Psalm 37:5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act.
Commitment. Our lives are built on commitments. Our families, friends, work and many
other things call to us for a commitment. It’s good to be active, but what is our return for
the commitments we make? Each and every one of us are looking ahead to what 2015
will bring, and how we hope to fare in the future. But have we thought about how our
relationship with our Lord and His Body, the “Church,” fit into our commitments in the
future? Have you thought about how much of your time, talents and treasures you’re
planning to commit to next year? How important is your relationship with God to you? If
God would have committed the same time we commit to Him, where would we be? The
truthful answer is, separated from Him. What if we are committed to our families and
friends the same way we are committed to the work of the Church? What would happen?
These are all honest questions we need to ask ourselves as members of Zion. But, it is not
hopeless. God has intervened. Just as God saw our sinfulness and sent Jesus to be our
Savior, God still sends His Holy Spirit to keep us in the faith and guide us to do His will.
One can do this by taking an interest in a fellow member who has not been in church.
Statistics report that 82% of people are likely to attend church if invited by a friend or
relative. People want someone to take an interest in their lives and care about them as a
child of God. Commit yourself to bringing someone to church with you.
Participate in the many ways to serve that are offered here at Zion. To carry out our mis-
sion and ministry requires a substantial financial commitment. As we head into this year
the leadership of the congregation is discussing opportunities for increased commitments
from the members. If each member increases their giving five to ten dollars a week (the
cost of a meal at McDonalds, or a soda a day for a week), we would have the opportuni-
ties to grow the mission. As God says in Malachi 3: “Bring the whole tithe into the store-
house, that there may be food in my house. ‘Test me in this,’ says the Lord
Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so
much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’” When there are activities,
commit to support them. Look for ways to increase opportunities for commitment.
(Adopt-a-Student, Sunday School, Praise Team, Fair, Golf and many others). God,
through His Holy Spirit, calls us to renew our commitment to Him. Hear His Word and
believe what He says; because the Lord of the Church is the Lord of the Church and His
action will be a blessing to you and Zion, as we commit ourselves to each other and to
the Lord.
Committed to Him,

Kindergarten News...
Our class has had a very busy fall. We went to the Yellow Smoke Nature Center to see animal tracks and signs of fall.
Then we went to visit the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines to observe animals and their habitats at the zoo. We all really
like animals. We also count them for math, read about them in our reading class and write sentences about them.
November was great fun learning about the pilgrims and the native friends that helped them to learn how to live here in
America. We learned two Thanksgiving songs and some poems to perform for our Grandparent guests after lunch on
November 25th. We dressed as pilgrims and natives that day so we could act out the story of the first Thanksgiving in
the morning before our guests arrived! We praised God for all our blessings of home, school and country! Our focus is
now on Advent to prepare our hearts for the birthday celebration of our Lord and Savior, Jesus!

Choir Notes... Happy New Year from your Zion choir! Practices will resume on Wednesday, January 7th at 7:30 p.m. in the church
basement. If one of your resolutions for 2015 is to get more involved at Zion, and if you’ve been musically blessed, then
choir is for you! We especially need mens’ voices (tenor and bass).
This month you’ll hear choir at the January 11th and 18th worship services. The first selection is “We Are Singing for
the Lord is Our Light,” which is actually an Afr ican melody. The following Sunday the selection is “To Thee, My
Heart I Offer,” which is a type of round, and perfect for the Epiphany season. Both of these songs are from our
files. I have received lots of spring choral anthem sample CD’s and music these past few months. So I will be looking to
purchase some new Lenten and Easter choir music. Because of those who remember
choir with memorials and gifts, it is possible to do this (without hitting up the general
fund!). Thank you!
Also, thank you for the many comments of gratitude for our choir concert last month. I’m
proud to say that every choir member was present for all three worship services. We
always feel privileged to enhance the Scripture readings in song!

Pastor Kaiser read the Christmas story. We had 16
members and 6 guest present. The November minutes
were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given
with a balance of $1,868.93. Marie sent 1 get well card, 1
birthday card and 2 thank you cards. She also reported that
they would have sewing on Mondays the next couple of
weeks. Susan reported that there $7.01 in the Kitchen
Fund. Marion and Pat reported no funeral lunches, and
they had 5 Eventide bingo helpers. The December work
committee will be Pat and Susan. Marion read “Christmas
Shallow or Christmas Deep” from Christian Life and
reported $54.50 for mites in November. Marion visited
Anna Harm and Susan visited Shirley Jensen at Eventide.
December birthdays are Clara Hoffmeier and Helen
McCoid. Anniversaries are Lorraine and Norman
Christiansen and Pat and Mark Jorgensen. We will be
assembling newsletters on December 23rd at 1:00. In
December, we will give $25 to the Sunday School, Zion
School, Pastor Kaiser and Pastor Sewing, $20 to the 2
secretaries and 2 janitors and $50 to Eventide. Susan
thanked Corinne, Shirley and Bea for setting up for our
Christmas lunch. The January serving committee will be
Gen and Pat. We closed with the Lord’s Prayer. We had a
drawing for 4 centerpieces, 2 bouquets of flowers, sang
Christmas carols and had a gift exchange.
Evening Guild by Marcella Schneller , Secretary
We met on December 4th. Before our meeting began, we
had our Christmas meal. We had 21 members and 10
guests present. Pastor Kaiser opened with the Christmas
story and a prayer. We served roast beef, and all of the
members brought a cold or a hot dish. Pastor Sharp and his
wife spoke about their upcoming mission trip to Uruguay.
Reports were given and approved. We voted and approved
to move our next meeting from January 1st to January 8th.
The December resource center workers are Edrie on the
7th, Deb Green on the 14th, Betty Bilsten on the 21st,
UnaBell Frehse on the 28th and Marcella on January 4th.
Edrie asked if we wanted to move our book store account
to Crawford County Bank from Wells Fargo. It was
seconded and approved. We have a few large and small
apple pies left to sell. Eventide Bake Sale will be held on
December 16th from 9am to 1pm. Edrie Wellendorf
(president) and Marcella Schneller (Secretary) will be
retiring on December 31st. Deb Green will be the new

