Chattanooga right-handed relief pitcher Omar Bencomo (8-6) earned the win by working five scoreless innings from the third to the seventh, allowing five hits with no walks and four strikeouts against his former club. Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Dustin Beggs (1-1) took the loss, going six innings where he allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Cody Stashak got the final two outs for Lookouts to earn his fourth save of the year. For the third straight game, Andy Wilkins homered for Chattanooga, and his solo blast to right field started the scoring for the Lookouts in the bottom of the second. Chattanooga added a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI double by Jimmy Kerrigan to put the lead at 2-0. The Lookouts added two more runs in the seventh off Jacksonville left-handed relief pitcher Jeff Kinley. First Brent Rooker hit an RBI double to put the lead at 3-0, then during the at-bat of Wilkins, a Kinley wild pitch scored Rooker from third to put the lead at 4-0. After being held scoreless for the first eight innings, Jacksonville started the ninth with a pair of doubles, as Bryson Brigman got the Shrimp on the board with an RBI double to make it 4-1, which would be the final. Anfernee Seymour extended his season-best hitting streak with Jacksonville to five games, going 2-for-3 and he and Brigman were the only Shrimp batters with a multi-hit game. The Shrimp are 19-25 in one-run games this season, including an 8-10 mark in the second half of the season. Lookout Norwood: John Norwood has enjoyed facing the Chattanooga Lookouts in 2018. This season in 11 games, Norwood is hitting .350 (14-for-40) against Chattanooga with four home runs and seven RBI. He had a multi-homer game against the Lookouts on July 11 at the Baseball Grounds, then went 25 games without a home run before he homered off the same reliever Tyler Jay on Saturday night against the Lookouts. Suddenly Seymour: Anfernee Seymour carries a season-best five-game hitting streak into tonight’s game. Over his streak, Seymour is hitting .438 (7-16) with a home run and three runs batted in. Seymour at the plate is 6-for-12 at the plate against the Lookouts, and homered against Chattanooga on Friday night in the opening game of the series. TONIGHT’S JUMBO SHRIMP STARTING PITCHER 9 – CODY POTEET, RHP 2-11, 5.42 ERA, 20 games and 19 starts 2018 w/JAX: 2-11, 5.42 ERA (64 ER/106.1 IP) in 20 G and 19 GS. 2018 vs. CHA: 0-0, 3.60 ERA (2 ER/5.0 IP) in 1 G and 1 GS. 2018 OVERALL: 3-14, 5.07 ERA (74 ER/131.1 IP) in 24 G and 23 GS. LAST START: Poteet had a no decision in a sharp start on Thursday August 23 against the Birmingham Barons at the Baseball Grounds. He worked a season-long eight innings where he allowed only one run on two hits (a solo homer by Jameson Fisher was the lone run) with no walks and a career-high 12 strikeouts. He left with the game tied 1-1, only to see the Barons score three runs off Jeff Kinley in the ninth to win 4-1. WAHOOS LOSS: Poteet suffered a loss in his start on Saturday August 18 against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Poteet worked seven innings where he allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts as Jacksonville lost 5-2. 2018 IN REVIEW: Poteet started the season with Jacksonville as the Opening Day starter, before going 2-9 with a 5.95 ERA in his 15 starts. He was transferred to High-A Jupiter on July 4. Poteet made four starts with the Hammerheads, going 1-3 with a 3.60 ERA. 2018 WITH JUPITER: Poteet went 1-3 with a 3.60 ERA in four starts with High-A Jupiter during the month of July. After losing his first two starts to Daytona and Tampa, he earned a dominant win on July 17 against Bradenton. He worked seven scoreless innings where he allowed just one hit and walked just one batter while striking out seven hitters in a 4-3 Jupiter victory. He also went seven innings in his last start with Jupiter on Wednesday July 25 where he allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in a slim 2-1 loss to Fort Myers.
