JAMAICA’S OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY BILL
What does it mean for Employers & Employees?
Jamaica is likely to finalize the steps for the debate and passage of the Occupational Health & Safety Bill sometime this year. If approved, the resultant Act will replace the Factories Act, 1943 (as amended) and its various Regulations. The new legislation will have many far-reaching implications. In the workplace the
act will call for the establishment of new mechanisms – and the responsibilities of both employers and employees will undergo some major changes.
Is your firm familiar with what is proposed in the current bill? Have you factored into your planning the new systems/mechanisms that will be required for compliance?
The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce has partnered with member firm Nunes Scholefield DeLeon to host a Breakfast Seminar on Jamaica’s Occupational Health & Safety Bill. The presenters will be Attorneys-at-Law Ms. Ayana Thomas & Mr. Monroe Wisdom.

MEMBERS FORUM: Balance equals Productivity
The JCC hosted a Members Forum on March 22, 2017 at the JCC Secretariat titled “Balance equals Productivity”.
The objective was to discuss ways of creating work/life balance for improved productivity. The presenter (pictured below) was Floria Aghdaminehr who is a Productivity Wellness Coach.
Discussions related to Creating Work Life Balance included the following: Improving creativity Enhancing communication Encouraging innovation Better customer service Improved focus Mental health Success Improved productivity Preventing disability and disease Better leadership Creating a positive business environment
The forum was informative, and participants left rejuvenated and ready to implement some of the strategies.
