THE SOLEMNITY OF MARY

JANUARY 1, 2017

First Reading: Numbers 6:22-27 The Lord told Aaron to bestow his blessings on the Israelites. God wanted them to know that by invoking his name they would be blessed by him.

Second Reading: Galatians 4:4-7 Paul describes how through Jesus’ birth, we have been delivered from the laws that exiled Gentiles from God’s community. Through Jesus, the Gentiles became God’s adopted sons and would receive the same blessings that the Jewish converts had been promised.

Gospel: Luke 2:16-21 The shepherds went to Bethlehem to see Jesus and immediately understood all that they had been told about him. They praised God for what they had seen, and Jesus was given the name that the angel had chosen for him.

PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO BE A PARISH MINISTER There are different gifts but the same Spirit!

We are always very grateful for the ongoing ministries of so many of the men and women and boys and girls of our parish family. Many of you have served for many years.

Right now, as we begin this new year, we are asking more of you to please consider expressing your love of God and our beautiful parish by joining the ranks of our dedicated Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Choir members and Altar Servers (Adult and school age)

Please contact our pastor, Msgr. Nevin, and let him know of your interest in one of these ministries which are all so vital to the ongoing vitality of our parish life. We will work with you in order to come up with a schedule which takes into consideration your other obligations and interests.

A REMINDER TO CELIAC SUFFERERS Please inquire about our low gluten hosts. We obtain them from the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and the hosts have a gluten content of just 0.01%. The hosts are highly acclaimed by celiac research specialists for use by all but the severest cases of celiac disease. If interested, please speak with Msgr. Nevin and, of course, consult with your own physician OUR PARISH HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE "St. Aedan's has a parish Hospitality Committee which helps set up for and provide refreshments at certain parish events. Many of you have attended some of these parish events over the past few months. This ministry has really helped foster a sense of community among the members of our parish family. If you would be interested in helping with this "sweet" ministry, please email Marie Maher at [email protected].

CHRISTMAS SEASON ENDS JANUARY 9TH FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD

Please continue to celebrate this most joyous feast by keeping your Christmas decorations up both inside and outside the house. (The live trees can go.) As Catholic-Christians we need to witness to our neighbors that we celebrate the religious season of Christmas and don’t pack our things up (like many of the stores) as soon as the commercial shopping season ends. Remember, we still celebrate Christmas until January 9th. So…Merry Christmas. _____________________________________________
