Dear Friends, Each year I review and project how the parish is doing financially. I will do that this weekend at all the masses. I hope to present to you a clear picture on where we are financially and what lies ahead for us. The new construction brings the added expense of paying a note. The Diocese of Baton Rouge is generous in loaning the parish money when needed. We will be using our own cash in the beginning of the construction until later when we will need to access the loan. This is why the pledges made and fulfilled are so important. I have asked also that you consider continuing with your pledge even though it may be complete as of this date. The church debt was completed long after the pledged amounts were finished because of the generosity of so many parishioners who were determined to see the debt eliminated. This coming week, I will be in Washington DC for the annual meeting of the Board of Directions of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions. This is part of my Diocesan work, as this group serves both as consultants to the local Bishops in the majority of dioceses in the US, and the Bishops’ Committee on Divine Worship for the USCCB. This coming week is Catholic Schools Week. Our School celebrates this week annually with all the other Catholic Preschools, Elementary and High Schools in the Diocese. Catholic Schools provide a unique service, offering Catholic Religious Education within the context of a general education. That’s the “Catholic Atmosphere” that only a Catholic School can provide. Today, there are so many choices a parent can make in providing a school education for their child. Our Elementary School is small, with a fine reputation for the work of education and religious education provided. Our parish has supported this parish ministry for over 35 years. Please remember our School if you are considering the education of your child. It is for some a sacrifice, but I believe it is one that bears good fruit in the lives of children who are educated in this way. Please support both of our Schools with your prayers and choose our Schools as your partner in this crucial area of life. St Jean Vianney Elementary School Open House is Thursday January 29, 10:00-1:00pm beginning in the Library. Pass the word. Next Sunday morning, I will be helping to coordinate the Dedication of the newly renovated Church of

We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:

Lynn & Ina Dugas on the death of their grandson, Parker River. Dr. Ralph & Vick Dauterive on the death of his father, Dr. Francis Dauterive. Kent & Lizette Leader on the death of his father, Barton Leader, Sr.

VOCATION The call of the disciples is so familiar to us that we tend to miss the wonder of the disciples' response, which was immediate and complete; they leave everything and follow Jesus. Can we do less if we feel that God is calling us to the priesthood or religious life? If you think God is calling you to a Church vocation, call or email Father Matt Dupré at 225.336.8778, [email protected], or visit, www.diobr.org/vocations.
