CAREER HIGHLIGHTSProject Management and Design

Managed a high-level project which worked on improving magnetic media slit-edge errors and ultimately reduced lost product by 3%.

Reduced magnetic media “popped strand” errors from 7% to about 3% using DOE (design of experiments).

Head of the Solar Array Team (and PR) on the U of MN’s Solar Vehicle Project which helped propel the solar car to 6th place in a 2000-mile race across the U.S., and 2nd in the Formula Sun Grand Prix.

Designed a new tunnel and walkway system for a 3M webline using Unigraphics, allowing for a safer, cleaner and more efficient operator environment.

Designed and implemented compact media testers for four production plants which significantly decreased statistical errors between the sites.

Customer Relations and Technical Writing

Managed customers’ and vendors’ parts, orders and processes which helped increase two sales teams’ annual sales by 20% and 12%.

Continuously worked with customers by setting up meetings, presentations and brainstorming sessions which ultimately increased business.

Maintained project schedule timelines and provided schedule updates to customers.

Created a preventative maintenance and operating manual for a pilot slitting machine which greatly simplified documentation and archival procedures.

Created assembly/training guide for the linear packarms which included CAD drawings for all 60 parts and 3D exploded views for clarity.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

POWER/MATION - Technical Sales Engineer - St. Paul, MN (July 2008 - Jan 2009)Technical automation sales

Project management: Management of customers and vendors’ parts, orders and processes.Utilized design expertise to find customer-specific solutions for their automated processes.Training in motors, drives, power transmission, safety and automation.

A.P. ENGINEERING – Design Engineer - St. Paul, MN (Feb 05 - Jul 05/May 06 – Jul 08)Prototype and production equipment design with cost and time savings focus.

Customer and project management from idea conception and prototyping, to new product development using quality function deployment.

Developed testing apparatus for Honeywell, increasing measurement frequency 8-fold. Worked hands on in a variety of manufacturing environments and research testing labs.

BAE SYSTEMS - Mechanical Design Engineer – Fridley, MN (July 2005 – May 2006)Developed new ideas to improve the ever-changing defense needs of Navy ships.

Designed a smaller and more efficient ejector assembly for the Navy. Created multiple prototype concepts for loading different size missiles onto Navy ships. Redesigned the “missile cage” to provide better structural integrity and ultimately decrease chances

of a missile fire malfunction due to inadequate loadings and/or blast hits.

IMATION CORPORATION – Research/Development Eng - Oakdale, MN (2001 – 2004)Methods and equipment development for increased production efficiency and higher yields.

Participated on a team that qualified new linear packarms; increased overall profit by 12%. Developed prototype equipment which helped improve web handling of magnetic media. Designed an edge-burnishing testing apparatus for magnetic media that showed initial promise in

dramatically improving tape-edge quality (changed jobs before I could finish testing).
