As I sit here writing this letter, we are all preparing to go to Winter Event. It is Thursday morning at 3:00am
and I am at work. I have so much to do today to get things ready to leave Friday morning. Try to get everything
we need for the Chapter to be in order for the GREAT FUN we are going to have. Sandy Hayes our MEC has
been very busy also, getting things together. She has done a GREAT JOB as the MEC and just think, a year
ago, we tried to get her to join just to do the newsletter and she didn’t want to. Boy has she come around. Our
Chapter is very Proud of her for jumping in and not only taking the newsletter over, but also the MEC and go-ing out and buying a Trike and learning to ride it in a couple of months. She is all about GWRRA!
By the time you read this, Winter Event will be history for this year. Boy did we have a BLAST. All the
GWRRA friends we have across the state have come together for a GREAT BIG PARTY again. As usual these
folks were going to have FUN and FUN it was. If you missed this, you missed it, but wait; we still have Spring
Fling coming up in the near future. District Staff has put their self out again. They have done an Awesome Job
and there’s more to come. So, check out the District Calendar and mark your calendars for all the events that
are forthcoming. Chapter TN-N is going to be involved in a lot of classes and events this year, so look for us
coming down the road.
Chapter TN-N did it again, we brought home 5 Plaques and 2 Certificates. Talking about being SURPRIZED!
We had the Best Costume Chapter, Best Individual Costume, Second Place Best Mascot, Webmaster of
the Year and Largest Chapter Attendance. Sandy Hayes had the 4th Quarter Newsletter and Eldon
Seaton had the 2nd Quarter Recruiting. You know, even if we had not taken anything, we had FUN and we
know that we would have gone away with that! Any time you can have FUN you are always a winner.
On Jan. 28th we traveled to Chapter Q’s meeting trying to get the West/Middle Tennessee Traveling Plaque, but came up short. Chapter Y had the winning ticket. As usual we had a Great Time and FUN. We still went
home as a Winner because we had a good time. I was volunteered for the Solo Cup shoot-out with Ed Grazier.
Now that was FUN!
On Feb. 2nd we will be giving away the Tennessee Traveling Plaque at our meeting. It will be fun and we
guarantee that you will not be disappointed so we hope to see you there. On Feb. 9th we will be hosting a
Medic First Aid/CPR Class, Co-Rider and some other classes. So, if you can come, we would love to have
you. Class will start at 8:00 AM; come early and have a good breakfast at the Old Country Store.
Don’t forget Spring Fling coming up. You will want to get registered before the 5th of April, which is the
deadline for early registration. Let’s all go have some of the BEST FUN you will ever have. The District Staff
has worked very hard on this one and it is going to be AWESOME!
Until then,
Ride Safe, Ride Often, Have Fun
Way to go TN-N. We had 23 members gathered for Winter Fest and everyone
looked like we just stepped out of the Great American Train Robbery movie.

Well, I am sitting here trying to get this done before the dead line. Here it is the end of January, and it seems
like it was just Christmas. This is going to be a fast year. Wonder what the Ground Hog is going to see?
So let me think—in January we have had the Polar Bear Run, our regular meeting, a trip to Columbia’s meet-
ing and won some wood to be given away at our February meeting. Then we went to Clarksville’s meeting and had
a good supper but we did not win the wood there. Debbie and I rode the Trike and had great weather both ways.
We all went to Winter Fest and boy did we have fun or what. Last year we thought it was amazing that we could win what we did; but this year was even better. We came away with 5 plaques and 2 certificates. We even won the
last quarter for the Newsletter. Thanks Sandra, for doing a great job! And what did Joe do? He came away with
WEB MASTER of the year. This was his very first year at doing our web page and he won the coveted award. Great
job Joe!
If you have not looked at the pictures on the WEB, you are missing a lot of good memories. We all looked so
good in our outfits. Tony now has a picture of himself and his wild bunch. Check Nolan out, (Billy The Kid), look-
ing good. He may have to shave now.
I don’t know how we could have had any more fun than we did, but look out Spring Fling, here we come.
Got to go—looking forward to seeing everyone at February meeting to welcome some other chapters who are com-
ing to get some wood.
Ride A Lot, Be Safe, Have Fun
Best of the Best
Debbie and Nolan take
their luck to the game tables.
Two bank robbers elude sheriff’s posse and then stops for pictures. Risky?
Everyone gathers to enjoy picture memories of the year. Smiles makes it worth it all.
Horse gets away from Eldon and he tries to rein it in. Nolan waits his turn to ride into the
sunset.

