in any number of scenarios, I find it best for compiling my own mobile magazine.

For example, I enjoy reading Entertainment Weekly's "Mad Men" recaps -- but not while I'm sitting at my

PC trying to work. As soon as I see that the latest recap has been posted, I simply click the Pocket

bookmarklet in my browser. Now I can access it anytime, anywhere via the Pocket app, where it's

beautifully formatted for mobile viewing.

Pocket is even smart enough to handle articles that continue across multiple pages, meaning you get the

entire story, not just the first section.

5.Yelp (Androi–d | iOS)

To quote Douglas Adams: "The History of every major Galactic Civilization tends to pass through three

distinct and recognizable phases, those of Survival, Inquiry and Sophistication, otherwise known as the

How, Why, and Where phases. For instance, the first phase is characterized by the question 'How can we

eat?' the second by the question 'Why do we eat?' and the third by the question 'Where shall we have

lunch?'"

Oh, how Adams would have loved Yelp. The app answers not only the question "Where shall we have

lunch?", but also "Is that restaurant any good?" and "How can I express my displeasure with the waitstaff?"

Yelp finds all manner of nearby businesses, provides user reviews of those businesses, and lets you check

in, Foursquare-style, so friends can keep tabs on your dining, shopping, and the like. But mostly it just helps

you separate the wheat from the chaff, and for that it's utterly indispensable. OK, those are my picks. Now

let's hear yours. What apps have proven so incredibly handy, they're now an integral part of your daily life?

Talk up your faves in the comments.

1.) Finger Math: 9X Rule

To multiply by 9,try this:

(1) Spread your two hands out and place them on a desk or table in front of you.

(2) To multiply by 3, fold down the 3rd finger from the left. To multiply by 4, it would be the 4th finger

and so on.

(3) the answer is 27 ... READ it from the two fingers on the left of the folded down finger and the 7

fingers on the right of it.

This works for anything up to 9x10!

Square a 2 Digit Number Ending in 5

For this example we will use 25

• Take the "tens" part of the number (the 2 and add 1)=3

• Multiply the original "tens" part of the number by the new number (2x3)

• Take the result (2x3=6) and put 25 behind it. Result the answer 625.

Try a few more 75 squared ... = 7x8=56 ... put 25 behind it is 5625.

55 squared = 5x6=30 ... put 25 behind it ... is 3025. Another easy one! Practice it on paper first!

2.) Square 2 Digit Number: UP-DOWN Method Square a 2 Digit Number, for this example 37:

• Look for the nearest 10 boundary

• In this case up 3 from 37 to 40.

• Since you went UP 3 to 40 go DOWN 3 from 37 to 34.

• Now mentally multiply 34x40

• The way I do it is 34x10=340;

• Double it mentally to 680

• Double it again mentally to 1360

• This 1360 is the FIRST interim answer.

• 37 is "3" away from the 10 boundary 40.

• Square this "3" distance from 10 boundary.

• 3x3=9 which is the SECOND interim answer.

• Add the two interim answers to get the final answer.

• Answer: 1360 + 9 = 1369

3.) Assorted Multiplication Rules

Multiply by 5: Multiply by 10 and divide by 2.

Multiply by 6: Sometimes multiplying by 3 and then 2 is easy.

Multiply by 9: Multiply by 10 and subtract the original number.

Multiply by 12: Multiply by 10 and add twice the original number.

Multiply by 13: Multiply by 3 and add 10 times original number.

Multiply by 14: Multiply by 7 and then multiply by 2

Multiply by 15: Multiply by 10 and add 5 times the original number, as above.

Multiply by 16: You can double four times, if you want to. Or you can multiply by 8 and then by 2.

Multiply by 17: Multiply by 7 and add 10 times original number.

Multiply by 18: Multiply by 20 and subtract twice the original number (which is obvious from the first step).

Multiply by 19: Multiply by 20 and subtract the original number.

Multiply by 24: Multiply by 8 and then multiply by 3.

Multiply by 27: Multiply by 30 and subtract 3 times the original number (which is obvious from the first

step).

Multiply by 45: Multiply by 50 and subtract 5 times the original number (which is obvious from the first

step).

Multiply by 90: Multiply by 9 (as above) and put a zero on the right. Multiply by 98: Multiply by 100 and

subtract twice the original number.

Multiply by 99: Multiply by 100 and subtract the original number.

MATHS MADE EASY

4.) Multiply Up to 20X20 In Your Head

In just FIVE minutes you should learn to quickly multiply up to 20x20 in your head. With this trick, you

will be able to multiply any two numbers from 11 to 19 in your head quickly, without the use of a

calculator.

I will assume that you know your multiplication table reasonably well up to 10x10.

Try this:

• Take 15 x 13 for an example.

• Always place the larger number of the two on top in your mind.

• Then draw the shape of Africa mentally so it covers the 15 and the 3 from the 13 below. Those

covered numbers are all you need.

• First add 15 + 3 = 18

• Add a zero behind it (multiply by 10) to get 180.

• Multiply the covered lower 3 x the single digit above it the "5" (3x5= 15)

• Add 180 + 15 = 195.

That is It! Wasn't that easy? Practice it on paper first!

5.) The 11 Rule

You likely all know the 10 rule (to multiply by 10, just add a 0 behind the number) but do you know the 11

rule? It is as easy! You should be able to do this one in you head for any two digit number. Practice it on

paper first!

To multiply any two digit number by 11:

• For this example we will use 54.

• Separate the two digits in you mind (5__4).

• Notice the hole between them!

