Ashtabula Area City Schools has faced hardships: lower funding, the elimination of teaching positions and operating in an area with a high rate of poverty. Normally, these three strikes would lead a district on a path to failure. Ashtabula’s path has proven this idea wrong. We are on a path leading the district and its students to success.

This year, enrollment has increased! We have begun to focus on our early childhood education with the goal of inspiring students to begin to love learning at an early age. With this in mind, we have added all day kindergarten and implemented the Early Learning Center Preschool. During the past few years, Ashtabula Area City Schools has remained fiscally responsible, which has allowed us to bring back bussing. This has made it possible for more of our students to attend school on a regular basis, thus increasing their chance of success. We have also implemented new technology in hopes of creating more opportunities for our student to excel. The 5-year fiscal outlook ensures that Ashtabula continues to move in a positive direction.

Students, staff and community members are not the only ones recognizing the growth and success around Ashtabula. In a letter received September 24, Ashtabula Schools was commended for its positive changes by Jacqueline Gee, a graduate student in Cultural Foundations at Kent State University who holds a bachelor’s degree in education. She commended the district for continuing to inspire and promote educational achievement despite our hardships. When we receive compliments like this, it is a direct reflection of how well the entire Ashtabula staff is performing, despite the various challenges that schools and families face day to day.

When walking into one of our buildings, it is apparent there is a shared passion for learning by teachers, staff and students alike. This is one of our secrets to success. Each member of the Ashtabula Area School District are all “me’s”, but when we each do our part, we become an unstoppable force. The 2015-2016 school year is no doubt our best yet! ASHTABULA, OH and CHARLOTTE, NC– BASF Corporation and Gabriel Performance Products, LLC, a U.S. based

specialty chemical company, finalized a transaction transferring the highly recognizable Versamid trademark to

Gabriel, and exclusively licensing the polyamide curing agent technology in the U.S. Versamid polyamide curing

agents are used for two component solvent-borne epoxy applications.

“The Versamid product line is well known within the industry and this acquisition strengthens Gabriel’s position

in the epoxy curing market,” said Seth Tomasch, CEO of Gabriel Performance Products. “It is an excellent

complement to our mercaptan product line, and we look forward to serving customers who formerly looked to

BASF for epoxy curing agent solutions.”

The transaction with Gabriel follows BASF’s announcement in July that they will close the Dimer and Polyamide

Resins unit at the Kankakee, Illinois site, exit the business, and divest intellectual property including trade-

marks. BASF continues to operate the Kankakee site, which supplies products for the Nutrition and Health and

Care Chemicals Divisions of the company. BASF intends to work closely with Gabriel to transition customers

through March 2016. BASF will continue to manufacture, market and sell PUR technologies through the back

license.