RIDER ED ‘GIMME 5’
TOPIC: Why Should I Take a Rider Course?
This question is one that many of us find easy to answer. What we may not understand is
why anyone would need to ask it. There are some riders in each of our chapters that choose not
to participate in an instructed Rider Course. Let’s examine this and try to understand why, and look at what a Rider Course can do for you.
Some may say, “I’ve been riding for years. I don’t need to take a class.” Others will boast about the miles they
have accumulated on two wheels and ask “what can they teach me?” Have you ever tried to persuade someone
with that attitude that a Rider Course might help them be an even better rider? Their position can be so negative
and so strongly put that you don’t want to talk to them about the benefits of rider training. Sometimes, people
hide their self doubt behind a curtain of confidence and bluster. Is it possible to have all the knowledge and skill
necessary to avoid any accident? Well, if one chooses not to ride very far or very often, then perhaps it is possible.
But I wouldn’t want to bet my life on it!
Do you remember a single season in your riding career without at least one close call or near miss due to an-
other motorist’s driving behavior? How about a single month? If you ride around the state or across the country,
you expose yourself to many different situations that require anticipation of all the possible actions of other driv-
ers. You have to be prepared to counter with the proper response – whatever their action – and do it in a split sec-
ond! A motorcycle Rider Course helps prepare you mentally and physically to execute the kinds of maneuvers
called for by a driver’s unexpected actions. We look upon these classes as an opportunity to learn and improve
our riding skills in a safe environment.
The instructors are trained to spot the little techniques during range exercises that riders tend to forget to em-ploy on the road. They provide reminders to all students in a positive manner. Their trained eyes and constructive
comments are geared to put each of us on the path to being the safest riders we can be. This can help with your
attitude and performance on the road. Being reminded of the best techniques to execute different skills does not
hurt at all. It is painless. The practice and coaching helps to improve our skills, whether we never knew the tech-
nique to use, or just need the occasional reminder. Hey, who doesn’t appreciate a reminder from time to time?
Especially when it is about something you want to do correctly and safely, but may have just forgotten the best
method.
In athletic training we are taught that practice makes perfect. And when you practice something you enjoy
doing, it’s just a lot of fun! Practicing motorcycle riding maneuvers in a closed parking lot with someone else (the
instructors) monitoring the range to protect the riders from outside hazards helps you focus your attention on the
task at hand – becoming a better rider!
On another level, taking a Rider Course will help you qualify for advancement in the Rider Education Levels Pro-
gram, to Level II or above, or keep you current in your present level. And there is one more thing to remember
about all GWRRA Rider Course offerings. Nobody fails! Everyone who completes the course receives a course com-
pletion card. There are no minimum performance requirements. You are asked to push yourself to improve your abilities. You won’t get better at it if you don’t try. Sign
up for a Rider Course today. You will thank
yourself later!

Greetings from the Horse Farm. Let me give my fellow Goldwingers a word of advice. If you don’t raise
horses now—don’t start. One or two head is fun but when you get 10 it becomes a real job. Pictures of my horse
adventures will follow.
Chapter N has been busy for a winter month. Our Polar Bear Run was attended by almost all our members.
We celebrate New Years with members of Christian Motorcycle Association. This year we had some of the West
Tennessee Riders group to also share a FUN time at the Old Country Store.
Our meeting room was full for the January Gathering. Tony had to leave early to go to work so Sandy took
over and explained our new contest and got everyone excited about Winter Event.
The very next week we went to Chapter Z—Columbia to capture the Mid-Tennessee Traveling Plaque.
Sat. Jan.19, we worked on the chapter scrapbook. We had a good time just looking at the pictures. Sandy
made chili for our lunch and we had a great time.
Now we are on our way to Winter Event. TN District Chapters watch out, Chapter N is on the move AGAIN.
Part of the horses got out of the
corral. We tied these to the hitchin’
post while we looked for the rest of the horses.
Great American Train Robbery with Train Patron-Diane and
Desperado Avery. Wanted—Desperado. Mean look-ing and could be dangerous. Last
seen riding away on his horse and waving his gun wildly in the
air.
Fun at Polar Bear Run. It was cold.
Avery and Tony visiting at Chapter Z while everyone finishes dinner.