• Add the 5 and the 4 together (5+4=9)

• Put the resulting 9 in the hole 594. That's it! 11 x 54=594

The only thing tricky to remember is that if the result of the addition is greater than 9, you only put the

"ones" digit in the hole and carry the "tens" digit from the addition. For example 11 x 57 ... 5__7 ... 5+7=12

... put the 2 in the hole and add the 1 from the 12 to the 5 in to get 6 for a result of 627 ... 11 x 57 = 627

Practice it on paper first!

The 11 Rule Expanded

You can directly write down the answer to any number multiplied by 11.

• Take for example the number 51236 X 11.

• First, write down the number with a zero in front of it.

051236 The zero is necessary so that the rules are simpler.

• Draw a line under the number.

• Bear with me on this one. It is simple if you work through it slowly. To do this, all you have to do this is "Add

the neighbor". Look at the 6 in the "units" position of the number. Since there is no number to the right of it,

you can't add to its "neighbor" so just write down 6 below the 6 in the units col.

• For the "tens" place, add the 3 to the its "neighbor" (the 6). Write the answer: 9 below the 3.

• For the "hundreds" place, add the 2 to the its "neighbor" (the 3). Write the answer: 5 below the 2.

• For the "thousands" place, add the 1 to the its "neighbor" (the 2). Write the answer: 3 below the 1.

• For the "ten-thousands" place, add the 5 to its "neighbor" (the 1). Write the answer: 6 below the 5.

• For the "hundred-thousands" place, add the 0 to the its "neighbor" (the 5). Write the answer: 5 below the 0.

That's it ... 11 X 051236 = 563596

Practice it on paper first!

7 Steps for Lung Cancer Protection

The National Lung Association has dubbed May “Breathe Easy Month.” As the month comes to a close, we

wanted to recognize this aspect of May with a review of some ways to improve your lung function through

healthful eating. While the National Institute of Cancer maintains that giving up smoking is the most

beneficial health action that smokers can take to lower their risk of lung cancer, the following dietary

recommendations may also offer protection against lung cancer — for smokers and nonsmokers alike.

1. Eat carotenoid-rich foods. - Carrots, green and red bell

peppers, sweet potatoes, winter squash, and leafy greens

contain DNA-friendly antioxidants that protect the lungs.

Beta carotene, a vitamin A precursor, has been the

carotenoid most associated with lung cancer protection.

Mangoes, apricots, cantaloupes, and peaches are

excellent fruit choices. Skip the pills and get beta

carotene from food sources instead. Results of a 1994

Finnish study showed an increased rate of lung cancer

among smokers given high doses of beta carotene

supplements. Other studies have shown that increased beta carotene from food decreased cancer rates.

Lycopene, another carotenoid, has also been found to protect against lung cancer. The antioxidant action

of lycopene also helps ward off prostate cancer. Tomatoes, tomato products, guava, watermelon, and pink

grapefruit are all good sources of lycopene.

2. Eat one serving of cruciferous vegetables daily. - Cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli, cabbage, kale,

watercress and Brussels sprouts) contain a phytochemical called isothiocynate. Isothiocynate blocks an

enzyme that activates cancer-causing agents in tobacco smoke. Get at least one serving of these helpful

veggies every day.

3. Find food sources of selenium. - A study indicated that dietary supplements of selenium (200 mcg) may

significantly lower the incidence of lung cancer. Since the possible benefit of selenium supplementation

needs to be assessed in a larger population study, eat heart-healthy food sources that are high in selenium.

These include Brazil nuts, whole grains, and tuna.

4. Eat foods high in vitamin E. - Vitamin-E rich foods include nuts (almonds, walnuts, & sunflower seeds),

avocados, mangoes, and wheat germ. Vitamin E (tocopherol), an antioxidant, main- tains lung cell integrity.

A Finnish study showed that a diet rich in Vitamin E lowered the risk of lung cancer among smokers by

20%.

5. Limit fat intake. - Limit your intake of fat, especially saturated fat found in red meat and high-fat dairy

foods. Studies show a direct correlation between lung cancer and intake of animal fats. Eat more fatty fish,

since these are high in omega-3 fatty acids (good fats) as opposed to saturated (bad) fat. Try salmon,

mackerel, or tuna. Beans as healthy high-protein alternatives.

6. Get enough vitamin C. - Oranges contain vitamin C and folic acid (a B-complex vitamin). Both nutrients

appear beneficial in protecting against lung cancer. Other high Vitamin C foods include kiwi, potatoes, and

red bell peppers. Asparagus, broccoli, and dried beans are good sources of folic acid.

7. Get fit! - Two recent studies show evidence that regular exercise may exert an “anti-cancer” effect. In

addition, one of the studies found that men who were fitter had a lower risk of dying of lung cancer. The

researchers suggest that fitness may protect the lungs against the ravages of tobacco smoke and that being

sedentary may be one of the factors contributing to lung cancer. The American Cancer Society

recommends 30 minutes of cumulative moderate physical activity on most days of the week.

The bottom line:

While research continues to determine diet’s role in lung cancer, the best advice for smokers who want to

reduce their risk of lung cancer is stop smoking. For nonsmokers who wish to ward off lung cancer, a low

fat diet with 5-9 servings daily of colorful fruits/vegetables and grains is a good bet.

Bhandardara – Feel The Splash Of Rains

Bhandardhara is a holiday resort village on the western coast of India.

The village is located in theAhmednagar district of the state

of Maharashtra, about 185 kilometers (115 mi) from Mumbai.

Bhandardara sits by the Pravara River, and is a blend of natural

beauty, waterfalls, mountains, tranquility, greenery, invigorating air

and pristine ambiance. The Bhandardara Lake and the Randha falls are

major tourist attractions.

