CorporateSocialResponsibili Our Focus towards our Community

At Janashakthi, a clear vision of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is embedded within, and reflects the core values of the organization. Janashakthi’s mission and values clearly state its responsibility towards the community it operates in, by ‘lighting up the lives’ of Sri Lankans.

Throughout its two decade journey in Sri Lanka, Janashakthi has established its corporate positioning as a company built on strong values; values that have contributed towards its robust standing in the community today, and significantly, the company’s success. We believe in providing ‘a guiding light’ to our community, by tending to the needs of those in our community. In this manner, we have embarked on many CSR initiatives over the years that we believe have enhanced the lives of our fellow Sri Lankans.

Lighting up lives by reaching out to communities through our brands and corporate values

Reaching out to help those who have been affected by HIV

Janashakthi Insurance, in a breakthrough move in the Life insurance indstry, extended Life Cover to those diagnosed with HIV. A first of its kind not only in Sri Lanka, but in all of the Asia Pacific, Janashakthi ‘Green Light’ offers a cover to HIV patients, stepping away from the industry norm of an ‘HIV exclusion’. Janashakthi is the only Insurer that has not made this exclusion in its Life policies for basic Life Cover from day one of its operations.

Grade 5 Scholarship programme – ‘Janashakthi Shilpa Shakthi’

Janashakthi Life organized seminars for students sitting for the Grade 5 Scholarship examinations in Sri Lanka with the aim of inspiring and stimulating talented youngsters to go beyond their limits and excel in everything they do through seminars and workshops held under its ‘Shilpa Shakthi’ brand.

Janashakthi further awarded scholarships to the students who had achieved outstanding results at the Grade 5 Scholarship examinations.

Giving equal opportunity to youth across the country via ‘Janashakthi Tea Leaf Project’

The Tea Leaf Trust is an NGO-based language school located in both Maskelliya and Hatton that empowers youth in the area to develop their language skills. Janashakthi stepped in to support this worthy initiative by providing students of this establishment with a three month internship programme at Janashakthi, inclusive of all expenses paid, which enables the candidates to further practically use their knowledge and skills in a work environment. The ‘Janashakthi – Tea Leaf Project’ internship programme thus provides a stepping stone to these students, even resulting in a large number of these students being absorbed to the permanent cadre at Janashakthi, and their subsequent progress up the corporate ladder.

Promoting higher education amongst students through rewards and recognition

This initiative is aimed at empowering undergraduates of the ‘Insurance and Valuation Programme’ from the Wayamba and Uva Wellassa Universities by awarding gold medals to the high flyers of this programme. Students with high academic qualifications in the field of Insurance are subsequently invited to be part of a corporate environment at Janashakthi and embark on a journey of enhancing their knowledge, whilst simultaneously adding value to the organization.

CorporateSocial Responsibili (Contd.)

Technical advice extended to motorists via Janashakthi Vehicle Health Camp

Combining brand awareness whilst helping people, the Janashakthi ‘Motor Clinic’ is yet another industry first introduced.

Where Janashakthi has joined hands with reputed entities to provide expert guidance on motor care at no additional cost. This service has been extended to society at large since 2012 onwards across the island.

Vehicle Relief Service for motorists during key festivities and religious pilgrimages

This is a service extended to pilgrims who travel to their various destinations via vehicles. Sri Lanka’s cultural calendar constitutes of many key religious events across many geographical locations, to which thousands of pilgrims travel during their festive times. Janashakthi pioneered a 24-hour vehicle repair service free of charge to all motorists, ‘Janashakthi Full Option Vehicle Relief Service’ provided via a mobile vehicle repair facility as a public service, regardless of who their original Insurance provider was.

Promote road safety awareness in schools and equipping students with safety materials

Janashakthi Insurance reaffirmed its commitment to traffic safety by providing special reflective traffic warden uniforms and traffic cones to students to engage in thier traffic warden duties in a safe and responsible manner. This was implemented following an urgent need communicated to Janashakthi by local Police and school principals in Katharagama and Moneragala.

Janashakthi will continue to expand this project with the objective of contributing towards reducing tragic traffic accidents through training and awareness on road safety.

Recognising selfless acts of civilian bravery ‘Janashakthi – National Civilian Bravery Awards’

In October 2015, Janashakthi launched a new integrated Marketing Communication campaign across all channels, which positioned Insurance as a provider of light during times of darkness. Analogies of a railway guard was effective in positioning the Insurance Salesperson as yet another ‘unsung hero’.

Janashakthi then extended this campaign via the corporate platform by partnering with the Foundation of Civilian Bravery of Sri Lanka to roll out the ‘Janashakthi – National Civilian Bravery Awards’ to recognize ‘unsung heroes’ - civilians who selflessly risked their lives to save the life of another. The event was conducted at a national level, engaging the participation of the masses across all provinces in Sri Lanka.
