From the Director’s Desk

It gives me immense pleasure to share with you these last three months of 2016 at Janhit
Foundation. This quarter has been very lucky for the organization as there was prosperity
and happiness in the environment because of Diwali celebrations and all the other
festivities. I look forward to the other future quarters with same enthusiasm and work on
the plans laid out for the further development of the organization. I also look forward to
be more helpful to the society than I am right now.

rule of law.

improve their local environment.
-Restoring and conserving water and agricultural land alongside providing nutritious and
healthy food sustainably to both current and future generations
-Preventing and reducing pollution of natural resources, and ensuring their sustainable
use to guarantee that our environment does not pose a risk to human health, and can
sustain an appropriate and diverse wildlife.
ABOUT US:
Janhit Foundation is an independent, non-profit NGO, actively engaged in the
promotion of human welfare through environmental protection since 1998.
Our key areas of work include:
- Groundwater quality protection for human health and Provision of safe drinking water
to marginalized communities.
- Promotion of Women Empowerment and ensuring safety for women.
- Protection of river water quality for aquatic ecosystems.
- Enhancement of available water resources through water conservation measures.
- Promotion of sustainable agriculture by organic farming methods.
- Environmental education and empowerment of local communities.
- The emancipation of poverty through education and child rights for children of
marginalized communities.
Janhit Foundation undertakes this work through scientific research, campaigns,advocacy
and grass-root level community involvement.
OCTOBER 2016 8th October 2016 – Celebrating the World Wildlife Week
Wildlife week is celebrated every year in India between October 1 and October 8. The
annual theme of the campaign is to promote the preservation of Fauna in the country.
Janhit Foundation keeping in mind this important event in the country, celebrated the
wildlife week with the children at Mallu Singh Arya Inter College, Daurala on 8th
October.
Children at the inter college were given a chance to create beautiful and admirable
paintings giving the message of Save Wildlife. Prizes were distributed and the best
paintings were awarded by the Director, Janhit Foundation Mrs. Anita Rana. A Rally
Event also took place which had the goal of raising awareness to serve long-term goal of
protecting and safeguarding the interests of wildlife of the country.
The young and vibrant minds were given the message of conservation and protection of
the Fauna by highlighting the importance of conservation of wildlife and how wildlife
has always supported the existence of human beings in multiple ways. The children were
made aware of the duty and responsibility they had towards the wildlife as future
generation of the country.
23rd October 2016 – Saving the Girl Child
“BetiBachao, BetiPadhao” is a social campaign of the Government of India that aims to
address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio in the country. The main objective of this
initiative is to Celebrate the Girl Child and promote her Education. Janhit Foundation is
one NGO that works in spreading this government initiative among the masses of the
country.
On October 23rd, Janhit Foundation held a program in which the rural population was
made aware about the “BetiBachao, BetiPadhao” initiative. The rural population was
educated about the importance of girls and women in the development of the Indian
Society. A message was given to the people that Female Infanticide should be discouraged
and girls should be nurtured and educated without discrimination. People were motivated
to ensure the protection and empowerment of the girl child. The message that girls are
equal to boys in every sphere of life was given to encourage this thinking so that it is
inculcated by every individual.
27th October 2016 – Awareness about the Martyrs
In India, there are several days declared as Martyr’s Day. They are named in the honour
of those who are recognised as Martyrs for the nation. Janhit Foundation held the task
of educating various school children about the Martyrs, men and women who laid there
lives for the nation on 27th October. The tales of various brave-hearts were told to the
children and a feeling of Patriotism was ingrained and instilled in the young minds. The
martyrs were honoured by lighting diya in a program which was named “Ek diya
Shaheedo ke naam”.
NOVEMBER 2016 CHILDLINE SE DOSTI WEEK
DAY 1
In November, a full week was dedicated by Meerut Child line as the Child line se dosti
week. With the funding of the Rotary Club, Meerut, 30 children from slums of Tejgadhi
and Kashiram area watched the movie M.S Dhoni at PVS mall. After the show, children
had a meal at Rajbhog Hotel, Garh Road. It was a good day and they enjoyed it very
well. Child line team was involved in coordinating the whole event
DAY 2
On the second day of the Child line se dosti week, a medical camp was organized by the
Child line with the help of a hindi daily Hindustan. Doctors from the KMC Hospital
supported the cause by checking the slum children and distributed medicines to them.
