4. So, what does this rich, Greek warrior have in common with an 18 year-old boy from the slums?
While comparing Odysseus and Jamal, there were a few connections that I noticed:
Both Odysseus and Jamal had to travel abroad before returning to their true loves.
Both had to use their wits to solve problems.

5. Call to Adventure
When Jamal calls to be on the show Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire?. He gets accepted
and prepares to go on the show.

6. Call to adventure:
Odysseus was still stranded on the Island of
Calypso when Calypso received word that Zeus
had declared war on him. He was to be released
from the island.

7. Helper/Amulet
His main helper is his brother Salim, although
Salim betrays him several times. His other
helpers are the people in the game show
audience. He has several people who pretend to
help him but really betray him.

Sailors
Hermes
Calypso (maybe?)

9. Crossing the Threshold
Jamal did not know the answer to the final
question. During the break, the game show host
fed Jamal a wrong answer. Jamal did not fall for
his trick.

10. Crossing the Threshold
Odysseus leaves the Island of Calypso and
begins his journey home.

Answering the questions on the game show
Surviving without a mother or father
Finding a way to make money
Finding a way to reach Latika

Fighting the Cyclops
Surviving the sirens
Surviving the wrath of Poseidon
Winning the competition for Penelope
Odysseus was given a bag of wind that should have delivered him home. His sailors opened the bag and it sent them to the wrong place.

13. Climax
When Latika sees Jamal on the television and
goes after him. They finally reunite.

14. Climax/Final Battle
Odysseus disguised as a beggar and killed all other suitors and their maids. He won the competition for Penelope just in time.

15. Flight
Jamal answered the question correctly, even
though the game show host fed him an incorrect
answer. The host accused Jamal of cheating and
he was arrested and beaten until he could prove
himself innocent. After that, he returned to the
show.

16. Flight
Odysseus goes to his fathers farm in order
to prove his identity.

17. Return
Jamal answered the final question correctly and
had to return to his average life. I guess you
could not really call it average, though. Now he
had 20 million rupees.

18. Return
Family and friends of the suitors and sailors
came after Odysseus but Athena protected him,
yet again.

19. Elixir
Jamal and Latika end up together. She is out of
danger and he no longer suffers from poverty.

20. Elixir
Ithaca is finally at peace again.