Didn’t you have fun this month? Chapter N packed a lot of fun into a lot of activities. We kicked the month off
with our annual Polar Bear Run. It was a cold day but two trikes braved the cold and made the way from Parsons
to Jackson. Boy was it fun. I made my first Polar Bear Run on my trike! Eldon led the way. We shared the Polar
Run Day with the Christian Motorcycle Association. With the prayer for the meal, we also received the annual
“blessing of the bikes”. I have my sticker proudly displayed on my trike. Have I told everyone that I LOVE my
trike!! Chapter N makes the meeting with 21 members, 2 guests and the members of the Christian Motorcycle Association.
At monthly gathering you will have to imagine the game we played (oops, someone didn’t get pictures). Two
basketball goals we attached to Preacher’s and Reginald’s head. Precious and Shari then attempted to toss the
balls into the goals. Way to go Precious—you’re the winner. Some would say that she kept moving the starting
line. We had special quests for the evening that included 2 visitors from the Christian Motorcycle Association and
3 visitors from Chapter Q. Special recognition to Dennis and Jan Peterson-Couple of the Year for Chapter Q.
Way to go chapter; we had 26 members present for the meeting.
January 12th took our members to Columbia to “chase some wood-The Tennessee Traveling Plaque”. And
what would you know—we came back with it. A total of 10 members traveled to Chapter Z.
Winter Fest started was on January 26th with Leadership Training on January 27th. Chapter N was ready for
this FUN. We won 5 awards including largest attendance. I am so proud of Chapter N. You guys rock!! We had
23 members attend Winter Fest. And what makes that incredible is that we average 26 at monthly gatherings.
Almost all members were able to attend Winter Fest. Way to go!!!
We closed the month with another chapter visit to Chapter Q, Clarksville, in hopes of bringing the Mid-dle/West Tennessee Traveling Plaque back to rest with the Tennessee Traveling Plaque. But it was not to happen
on this visit. Chapter Y walked away with the plaque. However, Tony, Sandy, Gerry, Thomina, Eldon, Debbie,
James Rosenthal, Jeff and Bill Henson attended the meeting. James Rosenthal is a new member and his
very first meeting was the visit to Chapter Q. Way to go James!!!
I have prepared picture pages on all the visiting. You are gonna love this!

From the desk of Jacob Seaton:
Hello everybody. We got Christmas over and had to go back to school. It’s not too bad though, we were out for
bad weather and then we got out for the flooding.
I have not been doing much, sitting around the house playing games. Hayley got her Driver’s license and Mom
is making me ride with her back and forth to school. If she does anything wrong, I will tell Dad. She is going to
mess up and then I can get what I want from her. HAHA!
Just a small note from Hayley Seaton.
I hated that I missed the first meeting of the year, but I am a Cheerleader for Riverside and we had a Basket-
ball game that I had to go to. Pepaw said we missed a great time. You saw Jacob’s note about my diver’s license. I
am so excited. My 16th birthday was perfect. Out to dinner with all my family, whipped crème in the face and
my diver’s license, too.
Hope to see all of you at the February meeting. Now for a picture I hope you like and one great sign that I like.
Check this out:
I like my football.
But I LOVE my iPhone!!
Somehow my feet seem to get all tangled
up. It used to bother me but then I found
this wonderful sign. So me, don’t you
think?

WELL CHAPTER MEMBERS, I HAD A GREAT TIME AT WINTER FEST. YOU KNOW, NOT MANY YOUNG TEEN-
AGERS GET TO DO WHAT I AM GETTING TO DO, AND THAT IS GETTING TO TRAVEL AND HAVE FUN. GET-
TING TO GO TO ALL OF THE EVENTS THAT I GET TO ATTEND WILL HELP ME AS I GROW UP TO BE A PER-
SON.
DID ANY OF YOU GET ANY DAMAGE FROM THE STORM? WE DIDN’T, BUT IT WAS SURE LUCK. WE GOT
OUT OF SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE OF TREES DOWN. WE WERE OUT OF LIGHTS FOR 2 DAYS. WE
EVEN GOT OUT OF SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE SNOW.
HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU AT THE NEXT MEETING. HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE. SUBMITTED BY NOLAN.
JUST A LITTLE JOKE FOR THE DAY.
NOLAN NATION
Horse races. Nolan gets a little late start and never catches up
with Eldon. Ride ‘em cowboy.
Eldon waits for others as every-
one arrives for the Polar Bear
Run. Only two trikes braved the
cold on January 1, 2013. Yep!
Eldon and Nolan was one of them.

