“And your homecoming King and Queen are….” instructor Martina

Niemeyer said as the anticipation weighed heavily on all of the

homecoming king and queen candidates.

Standing arm in arm on the 50 yard line with senior Colin Reedy was

senior Allyah Rayyan as she heard the announcement that she would be

the Bellevue East homecoming queen. Twenty-four hours later, again

arm in arm this time standing in front of the student body, her long time

boyfriend Colin Reedy was announced as the Bellevue East homecoming

king.“The king and queen candidates are chosen solely by the senior class,”

Niemeyer said. “From there I find the natural break in the number of votes

and that determines the homecoming court.”

But before the glitz and glamour of homecoming was perfect, Rayyan

and Reedy prepared like any normal person would. They found the exact

color to match her beautiful dress, the best corsage in the flower shop, and

they picked out the ideal place for dinner.

“We prepared how we have in past years,” Reedy said. “Neither of us

had any intention of being on court. I know I’ve said it a million times, but

this whole experience was a complete shock. In the best way, of course.”

Along with planning for the dance, student council had to prepare for

the homecoming royalty. Ordering crowns, arranging flowers, getting the

ballots ready were all part of preparing for the homecoming court.

“Once they announced the court it almost seemed perfect that Allyah

and Colin were both on,” senior Trevor Wood said. “And from there

on out we were all rooting for them to win because what better way

for them to start out their senior year than by winning king and queen

together.”

Although many students thought it seemed perfect for Reedy and

Rayyan to be on court, it was still a shock to them.

“I was definitely shocked,” Rayyan said. “I honestly wasn’t

expecting it at all; it surprised me that people voted me on.”

Rayyan was amazed just getting on the homecoming court.

Actually winning queen put that shock on an entirely different

level.“The fact that I wasn’t even expecting to be on court made

me even more shocked that I won,” Rayyan said. “It was a

good shock though, like a really good shock.”

All the preparations to make for the perfect

homecoming fell together to make for the perfect night.

“I started looking for my dress in the summer not

knowing exactly what to expect,” Rayyan said. “After

that everything just seemed to fall right into place.

I couldn’t have imagined a better night honestly,

everything was so perfect.”
