Our Mission: To build a parish community that shares God’s love through prayer, service and evangelization so that all feel welcome in making St. Jude their home.

Please email [email protected] for January bulletin submissions 10 business days before the requested bulletin publication date. Articles are subject to approval and space availability.

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

We are Called to Be Disciples of Our Lord, Jesus Christ

By virtue of our baptism, we are called to be disciples of our Lord, Jesus Christ. As his disciples, we are expected to be in communion with him all the time and enjoy his majesty, splendor, strength, and honor. We are called to draw strength from him and to participate in his mission and proclaim the good news by our words and deeds. We are called to bring light, joy, love, peace and salvation to all nations.

In the first reading (Isaiah 8:23 -9: 3), we are told that the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Their anguish and pain have been taken away by the Lord. And abundant joy brought to them. The Psalmist said that the Lord is our light and our salvation. We should not be afraid but have courage because the Lord is with us. Our communion with the Lord gives us strength and holiness of life. St. Paul in the second reading (1Corinthians 1: 10 -13, 17) encourages us to be united as brothers and sisters in the Lord. There should not be any division among us because we all belong to Christ Jesus. By virtue of our baptism, we were all made members of the body of Christ.

In the gospel reading (Matthew 4: 12 -23), Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah by bringing the light of the gospel to the people who were in darkness and misery because of their sins. Jesus preached and asked the people to repent of their sins in order to enter his kingdom. He called some fishermen by the Sea of Galilee to follow him. And they left their boat and followed him immediately. Jesus went around Galilee and other places together with these men proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God and curing all kinds of diseases among the people.

By virtue of our baptism, we have been made children of God and members of his Church. We are called to be his disciples and to proclaim his gospel to all nations. We are called to be in communion with the Lord and with one another. We are called to participate in the mission and ministries of the Church and proclaim the gospel to all people. We are called to respect and treat one another with the dignity of the children of God. During our baptism, we promised to let go of evil and the life of darkness and to embrace the light of Christ and be holy like him. We are called to be light and salt to the world by bringing joy, love, peace, justice, and salvation to all people. Jesus came to take away our sins, sickness, anguish, and pain by dying on the cross for us. He brought us the joy of the gospel and salvation. We are called to give glory to God for giving up his son for our salvation. And we have a responsibility to propagate the good news of the kingdom of God to all people by our words and deeds.
