Hello again rom the Capitol. We are now startingour ourth week in Helena and the pace is getting aster! Te Governor has a proposed two year budget oalmost $4.5 billion in the general und. Tis is $359

million higher than the LFD (Legislative Fiscal Division)which works or us Legislators. Te last revenue orecastor our budget is $145 million less in income taxcollections and $45 million down in oil and gas receipts. For the love o me I do not know when income is downwhy the Governor wants to increase spending! We willsee what happens at the end o the session. Our Senate President, Debby Barrett, has SB 114which would establish hydropower as renewable, cleanand green energy. Te U.S. and most o the states,

including Montana does not have this in our energyproposal. Te reason or this is that the environmentalistscan tout their more expensive energy. What is cleanerthan hydropower!

My SB 45 passed the Senate last week. We have nothad a government phone book since 2009 and it is sodated that most o the agency heads and administratorsare not there. Tis is an invaluable tool or we Legislatorsand all Montanans. Te cost o this would be about $20thousand or 11,500 books. Some thought this was toomuch so I said we should sell yellow pages and put the

Senator Brenden reports from Helena bid or printing to the private sector. Tis is nothingmore than transparency in government. Last session I brought orward SB 77 that raised theamount cities and counties could purchase equipmentrom $50 thousand to $80 thousand without the bid

process. Tis is due to inflation, etc. and really helpsthe more rural counties. Tis bill was signed by theGovernor and brought to my attention by ormer Mayoro Scobey, Ron Audet. We lef out the conservationdistricts so my SB 88 rectifies this oversight. It passedsecond reading on Saturday with a 45 to 0 vote and Iexpect it will pass today (Monday) on third readingI was pleased to have Jeff Wivholm (President o theMontana Conservation Districts) and Willie Bernard(Montana State Director) visiting the capital last week. All or now and I will visit with you next week. ~ Sen. John C. Brenden

    The President o

Coca Colamakes a phonecall to Russian PresidenVladimir Putin: VladimirI have noticed that youhave changed the Russiannational anthem. Do youhave any plans to changethe ag as well - return to the

previous purely red ag? Iyou would put our CocaCola trademark in a cornerwe would solve all youproblems with pensionssalaries of ofcials for acouple years ahead... Vladimir puts thecall on hold and askshis colleague: Heywhen does our contracwith Aqua Fresh end?
