With the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we formally end the Christmas season. The baby is now an adult! He is ready to start his public ministry. He is ready to begin his long awaited journey to Jerusalem, where he will manifest on the cross why he took our humanity in the first place. The Child-King, who was visited by the Magi on the Feast of the Epiphany, is ready to embrace the cross, his salvific throne as King. Feast of the Baptism of the Lord PASTOR'S MESSAGE

CONFESSION/CONFESIONSaturday:

8:40 to 10 am and 3:30 to 4:40 pm

Page 2: Jan 10 2021 · 2021. 1. 1. · St. Cecilia Parish Men's Club "Simple" Crab Feed for Drive-Thru Pickup Saturday, January 30, 2021. 1:00 to 4:00 pm in the Activity Center Parking Lot.

This is the very reason why the Father is “pleased withhim” using the words in the Gospel today.

The baptism of the Lord in the Jordan River was alsothe beginning of his active public ministry. Afterbaptism, we saw him preaching boldly the GoodNews, curing the sick, etc.

This is also what is expected of us of our baptism. Ourbaptism carries a huge responsibility of leading a lifeaccording to our Christian commitment. The symbolsof the sacrament of baptism are rich and many: starting from the asking of the priest of the name ofthe child which signifies that the person to bebaptized is no longer anonymous, he/she doesn’tlive in darkness anymore without a clear identity, butis now a child of God; another powerful symbol is thesigning of the cross in which the priest says thesewords, “(Name), the Christian community welcomesyou with great joy. In its name, I claim you for Christour Savior by the sign of his cross”.

This powerfully communicates that we are now“branded” in Christ, that we are now God’s becausethat sign is an indelible mark of our incorporation toJesus -- to act otherwise is, then, to deny our newidentity. As baptized, we walk in this world with thatinvisible sign of the cross, and that invisible sign ismade visible by the way we lead our own lives. How are we living up to our baptismal commitment?– Fr. Cary

UPDATED GUIDELINES ONPUBLIC MASSES

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL (SVDP)

liquid dish soupshampoojello

St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) is currently in need of:

Donations can be delivered to the food pantrybetween the hours of 9 and 11 am. Thank you foryour generosity!

Our daily Mass time from Monday thru Saturday is at8am. Saturday Vigils are 5pm and 7pm (Spanish).Sundays Masses are: 7:30am, 9am, 10:45am, 12:30pmand 2:30pm (Spanish). We have added, for the timebeing, one more Mass on Wednesday at 6pm.

Just before Christmas, the Office of the Archbishop sentparishes a letter informing us of the recently updatedguidelines from the state for faith gatherings. An excerptof the Archbishop's letter is found below (in bold).

The Governor’s Office notified the Archdiocese ofPortland that the capacity limits for faith institutionsare public health recommendations only, not legalrequirements. As a result, I (Archbishop) am changingmy directives for parishes to the following, effectiveimmediately:

Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Portland mayaccommodate as many people as possible in bothchurch buildings and satellite locations, while strictlymaintaining 6 foot distancing, up to 50% of the firemarshal’s maximum capacity for the space. Pleasenote that few if any parishes will be able to reach 50%of capacity due to seating configurations and churchlayout while observing the 6 foot social distancingrequirement. Masking continues to be required andcleaning protocols should still be maintained. Sign-ups for Masses are no longer required. Contactinformation for Mass participants is no longerrequired and does not need to be maintained for 60days.

In view of the above new directives from the State andthe Archbishop, we will no longer be doing sign-ups orsign-ins at St. Cecilia's for Masses, including Holy Daysof Obligation, starting the weekend of December 26 -27 and moving forward. People can just show up toattend Mass and find an available seat until we reachcapacity. The current rosters (registered attendeesduring this pandemic in the Mass lottery) for SundayMasses are below the newly allowed capacity for ourparish. Thus, we can safely accommodate the numberof Mass attendees, following all requirements.

In the future, if there is an increase in attendance at ourVigil and Sunday Masses and if we can no longer safelyaccommodate everyone, then we will have to come upwith a sign up system that would facilitate a just andequitable opportunity for our parishioners to come toMass. But, in the meantime, this is not yet needed.

Face coverings are legally required at indoor gatherings, including in churches, per statewide and archdiocesandirectives. Exceptions are made for people withdisabilities or diagnosed medical conditions thatpreclude them from wearing masks. Those attendingwithout face coverings due to the exemptionsmentioned above are asked to use the cry room.
