Today we live in a world of broken promises and lies. In Is-lam this is a major sin. What does Allah say about makingpromises? It is important to know as we live in a time of hy-pocrisy. Do you know what happens when we lie and breakpromises? All the blessings we get will go to that person. Youthink you’re robbing the person and he goes with all of yourblessings. Allah says that when we lie, or promise and makean oath, if it is broken, we must feed 10 poor people. Some ofus may live lives where we would have to feed 10 peopleevery day. This is the Qur’an Chapter 5, verse 89. It is not justpresidents who lie in campaigns and elections. Muslims arelying similarly. This should not be so. Do not spoil yourIbaadah by making promises and not fulfilling them. Allahsays, Chapter 5 vs 89: “Allah will not impose blame uponyou for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will im-pose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended ofoaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people fromthe average of that which you feed your [own] families orclothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannotfind [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. Thatis the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guardyour oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses thatyou may be grateful.” Allah will not take us to task for jokesamong friends but promises must be kept. Many of us breakpromises and while we pray and fast, wonder why we don’tsee fruits of our Ibaadah. Allah says he will hold us to oathswe did not fulfil. First we must feed 10 poor people based onhow you eat and feed your family. We cannot be living inmillion dollar houses and feeding with cheap fast food. If youcannot do that, clothe them in complete clothing suitable forSalaat, similar to what you wear. We often want the best forourselves but ask for the least possible amount when givingto the poor. Finally, the option exists to free a slave. Only ifnone of these options are possible, then you fast for threedays. It is not that you break an oath and choose to fast be-cause it is easy. These are the methods of compensations putforth by Allah but better than all of this is to fulfil the prom-ise. How many deaths do we have to see to believe thatpeople die? We can die tomorrow. Let’s get up and do whatwe have to do! Fulfil promises and pledges! People we brokepromises to, we should ask for forgiveness before we have todo it on the day of Judgement. If we die without their forgive-ness, all of our blessings would go to them.

Explaining Hijabto

Non-Muslims

Of all questions Muslims are asked, inquiries about hijab are perhapsthe most common. “Are you hot in that?” “Why do you wear that?”“Do you force your wife to wear that thing?” These are all questionsthat many of us have been asked at some point or another, sometimesby people who have bad intentions and sometimes by others who aresincerely curious. Despite how often we are asked, many Muslimsstruggle to know how to explain hijab to non-Muslims. This can beparticularly difficult in the West where simply acknowledging differ-ences between genders is increasingly taboo. However, there are a fewways to explain hijab to non-Muslims in a way that makes sense tothem. Often, non-Muslims are told by Muslims that hijab is somethinga woman wears to protect herself. The problem with this explanation isthat what non-Muslims will understand from that message is that Islamteaches that women are responsible for the behavior of men, and thatthe hijab is a garment worn out of fear. Though it may not be the inten-tion of Muslims who say this, this explanation only reinforces nega-tive stereotypes about Islam and the treatment of Muslim women. In-stead, speak about hijab in terms of its true definition. As a community,we often have a tendency to think of hijab as a just a piece of women’sclothing, but the true Islamic definition of hijab is far more. Hijab is apractice of modesty in dress and in conduct, and it applies to both menand women. When speaking to non-Muslims about how Muslims dress, don’t be shy to say that men wear hijab too. Brothers may not covertheir hair like sisters, but they are supposed to dress modestly. Thedifference in levels of coverage is not unreasonable as our bodies aredifferent and should be clothed differently. Across cultures and reli-gious, men and women dress differently. Difference in and of itself isnot oppression. Furthermore, say that hijab is about conduct. BothMuslim men and women should dress modestly and behave modestly.Islam teaches that even if a woman does not wear hijab, Muslim menare not excused from practicing hijab themselves and behaving mod-estly. When speaking with non-Muslims, emphasize that both gendersare responsible for their own behavior no matter how the opposite gen-der may dress or behave. Finally, describe to non-Muslims how hijabworks. Often hijabis are awkwardly asked, “Do you wear that in theshower?”. Many non-Muslims are under the impression that Muslimwomen never remove their headscarves. Understanding when Muslimwomen remove their headscarves provides clarity, and it is also thekey to eliminating the stereotype that hijab oppresses women. As weMuslims know, Muslim ladies cover in front of non-mahram men andshow their hair and figure only in front of other women, their mahramfamily members and their spouses.

