Heartland Light Circle

The Heartland Light Circle (Sykyo Mahikari) meets and offers Light treatments on Saturday once a month (usually the 3rd Saturday) from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. There is a sign-up for hourly times. If you haven’t experienced this purifying, centering process allow yourself to accept and appreciate the energy. Everyone is welcome!

The Heartland Light Circle gives “True Light” a healing, balancing energy treatment. It is not a Unity organization; however, it is very compatible with Unity. Remember, another name for God is Light. For more information visit the website: www.sykyomahikari.org. This is on a love offering basis and all love offerings gifted to the Light Circle are shared 50/50 with Unity Lincoln.

Loving Ministerial Services Available

At Unity we provide loving service for weddings, memorial services, christenings and baptisms, house blessings as well as other sacred services like counselling as desired. Love is the most important element. Our services strive to feed the souls of those who participate. As human beings we sometimes feel the need to make a proclamation before God and our fellow human beings. We need to acknowledge a change or turning-point, a commitment or decision made. We are happy to support you in your process.

We hope you will think of us when looking for a special place to have your occasion. Our fees are usually a love offering for members and by reasonable agreement for non-members.

Take Wings in 2019

Wings have been a Unity symbol since the beginning. Co-founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore chose the ancient symbol of outstretched wings with the sun orb in the center as their first symbol spread across the top of every publication. Charles was a Rosicrucian and knew the symbol well, the protective wings and the RA or Egyptian symbol for One God. He blessed the Unity movement with this protective energy carved into many of the buildings.

This symbol remained the symbol of Unity School of Christianity, aka Unity World Headquarters, until the current logo was recently adopted. All ministers until 2012 wore these wings on their name tags and stoles.

The Association of Unity Ministries now known as Unity Worldwide Ministries also had wings in its original logo. Many people know and love the bird in a circle. In fact, this symbol once flew at the peak of the old Unity Lincoln building and will eventually find a place in our new home. I understand that a friend, Dorothy Ginske, designed this friendly symbol in the 1960’s for the association. The bird has been called a dove, a seagull, a fantasy bird. Dorothy always just laughed when asked. Interestingly, the new joint Unity logo, which is branded and copyrighted, also elicits many questions like: “what is it?” Apparently this is a nod to monkey mind!

Our hymnal, now released by so many Unity Centers, is called the: Wings of Song. Truly, many millions of hours of song have flown from its pages!

So, as we move into this New Year, consider giving yourself and Unity Lincoln, wings in the New Year. See us divinely protected, energized and expanding to take flight, to broaden our horizons and follow our divine guidance into our next creation.

World Peace Meditation

This simple mantra can change the world.

Peace is my job,

Peace is my nature,

Peace is my purpose,

Peace is my Truth.

Please take 15 – 20 minutes to sit in silence.

Let this mantra resonate within you, allow it flow into and transform your inner landscape. I will then transform your outer landscape and the world.

Gratitude for On Going Pledges!

We celebrate everyone who is, has been and continues to meet their building fund pledge! The pledges made last year and paid each month continue to pay our monthly “house payment” or mortgage on our property which makes a huge difference in the financial health of the community. You are all making this difference! Your practicing consistent giving is of great and ongoing value to us and as Unity teaches, we see your gifts manifesting and multiplying prosperity and abundance in your lives.

Inclement Weather Policy

Unity Lincoln now has an “Inclement Weather Policy.” The Board of Trustees has selected First Plymouth Church downtown to determine our closing status during the winter.

Go to http://www.1011now.com/weather/closings Sunday morning or other typical church day.

Check the list of closings for First Plymouth Church. If they are closed, we are closed.

Note: In general, churches do not close unless there is a major ice or snow storm or they are small and rural.

Why?

We dress for the cold and turn on the heater.

We advise people to use their best judgement always.

We consider the person or people who go to the effort to

attend and may get there to find the doors locked.

Food Drive to Stock UNL Student Pantry

Unity Lincoln is in the middle of a Food Drive to supply the UNL Student Pantry with good, healthy food and toiletries. Please see the list on the wall and stock the bin at the parking lot entry. These are our kids and they can use some help!

How to Create A Year on Purpose

Why not get a jump on 2019 as a year on purpose? Here are some ideas you can use as a business owner, a Mom, a Dad. or any family member.

The definition of “purpose” is: the reason for which something is done or created. If you are a business owner here are some ideas to create a Year on Purpose. Start by asking yourself: “How do I want my customers to describe me?” Or “how do I want my customers to feel once they’ve done business with me?” “What emotional need does my product or service satisfy?” “How can my customer’s business be changed by utilizing my service or products?” “What new resources can I find that will support me in my business?” All of these questions can help me direct my business.