A village near Bhandardara

Village Folks at Bhandardara

Bhandardara is full of attractions – from Wilson Dam to Arthur Lake. As legend has it, Shri Agasti Rishi

meditated here for a year, surviving only on water and air, pleased with this display of devotion, God came

down to Earth and blessed Shri Agasti Rishi with a stream of the Ganges river, which is now known as the

Pravara River.

From Bhandardara, you can climb up to see the Ratangad and Harishchandragad fort. Or, you can follow

the trails that lead to Ajoba and Ghanchakkar peaks. Also, if you are up for a challenge, the highest peak

inMaharashtra, Mount Kalsubai (1646 m), stands tall for you to conquer. The starting point of this

challenging trek is Bari Village, located 12 km away from Bhandardara. Atop, there is a small temple and

standing. Standing at the summit, you can have panoramic view of Sahyadris and Bhandardara.

Places of interest

Bhandardara is home to Mount Kalsubai, the highest peak

(5,400 ft/1,600 m) in Maharashtra.

Another tourist attraction is the Wilson Dam on the Pravara River,

which was built in 1910. The scenic Umbrella Falls also draw visitors,

although it can be seen only during the monsoons between July and

October. About 4 km away from Shendi Village is the Randhaa Waterfalls. The Ratangad fort is around

22 km from Shendi/ Bhandardara, and is connected by both roadway, and ferry across the Lake Arthur. On

the Kalsubai side, at the far end of a 22 km roadway across luscious forests, and tribal villages, is

Konkankada from where the views of the plains are breathtaking. Harishchandragad is another nearby

mountain hiking spot with ancient temples on top.

Bhandardara provides plenty of opportunity for small treks and hikes for adventure lovers. The most

interesting and exciting trek is the small trek to Ratangad fort; to reach Ratangad fort one should take the

boat over the small lake near the village Ratanwadi.

Ratanwadi is known for its scenic boat rides. Ratangad is an interesting fortress, situated at the edge of

ghats with numerous water cisterns and caves. It also commands an excellent view all around and is said to

be the favourite fort of the Maratha king Chatrapati Shivaji.

A popular resort is Anandvaan Resort, located 2800 feet above sea level. The resort boasts both hill and

lake views, where visitors reside in private cabins ranging in size and location.

Wilson Dam: Built in 1910 across River Pravara, Wilson Dam is situated at a height of 150 m above sea

level. It’s one of the oldest dams in the country. The opening of sluice gates creates two 60 to 80 feet

cascades of water that plummet to the rocks below. It’s a spectacular view. Tourists can amble in the

circular garden located at the base of the dam.

Umbrella falls under Wilson dam

Arthur Lake: The clear and placid lake is bounded by thick canopied forests of the Sahyadri hills. The Lake

gets its water from the Pravara River. The Lake and its surroundings offer an enchanting spectacle.

Page 13: Jay-Ho Sample Magazine

Randha Falls: Randha Falls is the third largest falls in India. The roaring River Pravara descends down from

a height of 170 ft into a beautiful gorge.

Ghatghar: Located 22 km from Bhandardara, Ghatghar is a popular

viewpoint in the area. It offers a panoramic view of the Sahyadri

ranges.

Mount kalsubai: from Bhandardara Tourist can see the highest peak of

the sahyadri range, mount kalsubai. Kalsubai with its height and view is

popular for trekking and so are the hills near kalsubai. The trek is

physically demanding, as Bhandardara is located on a hill and to reach

this place one has to do lots of trekking. Ratnagad : Ratnagad fort was

captured by chhatrapati Shivaji maharaj. The fort lies near the

Maharashtra tourism resort and has ample of grounds to interest trekkers. The fort commands a good view

of the surrounding areas.

Angling:

This is popular place for angling. Tourists can spot a number of large fish over here. Tourists can go angling,

but boats are not allowed.

Transportation Bhandardara is easily accessible by road also from Mumbai which

is around 185 km far and Pune which is around 191 km

far. Please be careful with the narrow roads while driving on the

ghats towards bhandardara.

The nearest airport is in Mumbai, while Igatpuri Railway Station,

45+ km away, has the nearest railhead. One can board a state

transport bus from Igatpuri to reach Bhandardara. Regular

buses are available from both the cities to reach Bhandardara, or

you can also hire a taxi to reach the destination.

BASIC ACCOUNTING TERMINOLOGY FOR ALL

Accounting Equation

The three components of a balance sheet can be stated in the form of following basic

accounting equation

Assets = Liabilities + Capital (owners equity)

eg: Rs.50,000=Rs. 10,000+Rs.40,000

This equation tells at a glance that the resources of this enterprise total Rs. 50,000 and

these assets are financed by two sources — Rs. 10,000 by the creditors(liabilities), also known as outsiders

claims, and Rs.40,000 by the owner (capital), also known as owner equity.

Business Transactions - It is an economic event that relates to a business entity. It can be a purchase of

goods, collection of money, payment to creditors for goods and expenses. An event to be a transaction

must possess the quality of economic substance, relate to business and affect the economic results. In

other words, an event must be capable of being measured in monetary terms and related to business

enterprise in terms of economic consequence.

Assets - These are economic resources of an enterprise that can be usefully expressed in monetary terms.

Assets are things of value used by the business in its operations. For example, Departmental Store owns a

fleet of trucks, which is used by it for delivering food stuff; the trucks, thus, provides economic benefits to

the enterprise. This item will be shown of the asset side of the balance sheet of Departmental Store. Assets

can be broadly classified into two types: Fixed Assets and Current Assets.