Church in America’s (ELCA), recently approved docu-ment “A Declaration of Inter-Religious Commitment:A policy statement of the Evangelical Lutheran Churchin America” and what it means for the over 9,000ELCA congregations and their 3,000,000+ membersin how they are being called to shape their relation-ships with people of other faiths, including Islam. Werecall that the Declaration, the result of over three yearsof reflection, prayer, and dialogue, was passed at theELCA’s 2019 triennial assembly with more than 97%of those in attendance voting in the affirmative.Thedocument notes that “God’s vision is of a world inwhich humans and creation, in all their glorious di-versity, live in unity, justice, and peace. In such aworld, hope abounds, and fear no longer separates oneperson from another or one people from another….We envision a world in which God’s grace and mercyare celebrated, and all of God’s creatures and all ofGod’s creation are regarded with value and treatedwith care.”Further, that “As a community of faith, weare inspired to put God’s vision into practice here andnow, even if we can see only vague outlines of itsfulfillment. We realize that we will fall short of theglory of God. Nevertheless, we live in love and hope.We seek to foster healthy relations and healthy com-munities in which all can flourish. We break the cycleof escalating retaliation that divides and destroys. WithGod’s help, we seek to mend and heal the world thatGod so dearly and deeply loves” The EvangelicalChurch in America does not speak for all Lutheransin the world, or even in the United States; however, for those who are guided by this document, a capti-vating vision of mutual respect, fellowship, and sup-port emerges. We have enjoyed building our relation-ship with the people of Darul Uloom in PembrokePines, Florida since 2001, emphasizing people topeople contact and fellowship as well as supportingone another’s ministry. We believe that these activi-ties equip all participants with a truer. Continued on page 33, InShaa Allaah

Assalamu Alaikum: Dear sistersand brothers, let us take this oppor-tunity to remind myself and you, ofthe inspiration and enlightenmentthat Allah (SWT) states in the Quran. “In-form my servants, that I am The Forgiving,

The Merciful”. (Quran 15:49)“Allah does not want difficulty foryou, but He wants to purify you, and to complete His favor uponyou, that you may be grateful.” (end of Quranic verse 5:6)“Whywould Allah punish you if you are thankful and believe? AndAllah is Appreciative (of good), All-Knowing.” (Quran 4:147)Andyour Lord said, “Call on Me; I will answer your prayers.” (Quran40:60) …”And seek God’s forgiveness! Truly God is much For-giving and Merciful” (Quran 2:199) “Whoso does evil or oppresseshis own self and thereafter seeks God’s forgiveness shall find GodMost Forgiving, Merciful”. (Quran 4:110) Our Lord (glorifiedand exalted be He) descends each night to the earth’s sky whenthere remains the final third of the night, and He says: Who issaying a prayer to Me that I may answer it? Who is asking some-thing of Me that I may give it to him? Who is asking forgivenessof Me that I may forgive him? (Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidthi andAbu Dawud “And such as Allah (SWT) doth guide, there can benone to lead astray. Is not Allah (SWT) exalted in Power? Lordof Retribution”. (Quran 39:37) “On no soul does Allah (SWT)place a burden with more than it can bear. It gets every good thatit earns, and it suffers every ill it earns. DUA: Our Lord! Con-demn us not if we forget or fall into error. Our Lord! Do not layon us a burden like that which you laid on those before us! OurLord! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength tobear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy onus. You are our Protector. Give us victory over the disbelievingpeople!” (Quran 2:286) “Remember Me; and I will rememberyou. Be thankful to Me, and never ungrateful.” (Quran: 2:152)“O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those be-fore you, so that you may protect yourselves. It is your Lord whomade the earth a bed and the sky a canopy; and it is He Whosends down the rain from above for the growth of everykind of food for your sustenance. And do not set uprivals to Allah (SWT), while you know better”. Quran2:21:22) “I am as My servant thinks of Me. I am withhim when he remembers Me. If he mentions Me withinhimself, I mention him within Myself. If he mentionsme in an assembly, I mention him in a better assembly. If he comes near to Me a hand span, I come near tohim the distance of a cubit. If he comes near to me the distanceof a cubit, I come near to him the distance of two outspreadarms.