Best of the Best of Monthly Gathering
Al you should know by now that if you do not come to Jeff on the prizes, he will come to
you!! I think that was a bottle of shampoo. HA!
Janet is the first recipient of the coveted Deer Poop Award. Let’s
see, you backed into a vehicle in your driveway. It was Don’s. And
you have a back up camera on your car. Yep!!! Good job. Enjoy your
deer poop award.
Eldon decided to get in on the hugs before Jeff. Debbie had a winning
ticket in the prize drawing.
Janet, is Jeff trying to say your are tall? He does not skip ANY hugs.
I think Reginald is a winner. But Jeff is hanging on for dear
life.
Kim says, “Oh no”. I didn’t really have that next winning num-
ber. “Thanks Reginald for telling on me.”
We have a lot of fun and when we are not having fun, we are visiting with members.
No, we do not allow visiting chapters to get out of
the fun hugs at the ticket drawings. Did you have
fun Jan?

We can understand Jeff’s antics but that’s a Couple of
the Year and the current Assistant District Director.
Chapter N Captures The Tennessee Travel-ing Plaque with 10 in attendance. Yes, I
said 10—the other 2 (Shari and Shannon) were out shopping. Hmmm!
Chapter N travels to Chapter Q’s gathering
but could not capture the Middle/West Ten-
nessee Traveling Plaque. The Spoils
went to Chapter Y.
Cool Hand Luke (Jeff) with Diane and Avery at Chapter Z. Was that Avery telling Jeff to get his own chair?
Mary is not sure what this
is. Jeff caught her by surprise.
Jeff just being his cool self while visiting with other members.
How did these three get up here first? Noth-ing camera shy about Jeff, Tony and Nolan.
Tony and Ed “volunteered” to play Red Solo Cups. Those
rubber bands just did not get the job done. But Tony won.

Shannon, now what was this called again? Do you give lessons. This looks like a talking chicken doing the twist. She had is down pat and boy was she having the time of her life.
Look folks, we will show you one more time. It is as easy as one, two, three.
Now do you have it? Let’s try it again. What, no takers?
Now I think I know where Shannon gets her dance talent.
I could not get the picture with Jeff
doing the floor moves. These two are having fun. Way to go Shari.
This started out as a line dance. Then something went terribly wrong. No Jeff,
it was . . . Left, Left, Left.
This is Chapter N having FUN!!
Tony and Kim on the floor during the line dance.
Line dancing was popular with Chapter N.
Teo had no problem on the dance floor either. And Tony was all over
the floor with all the dances and the rest of Chapter N.

Getting To Know You
Gold Wing Road Riders Association TN-N
My name is Oliver Welch, “Big O” to my friends, and I want to tell you a little about myself. This idea of
sharing little known facts about each of our members is a great idea that will allow us to get to know more
about each other in Chapter N. So I will start with a little about my roots.
I am one of those individuals who has lived all their life in the town where they were born and raised. My
home has always been in Trenton, TN, where I still live today. I have put in my time working and have been
retired for the last seven years. Now I spend time with family and with having fun with my Trike.
My first Goldwing is the Trike I now own, which is a 1999 Goldwing Trike. I have put quite a few miles on
my Trike and my favorite trip was to Olympia, Washington.
I became a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) in 2011, when I also joined our own
Chapter N.
I am married to Gattie Welch and we have two children. Our children are grown and live here in Trenton as
well. Some of our favorite hobbies other than riding motorcycles include fishing and hunting.
Gattie and I have been very active since joining Chapter N and have participated in my activities and road
trips to other chapters. But one of my favorite memories since joining GWRRA is Chapter N’s Fun Day of 2012.