Fixed Assets are assets held on a long term basis, such as land, buildings, machinery,

plant, furniture and fixtures. These assets are used for doing business and not for re-sale

in normal course of operation.

Current Assets are assets held on a short term basis such as debtors (account receivable),

bills receivable (notes receivable), stock (inventory), temporary investment in securities, cash and bank

balances. Normally the short term refers to an accounting year.

Liabilities - These are the obligations or debts that the enterprise must pay in money or services at

sometime in the future. Therefore, represent creditors, claims against assets of the firms. Both small and

big businesses find it necessary to borrow money at some time or the other, and to purchase goods on

credit. For example, super bazaar, purchases goods for Rs. 10,000 on credit for a month from Fast Foods

Products Company on 25 December 2001. If the balance sheet of Departmental stores is prepared as at 31

December 2001, Fast Food Products Company will be shown as creditors (accounts payable) on the

liabilities side of the balance sheet. If the departmental store also takes a loan for a period of three years

from ABC Bank Ltd., this will be shown as a liability in the balance sheet of the Departmental Stores.

Capital - Investment by the owners for the use in the firm is known as capital. From the accounting

equation given earlier, it can easily be found that the capital is Rs.40,000. Owner’s equity is the ownership

claim on total assets. It is equal to total assets minus total external liabilities: E=A-L this is also called

residual interest. Owner's equity is equal to capital.

Sales - Sales are total revenues from goods sold and/or services sold or provided to customers. Sales may

be cash sales or credit sales.

Revenues - These are the amounts the business earns by selling it products or providing services to

customers. These are called 'sales revenues'. Other items and sources of revenues common to many

businesses are: sales, fees, commission, interest, dividends, royalties, rent received, etc.

Page 15: Jay-Ho Sample Magazine

Expenses - These are costs incurred by a business in the process of earning revenues. Generally, expenses

are measured by the cost of assets consumed or services used during an accounting period. The usual

items of expenses are: depreciation, rent, wages, salary, interest, costs of heat, light and

water, telephone, etc.

Expenditure - Expenditure is the amount of resources consumed. Usually, it is of long

term in nature. Therefore, its benefit is to be derived in future. For example: capital

expenditure.

Loss - Loss is the gross decreases in the assets or gross increases in the liabilities. It is the excess of

expenses over revenues. It represents reduction in owners' equity due to inability of the firm to recover

the assets used in the business. For example, a firm spends Rs. 70,000 and generates revenue of Rs.

60,000, there is a loss of Rs. 10,000 which represents non-recovery of assets consumed in doing business.

Income - Income is the increase in the net worth of the organization either from business activity or other

activities. Income is a comprehensive term, which includes profit also. In accounting income is the positive

change in the wealth of the firm over a period of time.

Profit - Profit is the excess of revenues over expenses during an accounting year. It

increases the owner’s equity.

Gains - Gain is the change in the equity (net worth) arising from change in the form

and place of goods and holding of assets over a period of time whether realized or

unrealized. It may either be of capital nature or revenue nature or both.

Drawings - It is the amount of cash or other assets withdrawn by the owner for his personal use.

Purchases - Purchases are total amounts of goods procured by a business on credit and for cash, for use or

sale. In a trading concern, purchases are made of merchandise for resale with or without processing. In a

manufacturing concern, raw materials are purchased, processed further into finished goods and then sold.

Purchases may be cash purchases or credit purchases.

Stock - Stock (inventory) is a measure of something on hand-goods, spares and other items-in a business. It

is called stock on hand. In a trading concern, the stock on hand is the amount of goods which have not

been sold on the date on which the balance sheet is prepared. This is also called closing stock (ending

inventory). In a manufacturing company, closing stock comprises raw materials, semi-finished goods and

finished goods on hand on the closing date. Similarly, opening stock (beginning inventory) is the amount of

stock at the beginning of the accounting year.

Debtors/Accounts Receivable - Debtors (accounts receivable) are persons and/or other entities who owe

to an enterprise an amount for receiving goods and services on the credit. The total amount due from such

persons and/or entities on the closing date is shown in the balance sheet as the sundry debtors (account

receivables) on the asset side.

Creditors/Accounts Payable

Creditors (accounts payable) are persons and/or other entities who have to be paid by an enterprise an

amount for providing the enterprise goods and/ or services on credit. The total amount standing due to

such persons and/or entities on the closing date is shown on the balance sheet as sundry creditors

(accounts payable) on the liability side.

HEALTH Hi i have a difficult time sleeping and when I do I am so afraid of sleeping with my

legs down. I may be able to one at a time but definitely not both at once. This is

causing my knees to really hurt.I also am still afraid of sleeping in complete darkness

unless its with certain people. I have a really good friend and sometimes I will sleep over his house and my fear of the dark

seemed to go away.

Answer

You should sleep with the lights on and try these tips. I also if this persists . You may

want to consider a therapist.

Do this religiously for 4-6 weeks although some have seen changes in as little as 2

weeks. 3 hours before bedtime stay away

from, caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, exercise, caramel colored soda like coke, pepsi,

ginger ale or root beer, all this make for restless sleep. When you get in the bed take a few slow deep breaths in and out, make sure room is

dark, you can put some mellow music while you go off to sleep but make sure the

alarm is set so it turns off after 30 minutes. When you go to bed if you start to twist

and turn only do it for 20 minutes, then you must get out of bed,go into a different

room ,then read a book or magazine, no computer. When you start to doze immediately go back into the bed. This retrains the brain into thinking that the bed is

for restful sleep only. Do this as many times as you awaken thru the night. It will

lesson.