My friends, Islam is about submitting ourselvesto the will of theOne true God Allah SWT by praying our salat, fasting, payingour zakat/charity and making the hajj pilgrimage if we have thehealth and means to do so. These are the most critical compo-nents of it but what is also of critical importance is how we livewith others and how we treat them, including our families, ourrelatives, friends, neighbors and humanity in general. It is aboutfulfilling the orders of Allah God Almighty and about giving themessage of Islam to others. This great message of truth and hope, this message of belief in only one God Almighty Allah SWT, theCreator of the entire Universe and everything in it, this great mes-sage of salvation. Allah God Almighty ordered is in chapter 3verse 102 of His final Scripture the Holy Quran; ‘O you whobelieve (addressing the believers), FearAllah (by doing all that hehas ordered and by abstaining from all he has forbidden) FearHim as He should be feared and die not except that you are in astate of Islam (that is in complete submission to the will of Al-lah). In verse 104 Allah SWT ordered: ‘Let there arise out of youa group of people inviting to all that is good (in Islam) enjoiningthe oneness of Allah God Almighty and all that Allah orders us todo, and forbidding disbelief and all that Allah has forbidden, andit is they who are the successful. God Almighty also commandsus; ‘Say : O people of the scriptures, come to a word that is justbetween us and you, that we worship none but Allah God Al-mighty alone and that we associate no partners with him, and thatnone of us shall take others as lords beside Allah the Almighty, then if they turn away say; bear witness that we are muslims (thosewho submit ourselves to the will of Allah). My friends, the lastprophet Muhammad SAW (may the peace and blessings of Godbe on him and all the Prophets) said that one of the greatest sunnahor best practice of his (that we should follow) is to share the mes-sage of Islam with others. This is our job my friends, but yet manyof us feel comfortable as we are already Muslims and we neglectour mission. Praise be to God Almighty that He has guided us toIslam and to do many good deeds and acts of righteousness andwe should indeed feel good and happy with ourselves.

He pleases to the straight path. (Yunus 10:25) Say: this is myway, I invite unto AllahGod Almighty. (Yusuf 12:108)Invite tothe path of your Lord with wisdom and good advice, and rea-son with them in the better way. Lo! The Lord is best aware ofthose who go aright. (An-Nahl 16:125)Indeed you invite themto a straight path. (Al-Mu’minun 23:73)

Allaah (SWT) defines Prophet (SAW)’slife as the ideal model for us to follow. Ifwe cast even a cursory glance on his com-

panions, we will find that their life was dedicated to fulfill thecommands of Allaah (SWT), and His Messenger SAW. Graduat-ing from his (SAW)’s academy, they sacrificed their time, energyand whatever means they had to help others. Their hearts werepure and they had no interest in this material world. When suchcompanions and those who came after them had such a puritanapproach towards life, one can well imagine the life style of ourbeloved Prophet (SAW). The first 13 years of his early life inMakkah were extremely hard and full of oppression, but after mi-gration to Madinah and especially after the treaty of Hudaybiah, the continuous conquest of Islamic ideology over heathenism andpolytheism established Prophet (SAW’s authority over the entireArabian Peninsula and beyond. Peace and justice brought pros-perity and affluence, but it did not change the life style either ofProphet (SAW), of his family or his companions. Prophet (SAW)did not like to associate with materialism. He (SAW) practiced onthe philosophy of life he himself mentioned: Anas (RA) reportedthat Prophet (SAW) said: “Ya Allaah, there is no true life but thelife of the Hereafter. [Bukhari & Muslim] Abdullah bin Masud(RA) narrates that Prophet (SAW) said: “What I have to do withthe world? I am like a rider who had sat under a tree for its shade, then went away and left it.” Once Prophet (SAW) said that Allaah(SWT) gave him the choice between the two life styles: 1. Combi-nation of a king and prophet and 2: The combination of a prophetand a slave. Prophet (SAW) chose the life a prophet and a slave.[Kitab-ul-Zuhd]. Sulayman and Dawood were both prophets aswell as kings. Prophet (SAW) did not want to give an impressionto his Ummah that comfort and worldly power is necessary topractice Deen.Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal (RA) quotesUmmulMomineenAa’isha (RA) that an Ansari lady visited her. When she saw that a rough blanket serves as a bed for the Prophet(SAW), she sent a thick woolen cushioned bed which was notonly soft but very beautiful. Prophet (SAW) having noticed askedabout it. UmmulMomineen told him the whole story. Prophet(SAW) asked her to return, but she did not want to return it be-cause she herself liked it so much. Prophet (SAW) told her that ifhe wanted, Allaah (SWT) could have left mounts of gold and sil-ver at his disposal. Listening to this UmmulMomineen returnedthe bedding. [Ktiab-ul-Zuhd]. UmmulMomineenHafsa (RA) hadonce folded Prophet (SAW)’s bed sheet in four layers to soften it.Prophet (SAW) was unhappy when woke up the next morning.[Shamayel-e-Tirmidhi] According to one tradition, Allaah (SWT)asked Prophet (SAW) if he wanted Makkah to be turned into avalley of gold. Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (DHSTRIP)

