HML cHargerargerHML cThe Destrier-class Light
Air Cruiser was designed to dominate its the French opponent, the Liberté-class. However, the appearance of the Faucon-class put the pressure on the Royal Sky Navy to respond. The HML Charger is that response.
Experience with the initial Destriers has been fed backintegrated into the design process. Modified oil-fired boilers and turbines eked out useful performance gains without increasing weight, and standardization of the
broadside has led to improved fire control. Most significantly, however, the Charger is
fitted with French-style empennage, bringing its turning circle back into line with that of earlier comparable British
leviathans.Sky Commander Sir
Edward Seaborne Clouston has been given command of the HML Charger, and, with a picked crew, are is working up for deployment as part of the Channel squadrons, where they are expected to demonstrate their mettle in short order.

HML evesHaMMHML evesWhen the press says
“gunboat diplomacy,” the Defender-class Armoured Air Cruiser is the gunboat they mean. Until the rising of the third HML Leviathan in 1906, the Defender’s familiar ‘beak’, four stacks, and the brass tubing of its Swann stabilizer could be sketched accurately by any schoolboy. With its massive primary and secondary armament, for the Defender-class remains equivealaent to the aerial battleships of lesser powers.
HML Evesham was repaired following action in
Afghanistan in 1907, and now carries additional 3-in guns at the expense of some armour. Combined with replacement
of its boilers and refurbishment of its electrical plant, has given the ship an additional seven knots of airspeed.
The Evesham is due to commence its return journey to its regular Indian station outside Bombay once a new captain is appointed—its previous commander, Sky Captain Terrence Lancsman, having been promoted to command the Leviathan-class HML Medusa.

aigleaigleaigleThe Agile is the lead vessel
of a second run of Faucon-class Light Air Cruisers, these coming from Schneider et Cie’s graving docks in Brest. The company seems to have concentrated its efforts on designing and constructing cruiser-class ganymedes, to complement their production of cannon and aerial torpedoes.
The original Faucon-class ganys were criticized on a number of levels. While performing their offensive missions admirably, there was agreement that greater maneuverability was
required for most effective deployment of its weaponry.
In addition, a number of engine failures had demonstrated the vulnerability of the high-powered triple expansion
boilers powering the vessels. The Agile accordingly is fitted with new oil-fired turbines based on those used in the Grenouille-class. Replacement of the coal bunkers has provided room for a modern engineering compartment. Empennage is also provided, enabling the ship to handle like a much lighter vessel.

philip ii augustusphilip ii augustusphilip ii augustusThe Conquérant-class
of protected Protected Air Cruisers were designed with empire in mind; unlike many previous designs, this class featured deep bunkers, efficient water recycling systems, and a mind towards crew comfort.
The Philip II Augustus, third of its class, is nicknamed Dieudonne (God-given) both for the historical king after which it’s named and for the attitude of its commander, Commandant aérien Marius Moutet. Dieudonne has been flagship
of the North African squadron for four years. In the last year Moutet has twice been ordered to hand over command so as to take up a training command,
but has managed to refuse both orders through his political connections. His fondness for Tunisia—and his
Algerian-born French wife—inevitably earned him the tag pied-noir. Making this into a matter of pride, Moutet promptly ordered that black boots replace brown in the dress uniform of his squadron.

This section includes two ready-to-play scenarios for the ships found in this PDF, as well as those found in the Lieutenant’s Manualand James’ Fighting Leviathans: Excerpt From The 1910 Edition.
ADDITIONAL RULESThe following additional rules are in effect for both scenarios.
Note these are abbreviated rules and do not contain all the rules as presented in the Commander’s Manual.
Except where specifically noted, all rules for the Lieutenant’s Manual (LM) apply.
CHANGING FACINGThe following rules are in addition to all the standard rules for
changing facing:Two-Hexside Turn: If a ship does not spend any MPs to enter a
new hex during a turn (provided it has at least 1 undamaged Engine Slot), it can always spend its entire movement to change 1 or 2 hexsides; it can never change more than 2 hexsides in this fashion.
STEERING GEARAll ships are considered to mount minimal steering gear that does
not take up Slots and that provides the minimum amount of facing change capability as described above.
Steering Gear Slots allow for an additional movement option, described below.
Reduced Hexes Entered Before TurnFor every Steering Gear Slot in a Location, reduce by 1 the Enter
Hexes Before Turn value on that Ship Card for that side (Starboard
Location or Port Location; for Type 4 ships, use the Aft-Starboard or Aft-port Location). For example, the HML Essex has an Enter Hexes Before Turn value of 2, which means it normally must enter 2 hexes before turning right (starboard) or left (port). However, it mounts Steering Gear in each side Location (starboard and port), and so it need only enter 1 hex straight ahead in order to turn in either direction. If in a following turn the Steering Gear Slot in the Starboard Location is destroyed, then the HML Essex need only enter 1 hex before turning left (port), but must enter its standard 2 hexes before turning right (starboard).
If a ship’s Enter Hexes Before Turn value is reduced to 0 because of steering gear, then the ship need not enter any hexes before turning in the appropriate direction. Regardless of steering gear, however, a ship can never change facing more than 1 hexside in the same hex (see Changing Facing above for the exception).
TurretsIf a weapon Slot shows a white nail icon (shown at right), it is
mounted on a turret. Weapons mounted in turrets can be turned to fire into arcs outside the standard arc where the weapon Slot is located, as shown on the Type 1 and Type 2 Firing Arcs Diagram (see p. 13, LM). Turrets do not change the hex where a weapon is located; for example a 138mm Gun Battery with a turret in a Bow hex of a Type 2 Ship is still mounted in the first hex for the purposes of counting range.
When making a Breach Roll, the player announces which arc the turret is facing; all turrets start every turn automatically facing the standard arc where they’re mounted.