30 minutes before sleep take a hot bath and put your hands, palms up under the bath water. Latest research is that the palms of the hands send signals to the brain that its

time to wind down and get ready for sleep. 15 minutes before bedtime drink a glass

of plain warm milk. Milk when heated contains tryptophan a natural amino acid sleep

inducer. If after all this is done for at least 4-6 weeks and you see no improvement consider

going to a sleep center and having your sleep evaluated. Your local hospital can refer

you. For more information go to sleepnet.com.

FOOD & NUTRITION I am a big big fan of soups and stews - mainly a load of

vegetables with a base such as oxtail or osso busco as flavour, or

minestrone. Because my soups are in large batches, I tend to

have 2-3 days' worth of dinner! I always thought this was

healthy because of all the veggies.

However, someone recently told me that soups were not

nutritious at all. They said this was because any vegetables in it

had all their nutrients 'boiled out' (hence their yellowish rather

than green colour, etc). They also said that fatty meats like osso

bucco / oxtail would lead to cholesteral problems.

Could you please advise on this? I'm quite dismayed!

Answer

It's not true that soups are not nutritious. It depends what kind of food you put into it. Yes, the enzymes

are destroyed when you heat food over 118 degrees, but that doesn't make soups any less nutritious than

cooked

Page 19: Jay-Ho Sample Magazine

greens in a skillet. The nutrients get "boiled out" into the broth itself, which is why soup broth is used all

over the world to get nutrition into people who can't eat solid food for whatever reason.

In a perfect world, you would eat all your produce raw but very few people follow a raw vegan diet like

that.

I would highly recommend not taking nutritional advice from friends and associates who don't know what

they're talking about. Good for your for researching more!

If you're eating lots of veggies in your soups, I would keep doing what you're doing. It's far better to eat

veggies in soup than not eat them at all.

I hope that helps!

PARENTING My little boy is just 13 weeks old. We are having alot of trouble

with his sleeping, not the length he sleeps, but how he goes to

sleep. No matter how we put him to sleep he throws a major

tantrum...I know thats the wrong word but thats what it seems

like. He will be sleepy, starting to drop off, when he will just start

screaming really hard. He does this even when held in our arms,

even if being rocked, even if being shushed, even if in the car or

buggy and when he is left alone. No matter what the method of

sleep he always just freaks out. Its really distressing for us to

watch and surely must be distressing for him. He cries so so

hard, really screams and it could go one for 20 mins no matter

what we do, calming him down is really hard. It only happens when he is falling asleep! Please please help!

Answer

You said this happens as he's starting to drift off. Sounds to me like he's starting to dream as he goes out

and has what's called a night terror. I had these when I was about 4. The doctor explained it to my Mom

that as I started to fall asleep, I wouldn't drift into a deep sleep so when I started to dream, images from

what I was dreaming would frighten me. They actually had to give me a mild sedative at bedtime so I could

fall into a deep enough sleep to keep the images from scaring me. I don't know as a doctor would

prescribe something for a child as young as yours, but talk to the pediatrician about a referral to a pediatric

sleep specialist to try and find out what could be going on.

FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING Question:

i would like to ask about a question about TDS on FD deposit:

1. I have a some fixed deposits and there some TDS Tax deducted on

deposits. Is there any way to claim that TDS tax as she doesn't have any other

income and she has PAN card as well ? Is there any way to avoid such TDS in

the future ?. She is having investment in mutual fund-ELSS. whether it will be

helpful to claim that TDS ?

Answer: Yes, there is a way to avoid TDS i.e. by submitting the 15 G form to

the Banker. As per the Income Tax guidelines, banks are required to deduct TDS on deposits if the total

interest earned in a given financial from all the deposits exceeds Rs.10,000. TDS Rate is 10% plus education

cess 0.3% (3% on 10) total 10.3%.But, if your income is within the maximum tax exemption limit, then you

may inform your bank about the same by submitting the 15G (form available at the bank).

Investment in mutual funds-ELSS will not help you in claiming TDS. The only way to claim the TDS is by

filing a return showing taxable income within the tax exemption limit and then claiming the TDS through

Form 16A which the banker issues when TDS is deducted.

Jainism is a non-theistic religion that developed from Hinduism in the Indian sub-continent at about the

same time as Buddhism. Jainism comes from a Sanskrit verb ji, 'to conquer'. Jains practice ascetism, as did

the man counted as Jainism's founder, Mahavira, a possible contemporary of the Buddha. Aceticism is

necessary for release of the soul and enlightenment, which means freedom from the continual

transmigrations of the soul at the death of the body. Karma binds the soul to the body. Mahavira is

thought to have deliberately fasted to death, following the ascetic practice named salekhana. Ascetism by

means of the three jewels (right faith, knowledge, and conduct) can release the soul or at least elevate it to

a higher home in the next reincarnation. Sin, on the other hand, leads to a lower home for the soul in the

next reincarnation.

Early history (7th century BC - 5th century BC)

Scholars of religion generally hold that Jainism originated in the 7th–5th century bce in the Ganges basin of

eastern India, the scene of intense religious speculation and activity at that time. Buddhism also appeared

in this region, as did other belief systems that renounced the world and opposed the ritualistic Brahmanic

schools whose prestige derived from their claim of purity and their ability to perform the traditional rituals

and sacrifices and to interpret their meaning. These new religious perspectives promoted asceticism, the

abandonment of ritual, domestic and social action, and the attainment of gnosis (illumination) in an

attempt to win, through one’s own efforts, freedom from repeated rebirth.