News From Region N
Alan and Carolyn Little have known each other since high school. They grew up about
eight miles apart in rural North Carolina, some thirty miles east of Charlotte. Carolyn
says she was smitten when she saw Alan driving his big red Farmall tractor through
downtown Oakboro. They were married in 1969 and have two beautiful daughters (and
two fairly good looking sons-in-law). They’ve been blessed with five drop-dead gorgeous
and sweet granddaughters, ages 8-16. The one relation-ship they fight hard to main-tain is the one they have with those little (and not so little) girls who call them Poppy
and Nana. The Little’s introduction to GWRRA began in 2002 when they joined North
Carolina Chapter T-2, located in Albemarle. They instantly felt at home with these wonderful people, and knew
they wanted to spend more time with them!
Sometimes it seems like a blessing, and sometimes it seems like a curse, but their involvement in anything
they hold dear almost always leads to a total commitment. This has been a part of their character, even before
GWRRA. They noticed that the people who seem to “get more out of” anything are the folks who go “all-in”. They
are both Level 4 in the Rider Education Program, as well as Rider Ed Seminar Presenters. They have also both at-
tained Master University Trainer status, and are OCP Trainers. This past October, Alan was recognized as the
2012 Region N Trainer of the year.
Alan and Carolyn were chosen as NC T-2’s Chapter Couple of The Year in 2007. They were selected as the NC
District Couple of The Year for 2007-2008, Region N Couple of The Year for 2008-2009, and International Couple
of The Year for 2009-2010. For the last two years, they’ve served North Carolina as District Trainers.
Their history includes 23 years in the United States Air Force / NC Air National Guard. Alan retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was employed in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System as the Electronics Department
Supervisor and later with the Stanly County School System, where he worked as a Computer / Electronics Tech-
nician, retiring in 2009. He loves gardening, yard work and ‘playing’ on his tractor. Also, target shooting is a sweet
release!
Carolyn worked in the Stanly County Tax Assessor’s office as a Personal Property Supervisor until she retired
this past July. She loves scrapbooking their family and travel photos, and thinking of projects for her husband to
take care of! Her real joy is spending time in the mall with her girls. She and Alan are involved in the music pro-
gram and other activities in their church.
They own and enjoy riding their black 2002 Goldwing, which was driven by NASCAR driver Lake Speed in the Kyle
Petty Ride Across America in 2002.

For upcoming events, visit TN GWRRA (http://www.tngwrra.org/ District Website) or GWRRA (www.gwrra.org/ National Website) to see what is going on in the near future.
Take time to read the other Chapter Newsletters, they are full of information and fun to read. It keeps you in-
formed of what is going on in the other Chapters.
Bob’s House of Honda in Jackson, TN. and Joe’s Cycle Shop in Bolivar, TN. are very supportive of Chapter TN-
N. If you are a GWRRA member and need something, be sure to tell them. They will give you a discount on
anything you buy, but tell them before they ring you up. Let’s support these businesses!
For upcoming events, if you want to see a flyer or registration form, visit
www.tngwrra.org, all flyers and registration forms are on the Events Calendar.
Program Details:
• For every five new memberships you recruit (households), you will receive a gift certificate with the
equivalent value of a Family Membership - $55.
• You must recruit new memberships only, not renewals. Each membership (household) counts as “ONE”
regardless of the number of family members in the membership. (They will however, count under the Find
-A-Friend pin and T-shirt program.)
• Gift certificates are non-transferable and will have a one year expiration date.
• There is no maximum number of gift certificates that can be earned.
• Free years are issued and redeemed in the form of a gift certificate that is sent by the Home Office.
• Upon achieving the count of five new memberships (households), Members have the "option" to
redeem gift certificate(s) for:
♦ GWRRA Membership Renewal
♦ GWRRA Official Merchandise
♦ Wing Ding Registration
♦ Chapter Charter Fees
• Memberships recruited during special events (mall shows, rallies, motorcycle shows, etc.) qualify for this
program.
• Life Members may use the gift certificates for GWRRA Official Merchandise, Wing Ding
Registration or Charter Fees.
• Free year’s membership may be applied toward consecutive years necessary for Life membership.
• Trial membership applications may be used for the recruiting efforts. Membership fees must be paid to
qualify for this Find-A-Friend program.
