Thank you for your continued financial support of your parish.
Plate Offering $0 (delayed) Online Giving $4,385.00 Total $4,385.00
As you may have noticed, our weekly reports are fluctuating. This is because a number of parishioners during the
beginning of the Pandemic started contributing Monthly to the parish instead of weekly. Since that time, many have
preferred to keep this method. We are now offering Weekly Envelopes to those who wish to contribute every week in the basket AND Monthly Envelopes for those who prefer
to donate one total amount for the month. Online Giving is still preferred and is available to all parishioners. Three
possible ways to give. Again, Thank You!

Dear Parishioners:
Many of you are asking about the broken stained glass window at St. Edmund’s Church and I thought it would be easiest to offer this update to everyone at once. The window was broken in a wind storm on June 30, 2020. That evening, I called our insurance company and they responded within 2 hours to secure the property, dry-out the building and board-up the window. Since that time, we have secured estimates from liturgical architects who are responsible for these types of specialty items in churches. Based off of the initial estimates, the job estimated costing $52,000-$74,000 to repair the window. The insurance company offered us $9,000 to fix the window. The current construction of the space at St. Edmunds is over budget and left us with a $300,000 loan to make-up the shortfall of people not fulfilling their pledges to Generations of Faith. Point being: No more money can go to St. Edmund’s. After several months of working with the insurance company and arguing our position, they agreed to pay for the replacement of the window. I green lighted our contractor to begin fabrication...until… the Breezy Point Cooperative, Inc. did not approve the vendor and his particular insurance policy which did not conform to the Cooperative’s particular guidelines. That vendor, who has worked on a number of churches in the Northeast, has since declined the job and I am currently re-bidding the job.
I have engaged with the Diocesan Building Office, the Diocesan Real Estate office, and Diocesan Legal Counsel. I have retained legal counsel for the parish and have been in contact with the Cooperative regarding our position. As we move through these negotiations, I wish I could tell you that we have a final timeline for when the window will be fixed, but I have now realized some 7 months later that the Cooperative rules not only cost us time but money.
Please know this, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn has a process in place to choose vendors, approve them, check their credentials and insurance and counter-sign contracts with each. Our process for choosing a vendor goes well beyond just checking a small insurance clause to try and avoid a lawsuit which is impossible in New York City.
We priests are assigned to live among you. While we have been constantly told we are contractors ourselves and not shareholders, we still embrace this community as we would in any of our Catholic Parishes. There is nothing we would ever do to cause harm to our beloved Parish or the Cooperative that we also call home. I will update you upon any further information. St. Joseph the Worker, Pray for us!
Sincerely in Jesus Christ,
Rev. Father Michael Louis Gelfant
