Personal Profle

An enthusiastic and self-motivated graduate in graphic communication who wishes to apply his

knowledge of design with a team of professional creatives. Currently working on designs for a series of

leaets and posters for a local charity involved with youth counselling. Recent assignment for a local

rm to redesign and align technical documents.

The clear and accurate communication of an idea is central to my idea of practising design, always

keeping in mind how the end user will interact and read into the nished article. Im literate with design

trends and understanding how use of Typography, Colour, and Illustration can help build the personality

of work, aiding the communicative impact of a piece.

A clear and approachable person with experience with of dealing with people at all levels within an

organisation and who works well in a team. Based in Bristol with a full clean driving licence.

A procient and quick user of Illustrator. Mixture of work based on hand

drawing, a skill developed through art courses and use of software displayed

in areas of my portfolio such as the Glass Ceiling Illustration, and the Harris

Watches project.

Used for creating leaets, booklets and interactive PDFs. Adept with use of

grids and used in most typographic work.

Created several animations using After Effects. Procient at sequencing andachieving a sense of ow and rhythm to animation work.

Used for adding depth and texture to drawings and designs. Competant user

and incorporating more of its capabilities into my work.

I am a sporty and creative person with particular interests in playing guitar for a local band, club level

tennis and both club/county level hockey. I have also been able to use my graphics skills to design

logos and posters within these communities. I regularly skateboard and take a huge interest in

skateboardings culture and style.

The assignment was to pick a word from a list (in this case two words) and create a piece of artwork based from it.

This was perhaps the most open brief I had experienced at university, but through conversing with fellow students

it became clear that many were unaware of the phrases meaning, identifying this as a problem, the focus became to

communicate some of what it represents in my illustrative response.

By the end of my rst year studying graphic communication, we had learned many of the fundamentals in design. In this

brief we were asked to reect on our rst year and produce an outcome in the form of an A-Z displaying this. I created

the narrative of an inspector assessing the courses content, much like a checklist, eventually certifying what we had

been taught was useful and necessary.

Marshmallow Entertainment Ltd is a company creating a range of games for mobile devices and this project was

submitted in the hope of an internship with the company. The brief was to create a branding concept for the company

that included a website and loading screen concept. We were told to keep it fun and bold, but were not shown the

games or any imagery they had for it.

Penguin Book Competition

Completed for the Penguin Book Competition for the novel What a Carve Up!. This novel is set in the 1980s, t he plotis

essentially about a very unpleasant, powerful family and a writer commissioned to write up a history on them. The book

is a dark comedy, a trait I kept in mind when designing the cover, balancing the oppressive family, marked by the shoes

gathered around the edges, with the splash of vibrant yellow and a title designed to convey the comedic and hapless

nature of the family and writer in the book.

A work in progress for Network Youth, a youth counselling programme operating out of schools. These are initial visualsI have supplied the director of Network Youth awaiting further feedback, for a brochure cover and visual concept

for a poster attracting young people to use their service. The concept of weather is a universally understandable,

approachable, and relevant metaphor to apply t o moods, and essentially the overcoming of difcult periods. Weather is

transient, it can and will change.

A project completed an university, the brief was to pick a site, then undertake in-depth research and present anoutcome that showed something unique and engaing about it. I chose my jeans and created a narrative based loosely

on personal experiences, the transformation from someone who takes little notice of his jeans, to someone becoming

obsessed with them, and in particular a type called the Raw jean. Its personal and fun, to keep the piece from

becoming didactic.