Majority of the kids had hampered eyesight and bad teeth. They were advised to brush
their teeth twice a day and keep their surrounding clean. Janhit Foundation director Mrs.
Anita Rana along with her team distributed Frooti along with the medicines.
DAY 3
On the third day, a Rangoli competition was organized at the Child Line office only for
the girls from the slum. Colors for the competition were provided by the Child line and
every participant received a prize in the end to boost their morale.
DAY 4
On the forth day of childline se dosti week,Janhit foundation along with K.L.
International school and Hindustan times took 100 slum children to the school. They
played various outdoor games like football ,kho-kho, etc. The slum children got engaged
with the school children and enjoyed very much. The slu m children were also shown a
documentary film on child abuse named as ‘good touch bad touch’ this film created
awareness among the children and educated about child abuse. They were given lunch to
eat. The school children gifted clothes, books, toys and hygiene kit to slum children.
DAY 5
On the fifth day of child line se dostiweek ,Janhit foundation organize an event to
celebrate friendship day. The event was started by senior police officer Mr.RavindreGaur
who took part in this event , and slum children tied friendship band on his hand. He took
oath to fulfil his promise of friendship with the children. The children tied friendship
band on development officer Vishakji and in return he signed the oath of friendship.
DAY 6
On the sixth day, Meerut Childline along with Shri Mallu Singh Kanya Inter college
organized a rally which included 100 girl students of the same school and teachers. The
rally focused on cleanliness and education by shouting the slogans. It also focused on the
heinous crimes like female feticide and cruelty like lack of education, child marriage, Child
labor, Child trafficking etc. in the rally. The rally started from the school, covered
Modipuram bypass and concluded at the gates of the school.Janhit Foundation Director
Mrs. Anita Rana & school’s principal Dr.NeeraTomar was the chief organizer. Children
were also given Frooti and a packet of biscuits.
DAY 7
On the final day of the week, 100 children from slums were taken to the Dominoz for a
pizza and cold drink party. This was organized by the joint contribution of Hindi daily
Hindustan along with K.L. International School, Meerut & Child line, Meerut. The
chief guest of this event was the District Magistrate Ms. B. Chandrakala. Chief editor of
Hindustan daily along with the school Principal and Janhit Foundation Director, Mrs.
Anita Rana.The children had fun and were very much excited as they never tasted pizza
and had a party like this before.
10THWORLD AQUA CONGRESS
10th world Aqua Congress – International conference 2016 was organized in New Delhi
on 24th and 25th November at India Habitat Center, New Delhi. The theme of the
conference was Water-Smart Solutions for Growing India and Janhit foundation was
also a part of the conference.
The first day had 3 technical sessions which were themed on “Water Resources:
Availability and Management”. The first speaker was Dr. DK Chadha, Ex-chairman-
CGWG & President GHS who spoke about the water governance. The second speaker Er.
EK Biswas, Chairman, Central Ground Water Board shared his views on the challenges
and road map of the Sustainable development and management of water resources. The
final speaker on the first day was Mr. Samit Ray, Director – Govt. affairs & Public
policies, United Technologies corporation who addressed the effects of the climate change
on Disease Management strategies.
First session of the second day was themed on the Water Resources: Availability,
Management, Quality which had 3 speakers in its agenda. First speaker on the second
day was Er. Vivek P Kapadia, Chief Engineer, WRD Gujrat who spoke on the Usage of
the recycled water. Second session for the day was themed at “Emerging Technologies,
Enhancing water use efficiency & Smart solutions which was conducted by Prof. K G
Moodley, Honorary Research Professor, Durban University of technology, SA who spoke
on water security through Participatory Management In the Indian Himalaya Region.
Final session for the conference was themed on “Resource Management, Utilities & Smart
Solutions” headed by Dr. VineetGahlaut, Head – National Centre of Seismology, MOES. The
keynote speaker presented his views to Ensure Smart Water Availability by Behavioral change.
