In 1932 through 1933 there were attempts made to stop and restrict whale hunting.

The International Whaling Commission (IWC) formed in Washington, D.C., by 17 different nations. Helps to limit the number of whales that could be

hunted. Other groups such as GreenPeace became

very involved in the attempts to stop whaling.

The harpoon was invented by a norwegian named Sven Foyn. It was used because it contains an explosive head which would kill a whale instantly

Whale hunter’s also used factory ships because it was safe and made it easier to catch larger whales.
