Career – Continued

June 1997 - March 2006 RBS & NatWest Group Change Management & MI Reporting roles

Joined NatWest - Group Tax in 1997 on contract where I produced the corporation tax returns for NatWest property disposals.I also built a calculation tool to accurately estimate future expected tax charges on proposed property sales. I was soon referred by my manager into a permanent position in Corporate Banking & Financial Markets, (CBFM).

The role was within the Payment Trade Banking Services directors’ office where I collated month-end MI for five businesses areas. The MI consisted of cost, income, project reports, and the business area executive pack. I learnt to manage the financial submission process and improved it using several macro templates. The numbers had to be accurate, provided with commentary, delivered against tight deadlines with extensive variance calculations such as Flash vs. Actual. This work involved detailed cross divisional discussions where I built up authentic relationships.

When RBS took over NatWest in 2000, I moved into the operational side of the business as a SME my focus was directed into helping the merger of NatWest and RBS. I worked on many business change projects and introduced Lean Processing.

One large transformational project I led was to migrate NatWest customer and product data onto new RBS infrastructure. This involved non-functional testing of the expanded RBS systems, dummy statement runs, parallel test and ticking back mountains of statements manually.

I also led a major FX & Payment Operations migration project.

The project lasted two years and encompassed travelling throughout the UK into various Operational business areas to understand their daily Settlement and Clearing processes. The mission was to create a Central Accounting and Control Unit in London for RBS - Manufacturing division. I worked on location mapping out current state processes across a suite of system and through my LEAN training improve said processes as I lifted and shift them into the new unit in London. Each Phase covered a batch of Operational product accounts; FX currencies, Documentary Credits, Bonds & Guarantees, Daily P&L, Nostro and many internal suspense accounts.

Through efficiently re-engineering I successfully helped my manager create a new greed field team in London of 28 staff and received several internal rewards for doing so.

Achievements at NatWest & RBS:

o Responsible for an Operations Transformational Programme, project from concept to completion. This involved migrating over 2500 Payment and Trade Accounts from UK business areas, to the Central Accounting and Control Unit in London.

o Production of daily P&L reconciliations and a monthly business pack to senior finance managers.o Faced-off to region staff at various levels and pushed through barriers to archive the desired goal.o Set up Lean account reconciliation procedures, reducing operational risks and coaching new staff members.o Reporting monthly ‘Flash’ Actual’s for CBFM Board with full variance commentaries.o Rolled out user acceptance testing of SAP when required and coached staff to use SAP.o Moved roles every couple of years and gained extensive insights within; Finance, Change Management and Operations
