Father’s Day Picnic (6/17) was a blast for the 350+ members. The weather was good for some time and it poured heavily for certain period of time. The food was awesome. The Picnic committee did a wonderful job of coordinating games for seniors, youngsters, youth and kids under the leadership of Jignesh Madhani. We appreciate the help of Ajay Dagli, Pritish Shah and Manishbhai Mehta in coordinating and providing guided tours to the visitors. We shall be having the 4 th puja of the year - Saterbhedi Puja on July 29th. Have you signed up for JSGD Panch Tirthi Yatra (8/17-8/19) to Boston – New York area yet? BOT Corner

14th Anniversary: JSGD successfully celebrated our 14th Anniversary from of 22nd June thru 24th June. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Megh Nandu for doing a fantastic job of conducting the major events. We collected over $40,000 during these 3 days. Many volunteers from our society helped out to make this a successful event and we thank each of them. JAINA 2013 Convention: This time, the JAINA convention is in our town – yes, Detroit is hosting the upcoming 2013 JAINA Convention! Vastupalbhai Shah is leading the efforts for this convention. We would like to encourage every family to have at least one member be part of the JAINA team. Temple Beautification: In order to spruce up the Temple exterior appearance including the enhancements to the entrance; BOT has been accepting various suggestions from the members. Implementation would be most appropriate prior to the 2013 JAINA convention, next year. One of the suggestions for example was to put a set of marble elephants at the entrance as a welcoming sign. In the meantime it is deemed prudent to perform a complete inspection of the temple to identify any exterior structural repairs that may need our attention. We recognize that our temple was built in 1996 and has not gone through any major upgrades other than a few emergency fixes. Some of the materials used for the parapet walls and ‘chajja’ is showing deterioration and perhaps have reached its useful life? A stronger replacement material that is aesthetically pleasing such as granite can be considered. Any final decision will be taken only after doing cost-to-requirement analysis. If you have any ideas or input, please feel free to pass it on to any of the BOT members. Thank you. Parking Lot: Work on our new parking lot structure has been completed and we are waiting for blessings from City, which should get done shortly. Patt Donors List: As promised at the time of Patt installation, the donor list will be put near the patts. The initial work on it has started and the names will be displayed near the patts in next few weeks. Charitable Gift of Life Insurance: Life Insurance can be a convenient way to make a substantial gift to JSGD for a relatively modest annual cost. While there are many different types of life insurance, the principle of giving remains the same - a relatively small gift in the present will ultimately provide a much larger gift in the future. Plus your donations could be tax deductible. If you are interested in this program or need more details, please contact any EC or BOT member. If you are a society member in good standing for at least 3 years and are a Life Insurance agent, please send us your name and contact information so that we can provide it to the interested members. Members Financial Statements: Please look through your recent statement from the Society. We request you to pay any outstanding balance in a timely manner. Please call Nikhil Kothari (BOT) or Vijay B Shah (EC) if you have any questions about your statement.

Quote for the month: "Knowledge without action (conduct) is of no consequence and action (conduct) without knowledge is of no consequence. A lame man can see the fire (has knowledge) but he cannot escape from it (thus his knowledge is ineffective.) On the other hand, a blind man (not knowing in which direction he is running) tries to run away from the fire (takes action) but (without knowledge) he may not be able to escape the fire.""
