JANUARY / FEBRUARY / MARCH 2017
A FREE cancer support program providing social & emotional support for all whose lives have been touched by cancer.
CALENDAR
SO THAT NO ONE FACES CANCER ALONE.TM
Welcome to 2017! What a wonderful way to start off a New Year - a fresh and redesigned Program Calendar! We hope that you will find this new format more accessible and make it easier for you to plan your program of cancer support months in advance. We encourage you to connect with Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka, whether for the first time, or in a fresh new way if you are already a part of our cancer support community.
The snow is blowing, the wind is howling, and yet as cancer takes no holiday and happens in every season, so too must our Program of cancer support. In 2016, over 1,500 individuals received support in living with cancer in their lives through Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka. We held over 175 adult support groups and 115 educational lectures. A further 200 children participated in their own specialized programming including support groups, camp days and family activities. As we welcome a New Year, we anticipate that many more will call upon our cancer support Program for the emotional and social support we have proudly offered since opening our Red Door in May of 2010.
The New Year promises much in the way of enhanced social and emotional support as we look to add to our robust Program in response to the changing cancer experience, and in response to the feedback shared by Members through our annual Program Survey. As such, in the coming months you will see more opportunities to connect, share and learn as survivors; see an increase in
the kinds of support groups offered, along with the ways in which they are offered, including shorter group series and topic based discussions; see a continued commitment to bringing more educational based presentations; and the opportunity to work more closely with the special needs and busy schedules of our families living with cancer.
Around the Clubhouse, you will also see some exciting new additions including our registration kiosk, that will allow Members and volunteers to sign-in as well as register for activities; our interactive website Program Calendar www.gildasclubsimcoemuskoka.org that now easily and conveniently allows you to stay in touch with cancer support wherever you are; and the addition this Spring of our Gilda’s Courtyard of Hope http://gildasclubsimcoemuskoka.org/courtyard-of-hope-bricks/.
There is much happening at Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka in 2017 and we hope that you will join us. Whether you are living with your own cancer diagnosis, or have been impacted by the cancer diagnosis of a family member or friend, we are living with cancer, living well with cancer, and living beyond cancer at Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka. We invite you to become a part of our cancer support community, so that no one faces cancer alone. You are not alone.