WORKSHOP ON MISSING CHILDREN, JUVENILE VICTIMS &
DELINQUENCY UNDER THE POXOGUIDELINES
Child line on November 26th, organized this workshop in Police Line Auditorium whose
chief guest was the Superintendent of Police Mr. Ajay Mahadev. Other guests included
Child welfare officer from every police station in the district, C.O. Kotwali Mr. Ranvijay
Singh, Senior Prosecution officer Mrs. Ruby and Joint Prosecution officer Mr. Sarvesh
Kumar Gupta. The event was led by Mr. Ranvijay Singh who informed the audience
about the J.J Act 2015 followed by Mrs. Ruby who informed the audience about the
Prevention of Sexual abuse against children, 2012. Senior psychologist of LLRM
Medical hospital, Meerut informed everyone about the child’s psychology. Towards the
end of the workshop, Mrs. Anita Rana, Director, Janhit FoundationMeerut discussed
about the issues related with children and the working of the Child line, Meerut with the
police present there. Child Rights and the Acts related to the children were also discussed.
WORKSHOP AT ASHA JYOTI CENTRE
A 3-day workshop from December 26 to 28 was organized in the Asha Jyoti Centre,
Medical, Meerut. Asha Jyoti Organization works for the benefit of women and children
whose toll-free number is 181. During the workshop, every employee was called and was
informed about the vision & mission of the organization and how does it work. Asha
Jyoti Centre will provide free education, stay, food & Medical facilities to all women
along with employment opportunities. The event was inaugurated by District Probation
officer Mr Ashutosh and CDO Mr. Vishakh. The event was managed by the Women
Helpline worker Mr. Abhishesh Sharma. Project coordinator of Asha Jyoti Centre Mr.
Arvind was also present along with all the newly recruited member of the organization
for three days.
CHILDLINE HELPED IN THE EYE OPERATION OF A MINOR
On November 24th, Director of Janhit Foundation, Meerut Mrs. Anita Rana helped Ikra, daughter
of a daily wage laborer Ashfaq of Old Tehsil. Ikra had congenital cataract thus leading to a poor
eyesight which was restored by the operation whose expenses were taken care by the child line.
DISTRICT CHILD PROTECTION UNIT (ICPC) BAGHPAT MEETING
On December 3rd, District Child Protection Unit, Baghpat organized a meeting led by
the head of DCPU. Since the child line is also a part of the committee, child line members
were also a part of the meeting. Other members included police dept., Medical Dept.,
Education dept., Dept. of Labor, Transportation Dept., Railway Police etc.
The discussion held on the following points:
1. Mandatory monthly meeting of DCPU.
2. To declare a Nodal officer of every dept. like Health dept., Education Dept.,
Nutrition Dept., Panchayti Raj dept., police dept. etc.
3. For the provision of the organization related to Shishugrah.
4. Meerut children home should be available 24*7 to admit children.
5. If any missing child is found, the police station should inform the District Probation
officer or Child Protection officer so that medical verification of the child is completed
as soon as possible and the child can be produced before the CWC.
6. 24-hours emergency medical services should be available for the children.
7. Child labor and trafficking.
8. Availability of Baal Samvad court at district level.
9. Availability of the best Child friendly environment for the rescued children.
Child line discussed with the DM, Baghpat for the aggressive awareness program of the
child helpline number 1098 for better services of the child line. DM has assured child line
that he will work in this regard and ordered Education dept. and the Medical Dept. to
print the number and logo of the childline.
SWEATER DISTRIBUTION
On December 24th, Mrs. Anita Rana, Director Janhit FoundationMeerut, with the
sponsorship of Rs. 18,000 by Rotary club, Meerut distributed sweaters to 100 girl
students at Shri Mallu Singh Arya Kanya Inter college. Mr. Rahul Kalyan,
Additional District Judge was present at the event in the capacity of the Chief Guest.
Mr. Pranay Gupta, Chairman, Rotary Club and school’s principal Dr. Neera Tomar
were also present who appreciated the joint efforts of both organizations.
TRAFFIC AWARENESS PROGRAM
A drawing and slogan competition was organized for 2 schools namely Shri Mallu Singh
Arya Kanya School and Kasturba Gandhi Kanya School for the awareness about the
traffic rules. Mrs. Kiran Yadav, SP Traffic was present as the chief guest of the event
who explained the traffic rules to the children and made children aware about the
responsibilities on road while driving.