A little known resolution procedure

The Department of Homeland Security(DHS) Traveler Redress Inquiry Program(TRIP) is a procedure to allow persons who

have experienced difficulties during their travel screening atairports or crossing U.S. land borders to address the issues andprevent future problems upon entry. Homeland Security saysthis program is part of an effort by the departments of State andHomeland Security to welcome legitimate travelers while stillsecuring our country from those who want to do us harm. Whengoing through immigration some people are pulled aside andsent to “secondary” inspection because something has beenflagged in their record. This can be a result of mistaken identity,a travel record that did not properly record your timely exit fromthe country and incorrectly shows that you overstayed your au-thorized time on a previous entry or other mistaken derogatoryinformation that is shown on your record. Secondary inspectioncan also be caused by fingerprints that were incorrect or of poorquality along with a myriad of other issues. Secondary inspec-tion may also be a result of random screening and what somebelieve is based on bias towards certain groups of people.Secondary inspection can result in missing connecting flightsor being stuck for hours at the airport after a long trip. DHSindicates that they will work with you to resolve travel-relatedissues when:You were not able to print a boarding pass from an airline tick-eting kiosk or from the InternetYou were denied or delayed boardingA ticket agent “called someone” before handing you a boardingpassYou were told: your fingerprints were incorrect or of poor qual-ityyour photo did not match the travel documentyour personal information was incomplete or inaccurateyou are on the “No Fly List”You want to amend a traveler record because of an overstay as aresult of not submitting the required I-94 when exiting the UnitedStatesEnsure your biometric record in the Department of HomelandSecurity Systems is corrected if inaccurate. You believe you were unfairly detained during your travel ex-perience or unfairly denied entry into the United Statesthe U.S. government’s record of your personal information isinaccurateIt should be noted that the TRIP program does not address travelissues related to mishandled bags or poor customer service.

PARENTS ARE ICONSPARENTS ARE ICONSPARENTS ARE ICONSPARENTS ARE ICONSPARENTS ARE ICONSDOUBT IT NOTDOUBT IT NOTDOUBT IT NOTDOUBT IT NOTDOUBT IT NOT

Our parents are precious gems who shinewith a lustrous glow that sparkle our lives. However, it is not always smooth sailing

for them as their boat is often jolted at times by life’s turbu-lent winds. Nevertheless, despite whatever obstacles are intheir way, they continue to plod on with Allah as their soleguide. No one can repay parents for the great job they do inthe moulding of children’s lives. Through thick or thin ourparents are there with us. That painstaking work by them in-evitably puts them in Allah’s good books for He will rewardparents with His copious blessings and mercies.Al-Hamdulillaah (All praises to Allah). A lot of gratitudeshould be shown to our parents as they are indispensable forcesin our lives. They walk the extra mile to procure the addi-tional things we need to enjoy life. Therefore, we should re-member them when praying and ask Allah to guide parentssafely through life’s winding roads. Life is replete with ex-amples reflecting the greatness of parents. It’s my pleasure tolist a few quotes (parts of the many examples) to highlightthe very noble and esteemed positionof honour held by par-ents. May you digest them with grace.-“And out of kindness, lower to parents the wing of humil-ity….” Al Quran 17:24.-“Paradise lies at the feet of thy Mother.” Prophet Muhammad(Peace be upon him).-“Children obey your parents in everything for this pleasesthe Lord.” Colossians 3:20 (NIV)-“Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despiseyour mother when she is old.” Proverbs 23:22 (NIV)-“Listen, my mother; blessed is the son who loves to obey hisparents’ commands….” AyodhyakandaRamcharitmanasIn closing, I would do so with a small dua (supplication) toAllah in poetic form – each stanza beginning with the words‘Ya Allah’ (O God) and the last line having the word ‘Jannah’(Heaven).

Ya Allah heal parents’ aching bodies,Let them prosper; let them do shine.Shower on them bountiful mercies,

Touch them with Your hands so divine.Ya Allah they are here for a day or two,

Only and only You know of the exact time,So on knees I am asking from heart of You,For the parents, let Jannah’s bells chime.

MY JOURNEY WITH KHIZR (A.S)Submitted by Bro. Taj Siddique / Florida USA

I have been pa-tiently waitingfor overtwenty years toget enough un-d e r s t a n d i n gBro. Taj Siddique

before I opt to write this article. Allah hasprovided me the guidance and I humblyrequest Him to accept my work, and toforgive me for any unintentionalerror. This article deals with the journeyof Moses (pbuh) with Khizr. Please re-cite Ayat 60 to Ayat 82 of the 18th SurahAl-Kahf in Holly Quran. Read it’s trans-lation and study it’s tafseer.I had the burn-ing question in my mind as to why Khizrkilled the innocent boy. The answer thatthis act was committed per Allah’s com-mand, or the boy was going to become awicked son for his pious parents, failedto justify this example. I studied manywritings and discussed it with manyscholars. This article is my attempt toexplore this issue. Insha Allah, my Lordwill help me.We are human beings andhave two spans of life, one is our presentlife on this planet, and the other is ourpermanent life after death. I will focusonly on the life that we are all experienc-ing on earth and the world around us. Re-ligion and science have provided us lim-ited knowledge about this world. Our ex-perience is based on our ability to see, smell, hear, taste, and touch the compo-nents of this planet. We justify our ac-tions based on this limited knowledge andour evolving experience. This is the “seenworld”. There exists another parallelworld, very close to us, but not visible tous, and not accessible by us. It is calledthe “unseen world” (Alam-e-Ghaib). Il-lustrations of this unseen world are theAngels, Soul (rooh), Divine Revelations(wahi), life after death, heaven, hell, andother examples. There is aninvisiblecurtain between the two worlds, that will be raised on the day ofjudgement. The purpose of human beingis to live on this earth in order to partici-pate the training that prepares us for the

