The Power Of PatienceJames 5:7-12
2 Count it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know
that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its
full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4
Patience in Suffering7 Be patient, therefore, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord.
James 5:1
• “until the coming of the Lord” (verse 7)• “For the coming of the Lord is at hand” (verse 8)• “The Judge is standing at the door” (verse 9)
Examples of Patience
Examples of Patience1. The Farmer
See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. 8 You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
James 5:7-8
Cast your burden on the LORD,and he will sustain you;he will never permit
the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on
him, because he cares for you.1 Peter 5:6-7
9 Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged;
behold, the Judge is standing at the door.James 5:9
Examples of Patience2. The Prophet
10 As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
James 5:10
Examples of Patience3. Job
11 Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
James 5:11
12 But above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and
your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
James 5:12
We can remain patient in times of suffering because God meets us with His grace.
TRUTH
7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the
revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to
keep me from becoming conceited.
8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to
me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore
I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may
rest upon me.1 Corinthians 12:7-9
The Power of PrayerJames 5:13-20
Examples of Prayer
Examples of Prayer1. Pray for those who are suffering.
The Prayer of Faith13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
James 5:13
Examples of Prayer2. Pray for those who are sick.14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:14-16
Examples of Prayer3. Pray for those who lead Nations.
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.
James 5:17-18
Pray for All People2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful
and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the
sight of God our Savior,1 Timothy 2:1-3
Examples of Prayer4. Pray for those who wander from their faith.
19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
James 5:19-20