Jains believe that their tradition does not have a historical founder. The first Jain figure for whom thereis

reasonable historical evidence is Parshvanatha (or Parshva), a renunciant teacher who

may have lived in the 7th century bce and founded a community based upon the

abandonment of worldly concerns. Jain tradition regards him as the

23rd Tirthankara (literally, “Ford Maker”; i.e., one who leads the way across the stream of

rebirths to salvation) of the current age (kalpa). The 24th and lastTirthankara of this age

was Vardhamana, who is known by the epithet Mahavira (“Great Hero”) and is believed to

have been the last teacher of “right” knowledge, faith, and practice. Although traditionally

dated to 599–527 bce, Mahavira must be regarded as a close contemporary of

the Buddha(traditionally believed to have lived in 563–483 bce but who probably flourished about a

century later). The legendary accounts of Mahavira’s life preserved by the Jain scriptures provides the basis

for his biography and enable some conclusions to be formulated about the nature of the early community

he founded.

Mahavira, like the Buddha, was the son of a chieftain of the Kshatriya (warrior) class. At age 30 he

renounced his princely status to take up the ascetic life. Although he was accompanied for a time by the

eventual founder of the Ajivika sect, Goshala Maskariputra, Mahavira spent the next 121/2 years following

a path of solitary and intense asceticism. He then converted 11 disciples (called ganadharas), all of whom

were originally Brahmans. Two of these disciples, Indrabhuti Gautama and Sudharman, both of whom

survived Mahavira, are regarded as the founders of the historical Jain monastic community, and a third,

Jambu, is believed to be the last person of the current age to gain enlightenment. Mahavira is believed to

have died at Pavapuri, near modern Patna.

The community appears to have grown quickly. According to Jain tradition, it numbered 14,000 monks and

36,000 nuns at the time of Mahavira’s death. From the beginning the community was subject to schisms

over technicalities of doctrine, however, these were easily resolved. The only schism to have a lasting

effect concerned a dispute over proper monastic practice, with the Shvetambara (“White-Robed”) sect

arguing that monks and nuns should wear white robes and the Digambara (“Sky-Clad”; i.e., naked) sect

claiming that a true monk (but not a nun) should be naked. This controversy gave rise to a further dispute

as to whether or not a soul can attain liberation (moksha) from a female body (a possibility that Digambar

deny)

Pratyushan Parva

This Jain festival is celebrated by both the Svetamber and the Digambar sects in the month of August to

September. The Svetambar jains star observing it in the dark half of the month from the 13th day upto the

Page 21: Jay-Ho Sample Magazine

fifth day of the bright half for eight days. But the Digambar Jains begin to

observe it from the fifth day of the bright half of bhadra and terminate it after

eight days on the 13th lunar day. This festival signifies a man’s emergence into

a new world of spiritual and moral refinement from that of gross and depraved

world. During the days of celebration, the devout Jains keep fast eat only once

a day, worship the Tirthankaras, and try to imbibe the qualities and virtues of

great Jain saints and preachers. This is also the occasion of self analysis and

criticism and to do away with ones own shortcomings, etc.

Akshya tritiya

Akshya tritiya festival observed in the month of April or on the third day of the bright fortnight of Vaishakh

on each year. The literature of this festival according to the Jains is that the first tirthankara Rsabhanatha

on this particular day of Akshya tritiya with respect to his religious ritual and after his continuous fast of six

months received sugar-cane juice from the Prince Sreyamskumar. Thus as a tribute to this, the festival of

Akshya tritiya was celebrated every year. Mostly ladies take part in this festival where they are garlanded

and are brought to the temple in procession, after which the relatives go to the nearby sugarcane crusher

and clean the press with boiled water and collect the juice in earthen pots and offer it to the participants.

This is then followed by the vow taking of the participants of never drinking water without boiling for the

rest of the life.

Kartik Purnima

This falls on the full moon day of the month of November during which the monks and nuns of this

particular community start moving from the place where they were staying all these days .They are taken

in procession to next town or village where they are even accompanied by few other people and they start

eating green vegetables from which they stayed away all these days or in the rainy season. During kartik

purnima people start on pilgrimage to Palitana, the holy place. For those cannot afford this pilgrimage can

visit any of the nearby temples which has the hanging of Palitana painting or a display on a stone wall.

Mahavir Jayanti

The birthday of Lord Mahavir, the Jain Teerthankar is observed by both the Digambara and Shwetambar

Jains on the 13th day of the bright half of the Chaitra month. Mahavira

was born most probably in the year 599 B.C. This is celebrated by the

Jains and this is done by going to sacred sites and worshipping the

Teerthankars. There are ancient shrines at Girnar and Palitana in

Gujarat and people go there to worship on the auspicious day.

Mahavira Jayanti is also celebrated at Parasnath temple which is

located in Calcutta. This festival is celebrated with great style and

fervor in Rajasthan and Gujarat where the Jains are relatively in great

number. On this auspicious day, grand chariot processions with the

images of Mahavir are taken out, rich ceremonies in the temple are held and fast and charities are

observed. On this day the Jain scriptures are devotedly read and in some places grand fairs are also set up.

Diwali

Diwali is the day of 'Nirvana' of Lord Mahavira, the twenty-fourth Tirthankara in Pavapuri and they call it as

Deva Diwali during which homes and temples are illuminated with lamps. It is also on this day Ganadhar

Gautam, the first disciple of Mahavira Swami, attained complete knowledge. The Jains celebrate the diwali

during the month of Kartik for three days during which they observe fasting and chant the Uttaradhyayan

Sutra which contain the final pravachans of Lord Mahavira and meditate upon him. Also pilgrimages are

taken to the most sacred place, Mount Girnar in Gujarat where different kinds of celebrations are held.