next life, and the trials that qualify us forit. Whereas the duties of the angels (andother such creations of Allah) involvemanaging the affairs of both the seen andunseen worlds, in accordance with theorders from Allah. He has assigned thesecreations as the bureaucratic force for themanagement and administration of ourseen world. These creations are livingamong us and are working continuouslyto manage this world from major tasks tominor details. They get their courseworkand their orders from Allah. Some of themare given highly elevated assignments asprominent as the teaching of a Prophet.Khizr is one such example.Khizr was as-signed to educate Moses about the co-existence and inter-relationship betweenthe seen and unseen worlds. He carefullyselected three very simple examples toelaborate the difference of our knowledgeabout the seen world and the lac of ourknowledge about the unseen world.Something that may seem to us as totallyunacceptable and totally unjustified mayvery well be within the norms of the un-seen world. Everyday around us we see alot of incidents beyond the bounds of ourintelligence, beyond the limits of our tol-erance and beyond the boundaries of ourcomprehension. Let me mention just onesuch example. Within a few seconds, over100,000 humans died in the 2005 Kash-mir earthquake in Pakistan. 138000 wereinjured and over 3.5 million becamehomeless. 19000 innocent children wereburied alive when their school buildingscollapsed. How and why has this hap-pened? The life of a human being is some-times beset by trials, tragedies or calami-ties that appear to make no sense. Ourhuman mind is unable to comprehendthese heartbreaking catastrophes. Most ofus often ignore the existence of the un-seen world. It is where the matters of ourseen world are decided. These bureau-cratic forces do administer the Devineplanning and implement the Divine poli-cies. Upon finalizing His decisions, Al-lah issues orders to these forces for ex-

ecution. Therefore, no matter what wedecide on this earth, it needs the blessingof Allah. The knowledge Allah teachesHis servants is of two types, knowledgethat is acquired through human effort, andknowledge that Allah teaches from Him-self. Allah describes Khizr as, “One whomI taught knowledge from Myself. Khizrkilled the innocent boyonly as an meta-phorical illustration to show Moses thathis action may not be allowed under thelaws of this seen world, and is totally un-acceptable for our civilization, it was con-ducted for a very specific reason, for thebenefits of humans, and with the authori-zation of our Lord.Khizr carefully se-lected a very controversial and provoca-tive scenario to demonstrate his teaching. The act which Khizr did was purely fromAllah’s destiny. He made it take place onKhizr’s hands so that the believers coulduse it as a stunning example of the subtlebenefits in what Allah has destined. It wasnot conducted as a random act of vio-lence, or a shallow action of cruelty. Itwas handled with thorough analysis andtaking into consideration the results andimpacts of this action for both the presentand the future of the humans involved.Fora brief duration of time, Khizr lifted thecurtain between the seen and unseenworlds, and let Moses observe the strate-gies and proceduresof the unseen world. We should have full faith in the wisdomof what is happening in the Divine Fac-tory. If the veil be removed from the “un-seen”, we would. Between the seen andunseen worlds, and let Moses observe thestrategies and proceduresof theunseenworld. We should have full faithin the wisdom of what is happening inthe Divine Factory. If the veil be removedfrom the “unseen”, we would come toknow that what is taking place here is forthe best. Khizr was telling Moses to havea complete faith in the mercy of our Lord, and do not give hope when things aroundus go beyond the comprehension of ourhuman brain.

