JAGUAR XJR-10 #589

• JaguarSport TWR Works IMSA prototype• 6 Podiums Finishes including to 2 x P1• Driven by Davy Jones, Martin Brundle, Jans Lammers, Raul Boesel & Price

Cobb• Received complete restoration with nothing overlooked• JV6 Twin Turbo - totally rebuilt with 0 hours on drivetrain

During 1989, using the light compact JV-6 Twin Turbo engine as a new power source, legendary race car designer Tony Southgate set about designing a new pure-bred chassis for the prototype that TWR would campaign for Jaguar in the 3.0L American IMSA series.

With additional cooling and advanced aerodynamics for the tighter circuits in the States, the new package aided development of higher downforces needed in comparison to the requirements of the European LeMans series circuits.

Being the 3rd XJR-10 chassis built, #589 made its debut at the very end of 1989, featuring in the one race in October ’89 at Del Mar, driven by Price Cobb, Placing the car 4th in qualifying and finishing in 7th, it was a promising debut.

During the 1990 season, the two XJR-10’s ran with Castrol sponsorship livery and engaged in a highly competitive field with some excellent results. During the year the bodywork was adapted to “widebody” improving the handling and assisting #589 to pick up 1st, 2nd and 3rd places throughout the season.

Going into 1991, in the new BUD LIGHT sponsor colours, the improved XJR-10’s were well suited to the shorter sprint races at the start of the season. Notably Davy Jones driving #589, now Numbered No.2, started the new year with great success in March at Round2 in West Palm Beach. Placing the car 2nd on the grid, Jones went to P1 on the first lap and continued on to a resounding win. It was noted at the time as a great achievement within the class and the driver received high praise.#589 went on to compete in a further 3 complete races during 1991 including another podium with Raul Boesel at Road Atlanta, shown in the period photographs as car Number3, before being superseded by the more up to date XJR-16’s. XJR-10 #589 finished its last race in the May of 1991 and subsequently was not used again competitively.Coming into the current ownership, a worldwide renowned Jaguar XJR prototype expert and racer, the decision was taken to restore #589 to like new condition and as it competed in it’s Palm Beach win in Number2 livery, with no expense spared on any part of the rebuild.

and his team

The owner and his team have unrivalled knowledge of Jaguar Prototypes, especially the 3.0ltr JV-6 engine, which on #589 has been completely stripped down to have all the internals renewed with fresh components used during the rebuild before being tested. The gearbox and drivetrain have been treated to similar renewal.

The completion of the rebuild has taken 1000’s of man hours to complete, with the entire car being throughly dismantled and each item being inspected, renewed or restored before being refitted with new bolts throughout the complete rebuild.

The tanks have been replaced with new items and all suspension components have been fully crack tested to meet with current competition compliance. The brake discs have all been replaced with the use of relevant AP 6pot front callipers now fitted to the car.

#589 has full life on the drivetrain and comes supplied with spare front and rear clams.

Being an immensely important part of TWR and Jaguar Sports racing heritage, #589 is now complete and ready to be raced with entry to Historic GroupC agreed.
