Unity through Diversity The Body of Christ image used by Paul in 1st
Corinthians is one of those wonderful concepts that can
be used in so many ways. We can apply it to ourselves, to
our relationships, to our organizations, churches, and
groups. In fact I think it can be used in almost any
circumstance. Basically what I take from it is that we
need diversity to create true unity.
Our societies and world have come to the political
conclusion that democracy as we know it is probably the
best system we can come up with. It attempts to offer
voice to all people and allows for disagreement. It is
never perfect of course, but in our country we are blessed
with the freedom to disagree.
Our Church is universal, it speaks many languages, is
worldwide, and multi-cultural, it celebrates all life and has
a myriad of rituals and facets. Again, it’s far from perfect
but it is very heterogeneous.
As individuals, we are born of female and male, both
very different, and are a mix of their personalities and
temperament. We are unique from their diversity. We
believe in Jesus Christ who is diverse, both fully human
and fully divine, who works all his life to bring people
together. Jesus’ diversity allows him to see the others as
loved by God.
All that to say that diversity and difference are what we
should rejoice in as Christians, not be afraid of. Our fear
of things being different leads to hate, separation, and
even violence. Our task remains the same, to build the
Kingdom and become the body of Christ. It is spiritually
expressed in our coming together as a Church for the
Eucharist. This experience of unity celebrates our
uniqueness but also allows us to know that we need the
other. The other makes us whole and that together we
form the Body of Christ.
Thank you to all those that generously donated to the
Diocesan World Mission Haiti Relief Fund. The Catholic
Church is the strongest working network in Haiti. FORRESTS@ARCHMIL .ORG
maneras. Lo podemos aplicar a nosotros mismos, a
nuestras relaciones, a nuestras organizaciones, iglesias,
y grupos.
podemos proponer. Procura ofrecer voz a toda persona y
temer.

Stewardship Corner There exists in our parish community a diversity of unique gifts.
God has provided us with these gifts in order to advance His King-
dom. Our sisters and brothers in other Christian denominations
have also been blessed with unique gifts that are being used for
the same purpose. This week, the Annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity comes to
a close. We pray that throughout the year all Christians would be good stewards of
their relationships, seeking to understand each other, being always patient and hum-
ble, and listening to one another, so that the Body of Christ may be truly united.
verdaderamente.

Parish Evangelization “There are no strangers here… only friends we haven’t met.”
Today and tomorrow, we will be completing our week of prayer for Christian Unity.
During the past century, reconciliation between Christians has taken on very different
forms. Spiritual ecumenism has shown how important prayer is for Christian Unity.
Great energy has been put into theological research which has led to a large number of
doctrinal accords. Practical cooperation between churches in the social field has given
birth to many fruitful initiatives. Locally we praise the efforts of the INNS program for
the Homeless, as well as the CUSH initiatives… Along side these major accomplish-
ments, the question of mission has had a particular place.
Not everyone naturally makes the link between missionary endeavor and the desire
for Christian Unity. Yet surely, the missionary commitment of the Church must go hand
in hand with its ecumenical commitment. Because of our Baptism we are already one
body, and we are called to live in communion. God has made us brothers and sisters in
Christ. Is not this the fundamental witness that we are called to?
This year, as we follow Luke’s Gospel through Ordinary Time, we will hear many sto-
ries of which we ―are witnesses of these things.‖ From Mary Magdalene to the two Em-
maus disciples, from Simon Peter to the terrified women at the tomb, all will witness
their personal encounter with Christ in a different way. One thing for certain: their per-
sonal encounter with the risen Christ radically changed their lives, and together they all
worked to announce the Good News.
This week, as a ―Gentle Evangelizer,‖ we can help remedy the division of churches by
praying for Christian Unity as we + recognize that God is at work in our daily lives, +
giving thanks for the faith that we have received, + seeking to always be more faithful
to the Word of God, + offering hospitality to somebody beyond our family, and + know-
ing how to receive hospitality when it is offered to us. Why not invite someone to
Church with you next Sunday?
