Throughout the months, Student Council has had many successful events that have taken place. Recent events that Student Council has taken upon are the Canned Food Drive, the Giving Tree, going to John A. Sciole to teach the kids about caring, and going to the Youth Bureau for the Day of Giving. The Canned Food drive took place November 1-15th. Each homeroom was to complete a list of food to bring in so that we could collect food for the less fortunate. This was pretty successful but we would like to see more participation with homerooms in the future. The officers of Student Council, Jr. SADD, and NJHS went over to John A. Sciole on December 6th to perform caring skits to the kids. The purpose of this was to teach the kids that Caring is important and showing them what our precept of the month actually meant. Next, we did the Giving Tree which took place November 27th - December 12th. The purpose of this was for students to pick up a tag on the tree that had an item to buy for a teenager. If you picked up a card on the tree, you would buy that pre-sent so that kids that are less fortunate could have a more enjoyable holiday. This was very successful and we got gifts that we could then take over to the Youth Bureau for the Day of Giving. On December 14th, the Student Council, Jr. SADD Leo Club, and NHJS officers participated in the Day of Giving. This was very successful and many families’ Christmas’ were changed by the generosity of food, trees, and presents. Lastly, Decem-ber 18-22nd was our Winter Spirit Week. This was successful. We saw many awesome, spirited outfits! From Ugly Sweater to Holiday Character Day, it was a lot of fun. Lastly, Deck the Doors helped to make our hallways more festive. Thank you to all who partici-pated!
Upcoming Business Student Council has a lot of exciting upcoming business. The first upcoming event we have is Winter Ball. This dance will be held in the cafeteria, Friday, January 26th. This is a semi-formal dance so be sure to dress nice. Tickets will be sold in the cafeteria January 23-25th from 7:30 a.m to 7:55 a.m. Hope to see you there! February 1-28th, Scavenger Hunt for the Troops will be held. Scavenger Hunt for the Troops is a drive for the troops, where you can donate toothpaste, shampoo, etc. Coming up after that we have Art for a Start which is an art supply drive for Carly’s Club and Roswell Park. Started by Victoria Lorenz, this has been an event for the past 2 years and we were on Channel 2 News last year. Hopefully we will continue to collect for Roswell Park. This will take place April 11th - 25th. All the proceeds we get for this will be donated to Roswell Park Cancer Institute to help cancer patients. Lastly, we have our annual Bald for Bucks. Bald for Bucks will take place on Wednesday, April 25th at 2:30 pm in the aud. This is for a great cause, which is to help Roswell Park. Since the inception, we have raised over $40,000 for Roswell Park. Student Council has had a great past couple months, and we cannot wait for the upcoming activities!

STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
HAPPENINGS IN THE LIBRARY Today the library is not just about checking out books and completing research (although we
still do quite a bit of that), it’s also about encouraging students to be innovative and artistic.
November and December were very productive months in the Makerspace as evidenced by
the pictures below. The students never cease to amaze us with their innovative ideas for pro-
jects and “Crafts of the Month”.
Some of the winter projects were wooden snowmen, popsicle angels and Christmas tree or-
naments, jingle bell wreath ornaments and electrical circuit reindeer cards. Several hundred
handmade crafts for each project were made and given out as Christmas presents to family
and friends. Perhaps you may have been lucky enough to receive one. They also helped to
create a Christmas Wonderland in the library by making snowflakes to adorn the windows
and ceiling. It was quite a beautiful sight to see. Everyone wanted to spend time here to en-
joy the festive atmosphere while reading, researching, creating and inventing.
A Makerspace is…“.. A place where students can gather to create, invent,
tinker, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials.”

LHS VARSITY GIRLS GYMNASTICS
Congratulations to the Lancaster High School Varsity Girls Gymnastics team for win-ning the Section 6 Team Championships!
Six gymnasts from Lancaster Middle School are members of this team that went 8-1 this year. 8th graders Carissa Gram and Elana Oun were joined by 7th grade mem-bers Irene Anadiadis, Kayla Schaefer, Sarah Read and Hannah Wojciechowski. Carissa and Hannah were sectional qualifiers who helped bring home the team title.
In addition to their athletic accomplishments, all of these young ladies contributed to the team attaining Scholar Athlete Team status by achieving GPA's higher than a 91 average.
Mrs. Aquino and Mr. Tylenda, teachers at LMS coach our successful team. This was Mrs. Aquino's 30th year coaching Lancaster's Varsity team.
Teachers and students have banned together to help foster an even more welcoming and friendly atmosphere at LMS. Each month, the teacher formed Wonder Commit-tee (based on the book Wonder by R. J. Palacio) has been creating a new precept and poster to get students thinking about what kindness means and how they can share it with others. Teachers across various content areas, including the school counselors, are a part of this committee.
In addition to the monthly precepts, students also engage in activities in their classes that help to further explain and reinforce the meaning of the precept and how it applies to their own lives. Eighth grade students, with the support of their parents, also had the opportunity to experience a day of Wonder. This was a day where students, in ad-dition to viewing the recent blockbuster, were asked to come out of their comfort zone and really got to experience what it might feel like to be Auggie from the book Won-der. A new unofficial club has been formed by students to help promote kindness and ac-ceptance throughout LMS. The next club meeting is on Tuesday, February 6 in room 305. All students are welcome to join!
We are looking forward to spreading kindness at LMS!
