Season's Greetings from BACOA Season's Greetings Wishing you happiness & childlike joy and innocence this Holiday Season and healthy aging in the New Year. from all of us at your Barrington Area Council on Aging 2014 has been a successful year of growth and renewed programs and services for BACOA. Our recent Christmas Luncheon at the Barrington Park District, featured a delicious holiday meal, served by dedicated volunteers, musical entertainment, and a visit from Santa, It reminded me of the childlike innocence of the season. It was not only the young grandchild who was wide eyed as he dove into Santa's lap, but the many seniors who also wanted to greet Santa, in between singing familiar carols and tunes from their own childhood. The energy and excitement provided a great way to celebrate the work of BACOA, made possible by so many incredibly generous volunteers, individuals, families, businesses, and foundations.

2014 has been a successful year of growth and renewedprograms and services for BACOA.

Our recent Christmas Luncheon at the Barrington Park District, featured adelicious holiday meal, served by dedicated volunteers, musicalentertainment, and a visit from Santa, It reminded me of the childlikeinnocence of the season. It was not only the young grandchild who was wideeyed as he dove into Santa's lap, but the many seniors who also wanted togreet Santa, in between singing familiar carols and tunes from their ownchildhood. The energy and excitement provided a great way to celebrate thework of BACOA, made possible by so many incredibly generous volunteers,individuals, families, businesses, and foundations.

This year has seen the continuation of so many wellreceived programs andservices, just like the Monday luncheons and game time. We have been ableto start new programs, like our day respite program in partnership withLutheran Church of Atonement, and even expand it because of the needs offamily caregivers We have secured participation of all the villages in our areain the critical transportation program offered through PACE. Our team hasoffered wellreceived educational programs to equip caregivers withpowerful tools, endless hours of social services to tackle daily issues forseniors, assistance with income taxes, and especially health insurance andMedicare enrollment. Support groups have flourished to guide folks throughthe challenges of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. And we have beentreated to beautiful fashions and caregiver stories to help us remember thechallenges, and also the rewards of aging. And yet the need for programscontinues.

Because of the success of events like BrewFest and The BACOA Bash, andthe generousness of individuals, family trusts, foundations, localorganizations like the Barrington Area Community Foundation and UnitedWay, just to name a few, BACOA has been able to provide these vitalservices.

Part of the joy of this holiday season is that like the child's eagerness atseeing Santa, BACOA continues to be able to meet the needs of seniors,caregivers, and the community because of the joyous embrace of generouspeople who partner with us to continue our delivery of services. For this, weare thankful.

And if you would like to continue this joyous embrace, please consider ayearend donation. We'll spread the joy even further.

Great News for YearEnd Charitable Contributions for Those Over AgeSeventy! The IRA Charitable Rollover Provision has been renewed and appliedretroactively for 2014. This is a great benefit for certain qualified donorswho want to make a contribution to the Barrington Area Council onAging (BACOA) by December 31, 2014. On December 16, 2014, the Senate passed the Tax Increase PreventionAct of 2014 (HR 5771), which included an extension of the IRA

Charitable Rollover provision through December 31, 2014. The Housepassed the Act earlier and President Obama signed it into law December19th. Here is how it works: Donors age 70 1/2 and older may transfer up to$100,000 from their traditional or Roth IRAs directly to qualified publiccharities without incurring any federal income taxes on the transfers.Unlike typical IRA withdrawals, these transfers are excluded from thedonor's adjusted gross income. In other words, donors can make theirgifts go further and meet the tax code requirements for minimum annualdistributions from their IRAs. These benefits are available to taxpayerseven if they do not itemize their tax returns. This provision provides an excellent way to give directly to BACOA. Weencourage you to contact your IRA administrators or an accountantimmediately if you are considering such a gift as it may take time tocomplete this process by December 31, 2014. The Act does not provide agrace period for transfers after December 31. Unfortunately, thisprovision has yet not been extended into 2015. Thank you for your continued support of BACOA's mission to serveseniors, family caregivers, and the community. Please call JoycePalmquist or Christopher Mitchell at 8473815030 if you have anyquestions about how you can support BACOA with your yearendcharitable giving.  ====================================================This message is for information only and is not meant to provide tax orlegal advice. Please consult a qualified tax, accounting, or legalprofessional for your specific situation.
