A native of Oldham County, Dennie was born March 12, 1948. He grad- uated from Oldham County High School in 1966. He then attended Eastern Kentucky Univer- sity receiving a bachelor's in education before receiving his Masters and Rank I from the University of Louisville. He served in the United States Army in the 100th Division Reserve Unit. He taught for 31 years in the Oldham Coun- ty school system, at Oldham County Junior High and Oldham County Middle School. He was the head football coach at OCMS and head golf coach at OCHS. Dennie was a loving husband and devoted father. He is remembered as a person of high character and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved fishing, golf, and the friends with whom he shared the game. He was a member of the Oldham County Country Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Wil- liam H. Hargrove. He falsified his birth records so he could serve his country at a tender age, returning to graduate from high school only after completion of the war. He was a civil servant at the Fed- eral Aviation Administration and was a faithful servant to the Lord and his church community, most recently Highview Baptist Church. He loved being with his family, had a soft spot for animals, and took pride in a manicured lawn and an abundant garden. He loved collecting and listening to music of many genres and was a fan of collegiate bas- ketball. He was admired for his commitment to service work, his strong work ethic and his dry sense of humor. Most recently, he was the Wii bowling champion of Atria Stoney Brook. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Bernice Lamar; and siblings, Joseph Lamar and Gertrude Lamar.
