LONE WOLF VENTURESJ O E S C O B L E

G R A P H I C D E S I G N P O R T F O L I O 2 0 1 62

Lone wolf ventures is run by Joe Scoble. He is self employed and works mainly as a tree surgeon but also offers other professional services. He came to me through recommendation and asked that I design him a logo that symbolises his Canadian upbringing and the different services provided by Lone Wolf Ventures.

The Logo mimics the art style of the North American Haida people. and is made up of images that symbolise Trees, gardening, bee keeping, photography and mixology. The logo May be used at a small scale or enlarged to feature more prominently in future designed outcomes.

LUCIDITY LOGOC H A R L I E F O X + C R O O K E D R E C O R D S

Lucidity is a channel responsible for promoting artists of electronic music, The channel features a diverse range of drum and bass as well as other electronic genres. Crooked Records are providing the musical material featured on the channel whilst Charlie came to me with the request to design a Logo for the channel he left the creativity of the design in my hands, With the only specifications being to use deeper and richer colours and to symbolise the meaning of Lucidity. Being a fan of drum and bass / electronic music I was able to create a unique but relevant outcome and most importantly Charlie was really pleased with what I produced.

The state of “lucidity” is symbolised in the logo, The figures eyes are obscured but the eye of insight is wide open. Hands laced with wires feed a twirling cable into an ethereal set of speakers and sound-waves pour from a skull adorned with circuitry showing the connection to electronic music and hinting at the altered state of

focus it can bring on.

PUPPY TRAINING GUIDED O G S F O R T H E D I S A B L E D

G R A P H I C D E S I G N P O R T F O L I O 2 0 1 66

I worked with Dogs for the Disabled to create a pamphlet teaching essential commands to volunteers. Puppies live with volunteer “socialisers” up to the age of 1 and in this time it is up to the volunteer to cultivate certain skills that prepare the puppy for future training and a life helping people who may have a disability or who’s quality of life could be greatly increased with the aid of a specially trained helper.

PUPPY TRAINING GUIDE

A P R I L 2 0 1 4 - E D I T O R I A L L A Y O U T A N D I D E O G R A M S

The pamphlet includes ideographic images designed using Adobe Illustrator and is made to be concise, putting its message across using clear language and imagery. This ensures

volunteers can follow the standardised regime with ease. The whole document follows a style guide that maintains the corporate identity and serves as an essential learning tool

to supplement one on one training,

ART & DESIGN WORKF R E E L A N C E S A L E S

Since 2014 I have been producing a small range of design outcomes that I have marketed in different ways. I am always working on new independent artworks and maintaining a line of print work that is always growing. In the future I would like to expand my reach and continue creating new work, whilst also providing freelance design expertise and collaborating with others. I am truly contented when I am drawing and designing, and so I think it’s important for me to continue using it as an outlet. As practice. And if I can tap into a larger market that appreciates the style of my work then that’s even better as it will help fund and further my experience and capabilities. The images to the left come from my line of art prints signifying one of my favourite styles of illustration

ART & DESIGN WORK

Real Imagination is a book about the

illusory nature of our perceptions, and the physical world. The book is inspired by my enthusiasm for

physics, philosophy and the oddities of nature and is fully illustrated

with interesting and explanatory images and drawings. Many

pages also QR link to digital media in order to provide a basis for

further exploration. I spent a couple of

months developing the outcome, gathering interesting research

and designing all the artwork. And it is a

project I am hoping to revisit and expand upon.

Wahoo, a night club in Oxford, asked me to design a mural for use in one of their toilet cubicles. I gladly took on the project and developed a piece that reflected aspects of the club atmosphere whilst retaining my unique art style.

Whilst studying at Bristol UWE I undertook a self directed study into the prevalence of mass surveillance in the UK and internationally. Exploring facts and opinions about surveillance I produced some outcomes addressing the most pertinent issues being discussed. I made the booklet “CCTV surveillance networks” as an exploration of the proliferation of CCTV throughout western society. Not only to inform, but to provide a means of using the perceptions surrounding surveillance in the individuals favour. (The booklet doubles as a template for a dummy CCTV unit). This work was also accompanied with a video piece explaining how all our private data is being stolen from us on a regular basis as a form of “pre-Criminal” investigation.

HOT CLINIC FLOWWhilst working at the University, a colleague from another division of the department approached me (after having read my book)to discuss the creation of two posters for use as visual aids to both staff and patients alike. I was eager to take on the task and managed to turn a boringly simplistic flow diagram into something that is both aesthetically pleasant and fit for purpose. I worked alongside the university throughout the project to assess potential changes to the layout and how the actual process runs in practice. I also provided a range of ideograms using Illustrator to symbolise different stages of the process and bought them all together to make two unique and slick infographic pieces.

Working alongside Encase, a product packaging company in Banbury, I worked to produce a “Grow your own” herb kit. I began the job by designing the packaging net, then, using my illustrative skills, designed a rustic logo / aesthetic that I later applied to the product using a silt screen printing process, Encase helped me with the fabrication of the packaging by taking my digital net of the product and running it through a large format cutting machine. The final outcome is complete with perforations and demonstrates how the packaging itself is used to contain the herbs and act as a stylish

During my HND study I undertook a two week work experience at Imageworks in Oxford. Whilst there I took part in meetings, did some editorial design and created the company Halloween letterhead using a provided style guide .This was fulfilling because it showcased my compositional, Layout and hands on skills and allowed me to work creatively within certain parameters.

I can confirm that Jamie has been working within our codes of practice and protocols during his time at the Image Works. During this period, he has also experienced the various aspects of the services we offer, and followed the work-flow of the business.

In addition, he has provided practical help with some of the creative work in progress.

He has also been set a communications task, and proved to be adept at not only taking and understanding the brief, but delivering some

interesting and thoughtful solutions.

Jamie is a pleasant and outgoing young man. With continued application, enthusiasm and support I have no doubt he will develop his creative skills into

a worthwhile career.

Kind regards,Andy Cooke