UnaBell Frehse on the 26th and Janice Weltz on the 27th.
December anniversaries are Richard and Arlene Wessel on
the 12th, Chuck and Roxana Duncan on the 18th and Ter-
ry and Judy Blunk on the 20th. Meeting was
adjourned. We sang some Christmas carols and exchanged
gifts. Wishing and praying everyone has a safe and blessed
Christmas and New Year!
Operation Barnabas by Carol Segebar t, Secretary
We met November 17th. Minutes were read and approved.
Financial report was given with a balance of $2,307.43. A
donation was made to Moving Veteran’s Forward for
$500. There was some discussion regarding the change in
donations from the door offering. Because there wasn’t a
need for the catechisms, the committee decided to donate
to the Moving Veteran’s Forward organization. Carol will
contact the office to get a notice in bulletin to inform the
congregation of this change. George Salmon will continue
to serve as president next year, Carol as secretary and
Lanette as treasurer. We agreed to get pictures of those
service men and women that have died in service over this
last year and make ornaments to decorate a Christmas tree
during the Festival of Trees. We will plan to put these
together at our next meeting on December 8th. Susan will
bring pictures and Pam will bring supplies. We will all
bring snacks for a Christmas celebration.

MY TYSON CHAPLAINCY AT THE PLANT
IN DENISON:
What’s new at Tyson? Lots of new improvements. But the
greatest blessing at Tyson is the privilege I have to serve the
spiritual needs of the plant workers. Last month, Simon came to
me at break time and asked me to pray for him and his family.
After 20 years of marriage, he is going through a divorce and
doesn’t feel like there is a chance of reconciliation. He was very
anxious. So we prayed right in the busy hallway that God in His
mercy would guide, comfort and strengthen Simon through his
work and through this difficult family time.

PLEASE PRAY: In thanksgiving for our annual Unity joint worship service. For the honor of
serving Advent services at the churches in Kiron and Deloit. For God’s
Christmas blessings as we worship the Christ Child with special services. In
thanksgiving for our Hispanic voters as we finalize the
process of
affiliating with the Iowa District West-LCMS. For my
work as a Chaplain at Tyson and for opportunities to
share the Gospel in the workplace. In thanksgiving for
the mission hearts of the many individuals and congrega-
tions of the Iowa District West who monthly support the
Lord’s work among Hispanic immigrants in Denison and
in our other 3 Hispanic missions.

(Above) ANNUAL UNITY/
THANKSGIVING SERVICE:
For the 7th year, our Iowa District West
Hispanic congregations have met to worship
together on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
This year for the first time, our 4th Hispanic
church from Des Moines joined us. It was a
joy- filled day with more than 75 in attend-
ance. In the past we have been blessed to meet
at Trinity in Odebolt, but this year we met at
Zion in Manning as it is now more central. We
gathered to celebrate our united faith in the
Lutheran Reformation with song and worship.
Rev. Eric Moeller of Storm Lake was the
preacher of the day. Pastors Lincon Guerra of
Des Moines, Henry Witte of Sioux City and
myself of Denison were the liturgists. Pastor
Witte and I played our brass instruments and
our choir from Denison sang: “Amigos en
Cristo”. We thank Zion of Manning for their
hospitality and support and hope we can con-
tinue this special annual tradition in the future.
(Below) OUR VOTERS ARE MOVING
FORWARD:
Our new church: Amigos en Cristo Evangelical
Lutheran Church is moving forward to become
part of the Iowa District West, LCMS. Last month
our members met twice to consider our new
Constitution, a budget for 2015, and our future
together. Our newly elected officers are from left:
Adriana Mendoza (Financial Secretary), Jose
Mendoza (President, holding a copy of the
Constitution), myself, Paula Vogel (Secretary),
Marcia Mendoza (Treasurer, holding a copy of the
Iowa Articles of Incorporation). This is a special
moment for our Hispanic ministry. For our
Hispanic immigrants, this process is a major
historic effort for each of them. Please pray for
our brothers and sisters in Christ as we move
forward in 2015.

MISSIONARIES SCHULLERS:
Last month, our friends Pastor Rick and Gema
Schuller of Houston, Texas came to visit
Mission Central as they prepare to serve as
missionaries to Puerto Rico. They spent the
week with us. Here we are at St. John’s in
Kiron for the Advent service. They also helped
us with our Posada service. Pastor Rick and
Gema have more than 30 years of mission
experience in the U.S. and foreign fields. God
bless and keep the Schullers.
(At left) ADVENT/POSADA
TIME: Our unique Hispanic Ad-
vent home celebrations began last
month at the home (the Posada) of
Alejandro and Faviola Orizaba. We
sang, we read God’s Word in
Spanish and English (for the
children), and of course we ate
great food. Each week, we will fill
the home of a family from our
church to tell the true story of the
coming of the Savior. This makes
Christmas a special time as we
remember Joseph and Mary seek-
ing refuge in Bethlehem and in our
hearts.
!FELIZ ANO NUEVO!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
To all of our prayer partners we thank
you for another year of support and
blessings. As we enter our 11th year of
ministry, we pray God’s grace and
blessings as together we share the
Gospel of Jesus’ love for all the world.
