A Few Local Resources for Seniors AGE FRIDENDLY COMMUNITIES In 2014 Kitimat was recognized as an  Age-Friendly Community! Our Age- Friendly Community Committee meets once a month to continue the work needed to be Age-Friendly. The meetings from this minute are available to everyone and are posted at the Kitimat Seniors’ Centre. In Age-Friendly Communities—Seniors are supported to age actively, enjoy good health, remain independent, and remain in their community People of all ages and abilities benefit from a safer, barrier -free buildings and streets, better access to local businesses & facilities, and more green spaces.  The community benefits from the increased participation of older adults in community life. If you are interested in participating in this committee, or would like to share some suggestions on how Kitimat could improve itself for aging, please let us know. Contact Mary Murphy, Chairperson, at 250 632 5201  The Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) program, from BC Housing, helps make rents affordable for BC seniors with low to moderate incomes. SAFER provides monthly cash payments to subsidize rents for eligible BC residents who are age 60 or over and who pay rent for their homes. For further information please contact the Kitimat Housing Resource Project @ 250-639-6065 Better at Home provides a range of non- medical home support services in Kitimat. Home services vary from community to community. They are designed to complement existing services and are based on the unique needs of local seniors. Oh what fun we had at our

2 14 Christmas Party … 

The evening turned out to be a fantastic party,

filled with lots of laughter, happiness, singing,

dancing and humour. 

Many, many thanks to all the people who were

involved with preparations and helped make

this year’s party such a big success. 

Special thanks to Fran, Bill, Edwin, the elves,

the singers, dancers, Earl Keller, and the

helpers on Tuesday night—a great job well

done! 

Thank you very much to these people, with

out their help it would not have been possible. 

 A great big thank you to my friends, Ester and

Jingles. Thank you to the Luso Staff for an

excellent meal and donation of the hall.

taking card game.  The game isplayed in Portugal,  Brazil and