History says that the first reference to Diwali is made in the Jain Scripture by Acharya Jinasena which hints

diwali is jains oriented festival which later was adopted by Hindus.

ABUSIVE LANGUAGE IN INDIAN CINEMA.

abbas3333 May 15

After the popularity of "Delhi Belly", a trend has been set up in Indian Cinema to use the

abusive language in order to gain popularity and cheap publicity. On one side censor board

says that it is mandatory to show a notice "Smoking is injurious to health" before the start of movie in

each and every cinema hall or multiplex and on the other hand censor board gives "A" certificate to

the films like "Delhi Belly" that uses abusive language and says that it is only for adults. Does it make

any sense or logic?

Smoking is injurious to health but usage of abusive language is injurious to our society and our future

generation.......

Aditya May 16

Abusive language has became a part of daily life in today's world. No matter from which area

u r. There is no point of avoiding this fact. I would say that such films are closer to reality than

the other films which show hypothetical world only.

abbas3333 May 16

@Aditya There are different ways of bringing reality out... But the way of using abusing

language in the film and then saying that we are bringing the reality out is not appreciable...

We all have used abusive language, but we dont use at in our home.....

Mmrityunjay May 16

So @abbas3333 , Brother !

Are you totally against of using abusive languages ? Or,

Are you against of these being used only in movies ?

And I probably will not go outside if it's raining and I don't like rain. :)

abbas3333 May 16

I am not saying that i m "TOTALLY" against abusive language, becoz i too had used it at some

or the other place.... But personally I dont like using abusive language for others nd i dont like

if somebody uses it for me.. But the point of conversation is that I am against of these being used in

movies.... u can smoke in ur room with ur frnds, nobody has the right to question u. But if u do the

same thing in public place, then certainly u will be fined or somebody will raise the objection.... there

are many things that one should understand.... u cannot advertise "LIQUOR" on TV becoz it will leave

a negative impact on minors.... same is with using abusive language in cinema... anyways it is only my

point of view... may depend from person to person....

praty May 17

It will not stop till it is banned for all the most obvious reason that people prefer movies to which

they can relate somewhat. the film makers are aware of this fact. Abusive Language has become

a sort of day to day conversation for the general population. even if you don't say it, you hear it. So its a

part of the normal life.

I agree with the point that if u smoke in a closed room nobody can have objections, while if you do in

public i still don't see anyone raising objections to it till they have having problem with the smoke because

again it is something that they are seeing all around and a part of their normal life.

and films are being made to earn money!! :) :)

Aditya May 18

Through cinema they are not advertising anything. Its a harsh fact. It's reality, and I believe there is

no wrong in bringing reality to the screen. We are not ashamed of what we do in our daily life but

yes we feel bad when the truth is spoken loud on the screen. Why such double standards?

Page 23: Jay-Ho Sample Magazine

abbas3333 May 19

@Aditya

There are many things that we do in our daily life dude, but that doesnt means that we will bring all

these things on screen.....

As per your logic, pornography should not be banned... right???? We are just bringing the reality on to

the screen..... Liquor and smoking advertisement should not be banned.....

Aditya May 19

Seriously, You compared pornography with abusive language.

Sex is not done in public. Its not an public issue its a private matter. Whereas people do use abusive

language in Public.

Pornography must be banned because

1) It encourages sexual assault and rape

2) It discourages gender based equality

3) It misguides youth specially in a country like India where there is no talks on such topic

Abusive language is just used to show discontentment of an individual. In 90% cases the person

abusing doesn't mean that too. Its just a way of showing frustration.

praty May 22

i think i'll take the points one by one..

pornography- 1st thing its not done public. secondly, its something u watch n not do. thatt also behind

closed doors. smoking, liquor, abusive languages these are things common not just to the person who

does it but even to the person who does not. so if you know a person who does all this and then you

see someone doing it in films for you its normal that 'ok! this is something i see everyday'

pornography is not something you do in front of passers-by everyday. this is not something you see

everywhere. and it does misguides people.

so comparison of abusive language and pornography is like not justified. they are not even close to

each other..very far and very different

barkha June 8

yes absolutely right. i saw little fellows in my street using abusive language without knowing the

meaning or sense of what they are speaking. when i asked then they said "jab gussa ata hai ya kisi se

ladai karte hai to ese hi bolte hai". i was shocked with this. they were motivsted from movies to do

so....and also one of my friend said that she is going to shange her accent of speaking abusive language

as she was influenced by JANNAT 2....

Means they are not been influenced by anything else but the accent of bad language...

harshit June 8

@barkha but you can't limit influence or ban things just for influencing wrongly it is just for that

precise reason that these movies have an 'A' Certificate because it is deemed that Adults can

distinguish between right and wrong. Take an example if there is a movie made on the life of say

Gandhiji it would have to show his death and cause of death but if some idiot is influenced by

Nathuram Godse (sic) and not Gandhiji after the movie then it's his personal problem and no doubt

he/she needs a psychiatrist but should we ban the movie because of it no I won't say it. Same is the

case with abusive language if even adults can not distinguish between wrong and right than it can not

and should not become the cause for censoring creative freedom taken by directors

DAMJIBHAI ANCHORWALA: SWITCHING TO SUCCESS

Damjibhai Anchorwala may have dropped his entrepreneurial anchors by selling his Anchor Electricals

Company to Panasonic, this Kutchi, industrious entrepreneur’s life

was no less amazing and inspiring. With a modest beginning as a

businessman, he succeeded in reaching to the top. But despite

sitting pretty on the summit of success, this philanthropist

businessman has been leading a very simple and austere life

He had made up his mind to be a doctor but the circumstances so

conspired that he had to abandon his dream and plunged into the

world of business. And he became a big industrialist,

philanthropist, educationist, lover of animals and a terrific human being.

