YAGUARA YES President’s Article by Janet Martin—Jan-Feb 2019

It is my honor to lead SAJC in 2019 as the new Club President! A very BIG thank you goes

out to Brian Blackwell for his dedication and leadership to the club the past 3 years straight as our President. In the last Newsletter Brian closed with the following: “I have been your club President six of the last ten years, including the last three straight. I am beginning to feel that I am leading us into an undesirable level of monotony, and want to encourage other members to revitalize our club in 2019. I feel we tend to do the same things every year, be-cause we did them all the last year and years before. It is almost like we need to ‘do the vi-sion thing’, start with a blank sheet, decide what we want to be, keep what we want, and decide what we want to replace with something better.”

Hence, with those words - I challenge SAJC do just that and define a Vision for 2019! I am wide open to ideas and recommendations for the club. So let’s get creative and have a great year! With that in mind, I have named this article Yaguara Yes. What is a Yaguara? It is our namesake; it is the Tupian word for Jaguar. Tupian is an Amazonian language. Yaguara means beast of prey. To me that translates to beauty and power which is so appropriate for all Jaguar cars!

So who is your new president? I have been a member of SAJC for about 6 years. I drive a 1990 XJS V12 Converti-ble that I found in Marietta, GA. I am the 3rd owner of the car and have all the original paperwork. I am a Texan by birth and heritage but grew up in Geor-gia. My great grandfather, COL John W. Burgess, was a cattleman and helped start the Ft Worth Stockyards. I have lived back in Texas for the past 9 and a half years. I work Civil Service for the Air Force at Randolph AFB. I live up at Canyon Lake and love good red wine, travel, reading, kayaking, hiking, camping, and spending time with family and good friends. I support local animal rescue efforts and have 2 dogs – Mr. Wilson and his new BFF Rocky and have 6 cats.

Our first big event of the year is the Luckenbach Rallye on Saturday, 26 January. So get those Yaguars purring and let the big cats show up in force to dominate and WIN the Rallye.

For the newer SAJC members, early on before we were members of the JCNA, the San

Antonio Jaguar Club, Inc. was known as the Jaguar V12 Club...really! This Blast from the

Past article is dedicated to Bill Davis who started the Luckenbach Rallye. It took place in

1989 and it was a big success! The day was perfect. The sky could not be better for a

scenic drive to tour to enjoy wildlife along the route.

Special thanks went to Motor Imports, Inc. (now Barrett Jaguar). Tom Johnson hosted

the drivers meeting and presented door prizes. Austin members were invited and the

first couple to meet was Dean & Doris Davis, who still attends our SAJC events. The win-

ners were selected by points, then time and mileage.

There were 11 participants and 10 were from our Club...we would like to see that much

participation from our Club in our upcoming 30th Luckenbach Rallye Anniversary. Thank

you, Bill Davis & Brian Blackwell for your dedication to the SAJC in creating new routes to

Luckenbach every year!!

PS That was the day of my first speeding ticket in

Fredericksburg, TX with friend, Amy as my Naviga-

tor. We had so much fun that we lost track of

time. I paid for the ticket, however, a month or

two later, I got a refund in the mail...crazy times!!

Tech Session on November 17, 2018, about 30 of us went to The Vault for a show and tell. When

Brian Blackwell set this up in August we did not know that the San Antonio Auto Show

would be going on downtown, so The Vault was spead thinly. Looking at the beautiful

and rare cars they store for theirs and others, would wound up being the biggest

attraction. Thanks to The Vault for hosting us. Below are some of the photos taken at

the event:
