Transcript of January, February, · AARP TAXAIDE FREE TAX HELP: AARP Tax-Aide is offering their services again...
Dear Friends, Welcome to January! It’s hard to believe that on December 2, 2019, I started my
new position as the executive director of the Tuscarawas Senior Center. Although
this is not my first leadership position, I would definitely describe this as my
‘dream job’. I have served as the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central
Ohio and the executive director of the Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working
Uninsured. I have most recently served as the assistant director at Personal & Family Counseling
Services in New Phila. I have spent the past 25 years working in the nonprofit sector. My passion
has always been about helping others and I feel extremely lucky to have been given the
opportunity to serve in this capacity. I am looking forward to working with the Board of
Directors, the staff in all departments and satellite locations, as well as the members.
A little bit about me, I am married to my best friend, Brian Smith and together we have five (5)
children; Brian (26) who lives in Dresden, Andrew (21) who is a junior at the University of Akron,
Morgan (20) who is a junior at Ohio University, Abbi (16) a junior at Dover High School and a
cheerleader for football and basketball, and Manning (16) a sophomore at Dover High School
and a football player.
Thank you to those who have stopped by to introduce yourself or have taken a minute to share a
favorite story or two. I have enjoyed getting to know the members and the staff these last few
weeks. I am looking forward to continuing the good work of my predecessor, Pam Ferrell. She
spent some time with me in December teaching me the ropes and sharing her insight. I feel very
fortunate that she was willing to share her wisdom with me prior to her final departure. I want to
wish her the best in her retirement.
For those of you who I haven’t met yet, please know that I am looking forward to that first
encounter to get to know you as a member. Membership retention is important to me as the
director and I want you to know that my door is always open. We will work as a team to ensure
that the members’ needs are being met through programs, transportation, satellite availability,
dining experiences and social events. I will continue to strive for the same goal that Pam had in
that we want to know how we can better serve the senior citizens of Tuscarawas County.
I plan to take these next three months to learn about the organization, visit the satellite locations,
get better acquainted with the staff and learn about the many different programs we offer. I am
excited to be a part of this amazing organization and I am looking forward to building
relationships with my team members.
My Best,
Jamie
