Whitefriars College has been welcoming International Students into its community for over seventeen years. During this time, the College has provided a program that recognizes the individual needs of these young men. Everything that Whitefriars provides is centered on the International Student’s successful orientation to life in Australia. The attention to intensive English instruction, pastoral homestay support, high academic success and personal and social development is given the highest priority. The College has a proud history of being able to integrate International Students into the full academic, pastoral, sporting and extra-curricular programs that are available to all.

Whitefriars College A Leading Catholic High School For Boys

Whitefriars College provides a Catholic secondary education for boys. The College is owned and operated by the Carmelites, an ancient religious order of the church. The tradition of the Carmelites creates the context in which the college educates young men to live with integrity and to strive for excellence in all that they do.

Whitefriars College is a Catholic High School for boys founded in 1961. It is situated in Donvale, Melbourne, a cosmopolitan city of 4 million people in the south east corner of Australia. In the peace and tranquillity of twenty hectares of natural bushland, boys from Year seven to twelve are educated in a caring and challenging atmosphere by the Carmelite order and lay staff.

The College enjoys a high reputation in business, sporting and academic arenas. Old Collegians now live and work in many parts of the world. They are pursuing exciting careers which began in the caring, supportive and challenging classrooms at Whitefriars College. Pastoral Care

A distinguishing feature of Whitefriars College is the quality and depth of Pastoral Care which extends to each member of the College community.

Students belong to one of eight houses and develop a sense of belonging under a vertical House System. The students remain in the same House, and with the same students and pastoral teacher and under the care of a Head of House until they complete Year 12.

Bridging and Intensive English Program

The orientation and Intensive Bridging Program is especially designed to meet the needs of international students as they commence their life and study in Australia and at Whitefriars College. The students usually spend one semester at the school in the Bridging Program before they enter mainstream classes.

The program enables International Students to:

Homestay Program

Whitefriars College has an excellent Homestay program. All students stay in College approved Homestays. The Director of the International Student Program interviews and selects families and homes considered suitable. Furthermore the student is met at the airport on the first arrival, introduced to the family and helped during the important settling in period. Assistance is given to purchase uniform and books and to open a bank account.

The Director is available to families and students for guidance and assistance during the term of the placement. Homestay families are carefully chosen and screened. They are interviewed and visited in their own home prior to notification of acceptance into our Homestay program. Homestay parents must have a working with children check and police checks are carried out for all members of the family over 18 years.

The College looks for a happy and welcoming environment. Homestay parents are expected to treat international students as their own son/s.

Curriculum and Technology

Through our curriculum, student are encouraged to discover and develop their own interest and talents. Our Pastoral Care, Transition, Outdoor Learning and Sporting Programs, along with extra Curricular activities complement the teaching and learning process as students progress through the College. Whitefriars College offers a wide choice for studies, with courses in English, Languages, (Chinese, Indonesian and Italian), Mathematics, Science, Information Technology, Accounting and Business Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, Media Studies, Humanities, Sport, Physical Education and Religious Education. Students are encouraged to discover and develop their own interests and talents. The policy of using technology to learn has led to the implementation of a Tablet computer program for all students. Every student has fulltime use of a Tablet computer for all subject areas. The traditional teacher-student classroom interaction is now supported by lessons and related materials available on the college intranet.

The policy of using technology to learn has led to the development of state of the art computer facilities, which support advanced programs in curriculum areas such as Computer and Business Studies, Science, Mathematics, Media Studies and Music. Whitefriars College is committed to keeping teachers and students at the forefront of computer technology in the pursuit of excellence in education outcomes. Every student is given a personal computer from Year 7 to Year 12.

How To Apply For A Place At Whitefriars College

Please complete the following steps:1. Complete and return the Application for Enrolment form

• Send your most recent school reports (two years)

• Include a copy of current passport

• Complete an English Test

2. If the College is satisfied with your application for enrolment, you will be made an “Offer of Place”.

3. When you receive an “Offer of Place” you will be asked to pay the following amounts:

• Tuitionfeesfor6months

• HomestayandSupportProgramfeefor6months(ifapplicable)

• HealthInsurancefortheperiodofstudyatWhitefriarsCollege.(OSHC)

• Bond(refundableattheendofstudies)

4. After payment by bank draft or direct transfer in favour of Whitefriars College Inc. you will be issued with a “Confirmation of Enrolment”.

Refund policyWhitefriars College will refund the tuition fees, OSHC fees and Homestay and Support Program fee less $100 administrative costs if entry to Australia is refused by the Australian immigration authorities. Otherwise after confirmation of enrolment no refund of any fees will be made except under exceptional circumstances beyond the control of the student and entirely at the discretion of the Principal.

Australian Immigration Department proceduresYou require a “Confirmation of Enrolment for Overseas Student” and a Welfare letter (for under 18 years of age) This is issued by the College to make an application for a student visa. Medical insurance for the duration of your study must be paid before you can obtain your visa.