If you’re not a business owner the questions can be these: “How do I want to show up for my family members or friends this upcoming year?” “How can I elevate my level of excitement about activities in the upcoming year and how can I make my presence purposeful?” “What actions do I want to take that will produce satisfaction, fulfillment and harmony in 2019?” And last but not least: “What key things happened in 2018 that I was grateful for and can express gratitude for and expand in 2019?” I hope the upcoming year is a Year on Purpose for you! If you need to get a quick jump on it, email me at [email protected].

Until next time - Go Make it Happen. ~ Kris Thaller, Life Coach

New Member Class and Orientation

Be There! February 3rd and 10th after our Sunday Service, beginning at noon and ending about 1:30 pm. Both classes are required attendance for membership. For pre-class prep, choose and borrow a Unity Classic book from the library upstairs to read and discuss. (If you prefer not to do this, talk to Rev. Toni about alternatives for membership.)

Learn what it means to be a member at Unity Lincoln. Join Rev. Toni and other Unity Lincoln leaders to discover the benefits of being a member of Unity Lincoln. Please sign up so we know how many to expect. A light lunch will be served and childcare will be provided (if requested ahead of time). Please state any dietary restrictions (vegetarian, allergies, etc.).

Annual Business Meeting

Wonder how we’re doing? Come to the business meeting, on January 20th, to find out. You will get the nitty-gritty. Also, praise and bless past board members as they step down and see new board members take their position at the end of the meeting. Titles are then selected at the first new board meeting in February.

We have much to be thankful for to Kris Thaller who has served two full terms on the board. Paul Fox is also releasing his board position after serving an odd term to bring us into compliance with our bylaws. Both Kris and Paul have been part of the powerful prayer and action team that got us into our new building!!!

Recently I took a long car trip with my sister. We went to visit my niece, my sister‘s daughter, in Virginia. My niece Emily, lives in a suburb of Washington DC, along with her husband, Andrew and their daughter, Fiona. At this point I should tell you that my sister is 15 years younger than I am. My Mother was 25 when I was born and Dad was 29. When Patricia was born they were 39 and 43, so basically we were raised by different parents. In those days you couldn’t tell beforehand whether there was a boy or a girl in there, so there was a lot of discussion about names. As I remember, if it was a girl, I wanted to give her the same name as a girl I had a crush on at the time. Well, the baby was born on St. Patrick’s Day, so that settled that.

Anyway, when I was raised, my folks were all gung-ho about how to raise a child and when their only daughter came along they were, more or less, tired. Add to all of this that I had a mind of my own, I mean, I really had a mind of my own. I’m sure some of that sprung from the fact that I was Mom’s folks only grandchild and at the time, the only boy grandchild bearing the Jones name. My poor brother Stan, is nearly 13 years younger than I am and probably the smartest of the Jones kids, but just sort of got left out of everything except a lot of work. What all of this boils down to is that Pat and I don’t have much in common, so spending eight days together was a lo-o-ong time.

On the second day of our drive to the DC area, we were driving on the interstate highway just out of Washington, Pennsylvania, when I spotted a small object in the road, but because of the traffic I couldn’t swerve to miss it. It looked like a part of roadkill that somebody else had hit, but when I hit it, the front tire blew out. I pulled as far off the road as I could, which wasn’t far because of the terrain. Pat, who belongs to AAA got on her phone to call them to help us. She was still on hold when an ambulance stopped behind us with its lights flashing and two very nice young men asked if they could help us. I explained the situation and they went right to work. Now, I’ve changed lots of tires. I don’t like to, especially on this car because the tires are quite heavy, and my jack is one of those with a two-piece handle that you can go halfway around with, then you have to flip it over. Anyway, Joe and Zack got us back on the road in about 20 minutes. It seems that they had taken someone to the hospital and were on the way home at the end of their workday, saw a chance to help if they could, and so they did.

If there is a moral here it’s that there are lots of nice folks out there and when you get

a chance, be one of them.

Peace, love, joy & blessings ~ John

Teddy Bear Sunday

You hugged on ‘em, loved on ‘em, and filled them with peace to share!

Soon they will be picked up for giving!! The huggable toys will be put safely into plastic bags to keep them clean as they ride along in emergency vehicles. Lincoln police officers and fire fighter/paramedics will give them to children and others in crisis, in need of a hug and something to hold on to. We are spreading love in Lincoln. When you see or hear an emergency vehicle, consider that your toy may be riding in it – enfold the hold experience for all involved in love and peace and comfort.