The Life of the Prophet SAW SAW) replied that the seven Dinars which were de-livered a day before were still there and not given away.[Bukhari]Similarly once having prayed Asr, Prophet (SAW)went home in haste and came back. It was unusual and peoplegot anxious to know the reason. Prophet (SAW) said: “therewas some gold at home and I was concerned for its distribu-tion before the nightfall, so I went and asked it to be givenaway. [Bukhari] Prophet (SAW)’s food and drink was simpleto the core. UmmulMomineenAa’isha (RA) reported that thefamily of Muhammad (SAW) never had the bread of barley toeat for two successive days until he (SAW) died. [Bukhari &Muslim] Anas (RA) reported that Prophet (SAW) neither ateon a dining cloth, nor ate soft bread throughout his life.[Bukhari] The Prophet (SAW) was always gracious in accept-ing invitations. He obliged the rich, the poor, the indigent, thechief, and the slave. [AzZuhd]. If per chance some one joinedhim on his way to a reception, he allowed his company subjectto the approval of the host. Once Abu Shu’aib Ansari (RA)visitedAllaah’s Messenger, and found him sitting among fiveof his companions. Prophet (SAW) seemed to be hungry.Shu’aib came home and had the food prepared for five people, and then invited Prophet (SAW)along with his companions. While on his way another person joined him. Prophet (SAW)told Shu’aib that an additional person had joined him withoutpermission. He would let him come subject to his approval.Shu’aib submitted to take him along. [Bukhari]Prophet (SAW)always used simple dress, though at times he used fine dresstoo, but that was neither his preference nor it suited his tasteand nature. He (SAW) used to say that the son of Adam (AS)needs not to have claim over any thing except a place to live, cloth to cover his body, and simple food to fill his stomach.[Tirmidhi]continue on page 34...

However, we also have a duty tocorrect the misconceptions othershave of Islam and to spread thismessage of truth to all mankind andnot just keep it to ourselves. On theDay of Judgment, when questionedby Allah God Almighty as to whythey did not follow Islam, the non-believers will complain to Allah andtell Him that we the Muslims nevergave them the message, just imag-ine! Then what are we going to sayto Allah God Almighty my dearbrothers and sisters? We have ahuge responsibility to our fellowhuman beings to clarify and con-vey to them the message of Islam. We cannot force anyone to revertor to convert or to Islam, our mis-sion is to simply give them the mes-sage of truth; to believe in one GodAllah SWT alone with nopartnersand to believe in all of HisProphets such as Adam, Noah,Prophet Abraham, Prophet Moses,Prophet Jesus and Prophet

Muhammad, Peace and blessings of Allah be upon them all. Myfriends we can only give the message, and it’s for the Almighty toopen their hearts and guide them to His path, but we MUST do ourpart and share the message of truth with others. My friends, this canbe as simple as helping to buy Islamic literature or CDs and givingor mailing to non-Muslims or donating to your Masjid or to groupslike Al Hikmat Services who share the message of Islamby givingQurans, CDs, DVDsand other Islamic literature to the prisons, In-terfaith eventsand other institutions. Another real simple and yetmost effective way to share the message of Islam with others is bystriving to emulate the character of the noble Prophet MuhammadPBUH and to live Islamby having the best manners, a good disposi-tion and strive to have the very best character. When we’re at worklet us make time to pray our Zuhr and Asrprayers if we can, whenwe fast, we should let our boss and our co-workers know we arefasting,we should not hide or be ashamed of this. We are blessed byour Creator to be followers of Hismessage,we should wear it as abadge of honor and always be happy and grateful to our Lord andshow our gratitude by obeying Him. As time goes by our coworkersand friends will ask us about our religion and then we simply tellthemwhat we believe as Muslims and give them a Quran or bro-chure, in that way we will be giving the message to them.

Mother In

LawA wife decided to go for aweek vacation by her sister, leaving her husband in su-pervision of her mother andher dog. After a few days, shecalled her husband andasked, “How is everythinggoing?” He responded say-ing, “YOUR DOG ISDEAD.” She cried out andsaid, “Why couldn’t you’vebroken the news slowly? Youcould have said the dog wasplaying on the roof on thefirst day, the next day thedog broke its leg, then thenext day the dog died. Thewife continued, anyway, how’s my mom?” The hus-band replied “YOUR MOMIS PLAYING ON THeROOF.”

For all mankind to see a glorious mystery. For many a millennium this wonder did existWe know not for how long it would remain,One of the many wonders on a protected list,To survive man’s folly for his eventual gain......The otter swims around the splashing bearThe eagles perched on high, below a resting deer,Bear cubs play beside a hollowed treeAnd the floating mist fades, wonders for all tosee......As we sail from this temperate beautyA natural dominion of hidden treasures,The young must preserve these gifted wondersA timeless gift for all of humanity............

(Bukhari,Muslim) The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “Whosoever in-tends to do a good deed but does not do it, Allah records it withHimself as a complete good deed; but if he intends it and does it,Allah records it with Himself as ten good deeds, up to seven hun-dred times, or more than that. But if he intends to do an evil deedand does not do it, Allah records it with Himself as a completegood deed; but if he intends it and does it, Allah records it down asone single evil deed.” (Bukhari, Muslim) So a reminder to myselfand you, to always follow Allah (SWT) directions, learn and readHis Quran. He will guide us to the direct path to a blessed life. Aslong as we continually make effort to follow Allah (SWT) guid-ance; He will reroute us if we are going astray. May we all followAllah’s guidance and live our lives in the best manner that is pleas-ing to Him. Ameen!

