pectedly found a quantity of gold.Now there was a bad-heartedcouple, their neighbors, who enviedthem their good fortune and askedthem to lend their dog. As theywould take no refusal, they got thedog; but when they took him alongthe road he would not scratch theground. Therefore they made himscratch, and then dug where hescratched. But instead of findinggold, they only found a lot of

man then took some of the ashesof the mortar and scattered

silk by the prince ofthe country: and

in purple was stained with blood.
