ALL creative resources from our young people

THE HUMAN RESSOURCE CHALLENGE

Ageing society. An increasing number of young people dropping out of education, getting disengaged or completing school with poor results…

On the other hand: the region needs still fewer low-educated workers and still more well-educated, self-directed and creative lifelong learners…

THE GLOBAL PRESSURE

The global market will not help the European regions.

On the contrary. All European regions will be under great pressure from the new and from emerging economies.






WHY LINKED TO TECHNOLOGY, INNOVATION AND YOUTH?

Because technology and innovation is not only about producing goods and services, but more and more about:

Developing strong creative competences among our citizens, the new generations in particular




INNOVATION COMPETENCES

Competences to create innovation in design, knowledge, community initiatives, ecology and energy, and in technology itself

– aiming to produce strong, attractive and market expanding and leading new products and services





TECHNOLOGY IS ABOUT INNOVATION IN LEARNING

So, technology is not only about physical products or research.

Technology must serve as a powerful resource for re-engaging our young generations.

We cannot effort to lose a still growing percentage of our young people.





MORE DISENGAGED YOUNG PEOPLE

Efforts to provide disengaged or at risk youth with basic traditional schooling is not enough.

Basic schooling will not be sufficient to enable them to contribute to a creative labor market.

And, by the way, they are not interested in basic schooling!





HOW CAN WE USE INNOVATE TECHNOLOGY TO RE-ENGAGE OUR YOUNG PEOPLE?

By fundamentally re-thinking education and learning and basing innovative learning facilities on advanced and creative use of technology and media.







By offering youth at risk and disengaged young learners new creative learning opportunities, forgetting old classrooms and outdated academic learning styles.






By offering them explorative laboratories of learning with technology and media, linking their learning to their own talents, their community and to real life.




DISAPPOINTMENT AND NEVER UNFOLDED POTENTIALS

The European Commission and the OECD:

Educational technology has been a great disappointment. Old classrooms with a little ICT.

We need new media and laboratory based didactics, innovating the basic ways in which we think and organize learning for our new generations.