TEN CANCER CAUSING FOODSTEN CANCER CAUSING FOODSTEN CANCER CAUSING FOODSTEN CANCER CAUSING FOODSTEN CANCER CAUSING FOODS1. MicrowavePopcorn - The lining ofthe bag used to makemicrowave popcorncontains perfluorinatedcompounds (PFCs) toresist grease andprevent leaking. PFCs

also exist in Teflon pans, pizza boxes, andsandwich wrappers. These PFCs breakdown into perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA),a chemical some researchers believe causescancer. A majority of Americans have PFCsin their blood, so research is ongoing todetermine if these compounds are relatedto cancer or another disease and what levelof harm they carry. According to the U.S.Food and Drug Administration, microwavepopcorn accounts for more than 20% of thePFOA levels in Americans. Although everymanufacturers uses slightly differentingredients, most of them use Soybean oil(a GMO product) and variouspreservatives such as propyl gallate, achemical that causes stomach problems andskin rashes.2. Alcohol - Even small amounts of alcoholincrease the risk of developing cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.Alcohol consumption is linked to 5.6% ofall new cancers and 4% of cancer deaths.Heavy or regular alcohol use also increasesthe likelihood of developing cancer of themouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, liver, colon, and rectum. Genetics play a role ina person’s chances of developing cancer asa result of drinking alcohol. Genes encodethe enzymes involved in metabolizingalcohol. Individuals of East Asian heritagemay carry a version of the gene that speedsthe conversion of alcohol to a toxicchemical called acetaldehyde. Those whocarry this gene have a higher chance ofdeveloping esophageal cancer.Alcohol use is the second leading causeof cancer. Excessive drinking is known tocause heart failure, strokes, and suddendeath.3. Processed Meats - According to the U.S.Department of Agriculture, Americans areeating more meat than ever, around 222pounds each year, per person. Processedmeats including sausage, hot dogs,

Dr. Iqbal Nazir

pepperoni, packaged lunch meat, beef jerky, ham, and bacon may increase the odds ofdeveloping colorectal cancer. The WorldHealth Organization warns that dailyconsumption of even one hot dog or a fewstrips of bacon increases cancer risk by18%. Processed meats are any that havebeen cured, smoked, salted, canned, ordried. They contain nitrates, preservativesadded to enhance flavor and deter bacteriagrowth. Nitrates also occur naturally infresh foods. Researchers can anecdotallylink them to cancer, though the research isinconclusive and ongoing. All these processed meats contain numerousChemicals and preservatives, includingsodium nitrates, which makes them, lookappealing and fresh but all knowncarcinogens. Smoking meats seems to beparticularly bad as the meat picks up theTAR from smoking process. TAR is thesame deadly ingredientthat cigarettesmoke contains.4. Refined Sugars - People who eat a diethigh in refined carbohydrates such as whitebread, white rice, pasta, soft drinks, and fruitjuices are more likely to develop coloncancer than those who consume mostlywhole grains and complex carbohydratessuch as fresh vegetables and fruits. Studiessupport the probability that high bloodglucose and insulin levels in the bodyincrease inflammation and along with it, therisk of cancer. The glycemic index measureshow fast carbohydrates turn into sugar inthe blood. A 2016 study linked excessconsumption of high glycemic index foodsto an 88% greater risk for prostate cancer.Cancer cells seem to prefer feeding onfructose rich sweeteners like HIGHFRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP which ismetabolized by cancer cells most quicklyand easily. 5. Red Meat - Eating red meatevery day, even a small amount such as thatquarter pound hamburger. Increased aman’s risk of dying from cancer by 22 %and a women’s cancer by 20%. Eating a lotof red meat increased the risk of breast, prostate, and colon cancer. Studies showeating more than 18 ounces of red meat perweek can increase the chance of colorectalcancer. Some studies also link processedmeats with a higher incidence of colon