He is Damjibhai Anchorwala of Anchor Electricals.

Anchor Electricals had a very humble beginning but thanks to his and his brother Jadhavjibhai’s unflinching

faith and hard work, Anchor became a glittering household name in the country. Sharing his struggle story

with Chitralekha as part of the FT Foundations-Chitralekha Jewels of India Series, Damjibhai admits

candidly that he had never thought that he would turn out to be industrialist.

Born in 1939 in Kundarodi village of Kutch, Damjibhai’s father Laljibhai was in money lending business.

Incidentally, this is the village where renowned music directors Kalyanji-Anandji were born.

Damjibhai recalls, ‘I had come to Mumbai with my father when I was barely 6. My father had a shop in

Bhaikhala near Khatau Mill. The shop was in the front and our accommodation was at the back. I stayed in

Mumbai for 1 year before my father took me back to my village Kundarodi. Later the whole family decided

to leave the village and migrate to Mumbai and Damjibhai returned to Mumbai with his parents and

siblings. While he took admission in his community Kutchi Visa Osawal School, his father started a new

partnership cutlery shop in Worli. He says, ‘while studying, my brother Jadhavji and I both sat in the cutlery

shop during evening rush hour. We liked attending to the shop. To tell you the truth, we enjoyed it.

Damjibhai’s economic condition was fairly good. With income in Mumbai coupled with farming income in

village, Damjibhai’s family was leading a happy life. Since he wanted to be a doctor, Damjibhai took

admission in Science section of Khalsa College. However, Destiny did not approve of Damjibhai’s plans, as

he fell ill when in college and had to be taken to Hyderabad for treatment. Damjibhai says, ‘I was in

Amirpeth’s Naturopathy Clinic for one and a half months and that is when for some unfathomable reasons

my decision to be a doctor changed. Now I wanted to do business. I had studied only up Inter Science and

later abandoned the college. Meanwhile in 1960 I was married to a girl from my village. According to

Damjibhai, a Bengalibabu lived across his shop and he would often prod his father to go into industry as it

had more money than shop. Damjibhai’s family liked this advice and decided to start a new enterprise. In

fact, this turned out to be a turning point for them. That Bengali Babu was involved in this new adventure

not as a partner but as one of the employees. A plot of land measuring 900 sq ft was purchased in the

compound of Bombay Talkies in Malad. They installed dies, mould and tool-making machinery. Since the

Bengali Babu was together, the company was named K B Industries, K standing for Kutchi and B

representing Bengali Babu.

But the project which was started in 1960-61 did not last long. It ran into losses and at times there were

problems paying salaries to workers. Damjibhai says that in this venture his uncle Vasanjibhai Velji was

with them. We had to depend a lot on our workers and at the end of two years we decided to lock away

the factory. Often failures become stepping stone to success. Though K B Industries closed down, it left a

burning desire in Damjibhai’s mind to do something new. This time he wanted to try his luck in

manufacturing and decided not to involve the Bengali Babu with him. Those days electrical switches

imported from Italy were hugely popular in India. These switches were not very complex and besides in

Damjibhai’s factory whatever die and moulds were made they were electrical items related, so he had a

fairly good idea of electrical items.

Around 1963 Damjibhai decided to start manufacturing of piano type fancy switches in the Bombay Talkies

compound. His uncle parted ways as he was not inclined to join the new venture. Damjibhai retained the

place and along with his brother he started manufacturing of switches. In India those days black toggle

switches were in currency. Piano switches were a new concept and people found it difficult to accept

them. Damjibhai says that though we embarked on manufacturing of switches, marketing them was a huge

challenge.

At the time in Lohar Chawl, Rasikbhai Dharia had a shop named Deepak Electricals in the electrical market.

He would as a rule sell imported goods but for some reasons took fancy for selling indigenous goods.

Damjibhai showed him his products. Raskibhai liked both the products and Damjibhai’s nature. They met

and instantly hit off. Rasikbhai was now willing to sell his products. His Zagmag brand was manufactured in

Damjibhai’s factory. Damjibhai’s wife Shanta bahen buts in: those days he would work away day in and day

out. He would bring home his switches and keep checking if the switches functioned properly by switching

them on and off. Now his factory was doing well. His products were getting sold. He also got support from

another trader in Lohar Chawl. There was a huge market for his products and so he was now not content to

selling only in Mumbai. He now wanted to expand his market all over the country and therefore decided to

make his own brand of products. He started selling his switches with brand name Victor.

For some reasons the name ‘victor’ could not be registered so he started searching for new names. He took

help of dictionary for the purpose and eventually Anchor name was chosen. This is how the Anchor brand

saga started. However, Damjibhai clarifies that there was no particular reason for choosing this name. It

was just that it was easier to pronounce and smooth on one’s ears. Countrywide agent network was set up

and his Anchor products were selling like hot cakes. In a span of 7-8 years, his company got established and

they soon started making other electrical items also. He started units at various other places. Even in

Daman and Valsad he purchased land for setting up factories. At the time his Bombay Talkies factory

produced goods worth Rs 1.5 crore which soon zoomed to Rs 1100 crore. His range of electrical products

included around 150 various items. Damjibhai’s original surname was Mamania but his brand Anchor was

so popular that he was soon known as Damjibhai Anchorwala. Perhaps he is the only industrialist in the

country with whose name his product’s name got associated.
