The Explorer’s Class concludes its series on “The Evolution of Marriage” this morning with the focus on how the mainline denominations have dealt with the ordination of homosexuals and marriages for same-sex couples. Next Sunday, Jan Stevens, retired perfusionist, May Clinic, will begin a 3-week series on “Health and Religion.” The first week will focus on the history of health care in Western cultures and stories of healing in the Bible which relate to our current concepts of healing and health. Join us at 9:00 a.m. in the Adult Room. All are welcome. Coffee is served.

Contemporary Issues - The Adult Contemporary Issues class begins a new series on the topic of “Happiness”. The series will involve videos and discussion based on the views of multiple philosophers and our Christian heritage to understand the state of “happiness”. Sandi Chamness is leading the discussion. Class meets at 10:30 in the Adult Room.

Women’s Retreat 2013 - Strength for Your Spiritual Journey - Mark your calendars for Saturday, Feb. 23rd, and plan to attend this one-day retreat led by Jane Tews, Jen Rooney and Carol Coleman, at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale. The cost is $45 which includes breakfast & lunch, and the book, Life of the Beloved, by Henri Nouwen. Church & Society - Church & Society announces an informational meeting on Arizona Career Pathways on Thursday, Feb. 7th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Adult Room. Singles at Dayspring - Singles, Etc. Lunches - Each Sunday after the second service, those who want to go out for lunch as a group meet at the restaurant listed below. If you attend first service, please join us! We gather around noon under the name “Dayspring”. Jan. 27 - Coco’s - SW corner of Elliot and Priest.

Donate Books - United Methodist Women will have a used book sale on Saturday, March 9. We are collecting novels, mysteries, biographies, children’s books, non-fiction. No magazines or textbooks, please. Place your books in the box in the narthex or in the church office on weekdays. Thank you.

Dayspring Preschool and Kindergarten - Registration runs Jan. 24th - Feb. 12th. You can pick up packets in the Preschool and the Church office beginning Jan. 24th. Registered Church members have a priority. If you have questions or would like to schedule a tour, please call the Preschool office at (480) 838-9097. Children who turn 3 between Sept. 1 and Apr. 30th are able to attend the Pee Wee Class which meets Wednesday mornings. We have classes available for children who turn 3 before Sept. 1, 2013 and 4 before Sept. 1, 2013. Our kindergarten children must be 5 by Sept. 1, 2013. ALL the children must be potty trained. Looking forward to meeting you and your children.

“Connections” is a Dayspring mission that advocates for the intrinsic worth of all persons, regardless of their sexual orientation. It offers support to and education about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons and their families. It also hosts the Tempe PFLAG group meeting each first Friday of the month. Our clergy can provide the names of “Connections” members for you to contact.

Brown Bag Lunch - Come join us every Tuesday at noon. Bring your own lunch and socialize with people from the church. We always have a good time! Come and be a part of this fun group.