Dr. Iqbal Nazir / Homeopathy Curecancer. Doctors suggest introducing meat-free days and generally cutting back on theamount of red meat consumed. Peopleshould avoid overcooking red meat, whichproduces chemicals that may increase therisk of colorectal cancer.6. Food Dyes - Food dyes such as Red No3, Red No 40, Yellow No 5, Yellow No 6contain carcinogens such as benzidine andcause cancer in lab animals. As these dyesdo not enhance the nutritional quality orsafety of foods or medications, scientistscontinue to argue that they should not beadded to food products. Manufacturers con-tinue to add them to candies, sports drinks, baked goods, salad dressings, and evenmedications. Candies like M & M is loadedwith these dyes.7. Farm raised Salmon or other fishes -Sure fish, especially salmon, is known asone of the healthiest foods out there, butunfortunately more than 60% of salmon inthe U.S. is farm-raised… and could bedeadly. Farm-raised fish are fed unnaturaldiets and contaminated with chemicals, antibiotics, pesticides and other known car-cinogens found in materials like asbestos.Farmed salmon is also fattier than freshsalmon, which means it soaks up more tox-ins. Eat a healthy omega-3 packed, freshAlaskan salmon instead or wild caught fish.Never eat farm raised Tilapia which is fullof toxins.8. Potato Chips - They may be cheap, easyand delicious, but these crispy, addictingsnacks can also be deadly. These fatty foodsdon’t only cause weight gain because oftheir high trans-fat content, they also haveexcessive sodium levels, which cause highblood pressure and artificial flavors, pre-servatives and colors. Another risk is thepresence of acrylamide, a known carcino-gen found in cigarettes. Try not to feed thesequick snacks to yourself or your kids andchoose pretzels, air-popped popcorn orbaked apple chips instead.

Answer: Al-Hamdulillaah- there are many Hadith on the virtues ofperforming Umrah in Ramadhaan.Performing Umrah inRamadhaaan carries immense value and religious significance.Umrah in Ramadhaan is an opportunity to get the blessings of allfive pillars of Islam. Hence, there so many people from all over theworld, who go for Umrah for the extra blessings in Ramadhaan. Aperson's Imaan gets stronger; more blessings for Salaah; an oppor-tunity to give Zakaat; fasting together with hundreds of thousandsof people from all over the world and the blessings of Hajj by per-forming Umrah in Ramadhaan. Virtues of Umrah in Ramadhaancan be understood by the following Hadith: Hazrat Ibn ‘Abbaas RAsaid: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah beupon him) said to a woman from among the Ansaar – Ibn ‘Abbaasmentioned her name but I forgot it – “What kept you from perform-ing Hajj with us?” She said: We only have two camels and the fa-ther of her son and her son had gone for Hajj on one camel, and heleft us the other camel so that we could carry water on it. He said:“When Ramadaan comes, go for ‘Umrah, for ‘Umrah in (that month)is equivalent to Hajj.”In another Hadith, narrated by Ibn 'Abbas(Radhiallahu 'anhu):When the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)returned after performing his hajj, he asked Umm Sinan Al-Ansari,"What did forbid you to perform hajj?" She replied, "Father of so-and-so (i.e. her husband) had two camels and he performed hajj onone of them, and the second is used for the irrigation of ourland."Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said (to her),"Perform Umrah in the month of Ramadhaan, (as it is equivalent tohajj or hajj with me (in reward)."The given Hadith clearly high-lights the importance and benefits of Umrah in Ramadhan. It is con-sidered the best time to perform Umrah and whoever performs itduring the holy month of Ramadan gets the reward equal to a Hajj. However, it should be noted that performing Umrah in Ramadhaandoes not discharge a person from the obligations of Hajj. Both theterms become equivalent in rewards but not in fulfilling the duty.Umrah is not obligatory whereas Hajj is compulsory for every Mus-lim if the person is capable of performing it.Millions of Muslimsfrom every corner of the world go for Umrah in Ramadhaan, toachieve closeness to Allaah by fasting and worshipping together. Itis truly a breathtaking sight to see so many people breaking theirfast together during Iftaar with a common objective which is to con-nect to Allaah (SWT).Umrah is a spiritual journey and pilgrims travelto Mecca to seek the mercy of Allaah (SWT) with their heart filledwith love and gratitude. It is an enlightening experience for everybeliever, one that they would remember for a lifetime and be al-ways thankful. Umrah is a blessing throughout the year but it holdsspecial significance in the sacred month of Ramadan, an experiencethat every Muslim should try to accomplish. InshaaAllaah

Explaining Hijab to Non-MuslimsContinued from page 7 By Sister Amanda Smith

This practice gives women an extraordinary amount of powerover their bodies. Muslim women get to pick the one specialman who will have the privilege of seeing her. Far from op-pressing women, the hijab frees women from being belittledby society to no more than her appearance. Within the prac-tice of hijab, a woman’s appearance is something special, something to be valued, and she has power to show it to theone man who will value her in entirety. This important aspectof hijab is often missing from our conversations with non-Muslims, but it is vital to share in order to clearly convey thefull beauty and power of practicing hijab. When speaking withnon-Muslims, remember that hijab is not an article of women’sclothing. Hijab is practice lived by both Muslim women andmen. Hijab is about modest clothing, modest behavior, andempowerment.
