Book Review: New Moon (Twilight series)

First of all, if you’re looking to read New Moon and haven’t read the book Twilight, I strongly suggest you read it first. Other than that, if you have read it, then let me be the first to say, the sequel, New Moon is a pretty good book! In my opinion, it was a little boring, and kind of interesting. The way you take this book, is based highly upon your past life-experiences. Also the book can go a little slow at times, because the plot is a little less “twisty and turny” than Twilight. This can also be a sad or happy book, depending highly on the reader.

New Moon had trouble keeping my attention, and it wasn’t exciting like Twilight. If you had any trouble reading Twilight cover to cover, it will only be worse with New Moon. Mainly, I didn’t get through it very quickly, because nothing very interesting happened until it got about halfway through the book, although, on a positive note, it did get very interesting after that. The reading has sent some more sensitive readers into a bit of a depression, until they finished the book.

There are some good characters introduced to New Moon that appeal to some people. When the reader gets to a certain point in the book, one of the minor characters from Twilight becomes a major character in New Moon. In my opinion, this character was a good replacement for the other character that's out of the book at the time (I can't say who, or I'd spoil the surprise!), although some people didn't like him. He became one of my favourite characters.

New Moon's plot moves more slowly than Twilight's, but it's still worth reading to the end. While it did take me awhile to read through this book, I thought it was worth it for the ending. If you're the type of reader who gets a little depressed by the book, it's important to read it to the end. New Moon can be either happy, or sad. While some people have fallen into a bit of a depression reading the book, others have thoroughly enjoyed it, and been very hopeful that it would end happily. I still enjoyed it, because although there was a lack of real action, I got to learn about a new "species". There was more drama than the last book, and a little less romance, but I still liked it.

So Overall.....While New Moon was a good deal more dramatic than Twilight, I would still give it a seven on a scale of one to ten. It had an interesting new character, with more and more revealed about him as the book progresses. I still like Stephenie Meyer's writing style, and she continues to use many literary devices, with alot of similes, and metaphors. So Overall..... I would recommend this book to anyone who likes drama, or enjoyed reading Twilight.

Indian SareesBy: Amrit SinghMay 19th, 2009

Known to accentuate a lady's gracefulness, the Indian Saree is truly a must in every lady's wardrobe. Though western casuals are a rage with young college-goers and working professionals, yet the Indian Saree will never lose it prominence when it comes to formal wear.

The Indian saree comes in different variations as per its color, fabric, prints and of course it’s making like machine made, hand woven and so on.

Among the most popular sarees in India as per their fabric are:

Silk Sarees: These are comparatively expensive sarees but are preferred by all women for their elegance, beauty and diversity. Some of the varieties include Mysore silks, Kanchipuram silks, Arani silks, Valkalams, Kora silks, the Patola silk and printed silk sarees. Buy silk saree and see how you become the centre of attraction everywhere.

Designer Sarees: Complemented with designer wearblouses, the designer sarees are one of a kind. They are exclusively designed to suitindividual tastes. The designer sarees may be made of any material, and are usually heavily embroidered with zari work, sequins, beaded work, brocades etc. Some ladies make special designer sarees for occasions like weddings etc.

Casual Sarees: The casual Indian saree may range from cotton sarees to georgette and crepe. These sarees are less expensive and are

usually worn at home.

Cotton Sarees: Cotton sarees in India include the famous Kolkata cotton saree, Venkatgiri cotton, Mangalgiri cotton, or the Kota sarees from Rajasthan. Besides this 'Tangail Cotton' and 'Shantiniketan Cotton' sarees from Bengal

are examples of well woven cotton sarees. If you are looking for earthy shades then 'Sambhalpur cotton' is the best.

Georgette Sarees: These are absolute lightweight fabric, often made of silk or polyester. They are often accompanied with zardosi or other embroidery work to give it a grand look. Georgette Indian sarees without embellishments could be worn as daily wear saree.

Chiffon Sarees: These are thin and light weighted sarees and often come in floral prints or designer motifs.

Crepe Sarees: Crepe sarees usually come in two varieties namely hard finished crepe and soft crepe. They come in both

bright and pastel shades. They can be used both for casual occasions and well as high profile outing depending on the work done over it.

Nowadays, smart shoppers prefer to shop for all kinds of sarees at online stores, as they offer great gifting options as well as stock sarees according to individual types. This definitely makes it easier for the customer to enjoy hassle free saree shopping.

Recessionistas aren't giving up on fashion. And no wonder that the denim fever rages on this summer. With most brands in the denim jeans wear industry experiencing year-on-year growth, the latest collections in the market are just getting more snazzy and hip than ever before. Skinny jeans from brands such as Levis, FCUK, Calvin Klein, s.Oliver and Paul Smith are being touted as the latest fad. Call it the impact of slowdown, but slim is definitely in! Levis' recent campaign built around the 4 new 'button fly' fits was launched in stores this season. The four new fits-low-rise slim, boot cut, relaxed straight and tapered-form a part of this range. The brand which boasts the largest market share in the Indian jeans-wear market, says that it has been experiencing year-on-year growth. "We have grown significantly since the last year. We opened 100 stores across 30-35 cities in the past one year alone. That shows the constant level of demand for our products, even in these times," says Shyam Sukhramani, marketing director, Levi’s. Others too have been following suit. Leading denim brand Calvin Klein (CK) introduced two new skinny fits in men's this season and three new such styles for women. Side strips, loops and spangled labels with selvedge-edges on them make them an unconventional wear. Vijay Murjani, MD, Murjani Group says that the premium denim segment has not been impacted by market conditions. "Jeans have been the largest single selling apparel product. Our feedback to the latest CK Jeans Spring Summer collection has been quite encouraging. Each of our skinny fits are very popular among customers as we are constantly sold out on the key looks."A lot of styling has now come into jeans which makes them done a smart appearance. Zipper on leg openings, unwashed looks, back pocket detailing and ornamentation are all now making their presence felt. European fashion brand s.Oliver recently launched their Sexy Denims campaign at a campaign cost of 250 000.The brand which has seen an upsurge of 25% in denim sales has some innovative fits this season. Kunal Pant, head, product and design, s.Oliver India outlines the trends this season. "The major focus is on the boyfriend fit along with the Marlene and the super slim, in fact we have introduced a super skinny range for our petite customer which is priced at about $2,399, any slimmer we go and we might have to put a zipper on the leg openings which in fact is high on trend for the next season. The time has come when jeans are not washed and cut in all the fits and washes, instead styling has become priority, and the trend is to choose a wash that goes with the style."The look is slim, straight legs and skinny jeans, for UK-based designer

brand Paul Smith as well. The season, according to the brand, is seeing the comeback of light blue, 80's washed denim and colours like grey and white to match the summer palette. "Boot cuts and loose baggy styles are on the way out. People are waking up to finishes, washes and quality. We are also seeing the revival of old school selvedge denim which is seeing an increasing demand amongst denim connoisseurs," says the press office of the brand. The brand claims receiving an extremely positive response to their collection. They are the most popular apparel segment among people of various age groups. And clearly, their popularity remains on top despite the slowdown blues.
