recent months by the destructive behavior ofseveral young men in our community, and we

passionately agree with Jeffs observations andencouragement!

When the Broncos and the Seahawks take the field onSuper Bowl Sunday, new heroes will arise and old he-roes will be celebrated. Boys will run out to buy jerseys,sneakers and posters emblazoned with the names ofManning, Wilson and Thomas. Theyll fall asleep dream-ing of growing up to be just like them.

I love football. It has been part of my life since the mo-ment of my birth. My father was a s tar quarterback for theBuffalo Bills. Both my brother and I followed in his foot-steps to play professionally. I spent a decade as a quar-terback in the NFLfive of those years as a Seahawk. Iloved the game. I still do.

But, honestly, Id rather boys find their heroes at the din-ner table rather than on the football field. America needsmen who are stars in their own homeseven if theycant throw a pass or make a tackle.

Legions of today's social problems trace to the lack ofreal men, faithful husbands and dedicated fathers. Manymen are committed and noble, but far too many havewalked away from the responsibilities and joys of servingtheir family.

For the unmarried guys and distracted husbands who doremain at home, many function as little more than over-grown boys, passing their responsibility off to overworkedmothers.

When men check out of their duties and roles in the family,not only do they do a disservice to their families, they actu-ally are thwarting their own potential for greatness.

You see, men have an inborn desire for greatness, but that

desire is a constant target for hijacking. All sorts of mes-sages are telling men they can find that greatness by mas-tering the latest video game, having the champion FantasyFootball team or reaching a certain number of Twitter fol-lowers.

Men need to come back to reality and be team leaders intheir own world. They need pull away from fantasy andstop avoiding commitment. Real success cant be found bypushing family aside in favor of selfish pursuits.

The reality is, while few little boys will grow up to be foot-ball stars, every son can grow up to be an honorable hus-band, father and citizen.

The ingredients that make up a super husband and fatherare no different than what goes into a Super Bowl cham-pion. They include a vision of the goal, a dedicated com-mitment and the game plan to build a successful team.

Champions are also resilient. They know an occasionalbad play is part of the game but not an excuse to quit play-ing. And heroes on and off the field know humility is a vitalpart of long-term success, because true champions sacri-fice for each other and the good of the team.

Some young men spend hours each week learning to beaccomplished athletes, others to become expert gamers.But too few menyoung or oldare making the most cru-cial time investmentlearning to be honorable men.(continued on next page!)

Doug was recently diagnosed with Obstructive SleepApnea (OSA) following a second sleep study. Please

pray that this condition can be fixed immediately witha CPAP, and that the adjustment period is short.

Jennifer is looking forward to her first moms week-end getaway in almost 3 years! Pray for a time ofrefreshment and rejuvenation!
